Access denied when i try to remote access!
Hello We've used MEDC for 2 months and everything have worked fine, we've been able to remotely install all the agents and patches to our 120 computers (both desktops and laptops). But last week the company bought 2 new laptops (HP ProBook 6450b) and they've been nothing but trouble. We can't install the agent remotely, so we installed it manually, but we can't remote controll it, we get a access denied message and we have tried everything but with no luck. The laptops runs windows 7 prof (32bit)
Non-domain without credentials with agent
In our main branch, we have computers on the domain that have the agent installed. Additionally, there are a number of personal laptops that are brought in that connect to our public wireless connection and occassionally VPN into the network for file sharing/etc. For these laptops, we do not presently have local admin credentials. I have set up a remote office to manage these machines and intend to manually install the agent to communicate back to the DC server. On a test machine, I got this
Prohibited Software Windows 7 Notification
Build 70135 Prior to this build, I never saw the pop-up notification for installed prohibited software that had been installed for over a month. I installed the hotfix, set up and installed [someSoftware] (not the prohibited software) package to [win7comp], rebotted [win7comp], and verified that software was successfully installed. I then set up to uninstall [someSoftware] from [win7comp], rebooted [win7comp], and verifired that uninstallation was successful. After this I finally saw the popup
Desktop Central Agent and Active Directory
I have over 1000 computers in my AD structure. I did my best to add all computers in Active Directory except my servers and thin clients but feel I may have missed some but do not have enough licenses to add them all back in and let desktop central search for the missing ones. How can I query Active Diretory/Desktop Central to let me know which computers have DC7 Agent installed and Which ones do not have it installed so I can add the ones that are missing with the exception of the ones that are

Deploying msu packages to select OSes
Hi. We are having some troubles with certain printers in one of our locations. Turns out this is a bug in windows 7 64bit editions only. Microsoft has provided a hot fix release that comes in the form of a downloadable .msu package. We need to deploy this package to all 64bit windows 7 computers, but not standard 32bit windows 7 or xp installs. How would be accomplish this? spesifically, here's the issue described by microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982728 and here's the fix: http://thehotfixshare.net/board/index.php?autocom=downloads&showfile=12240
Network Drives
Is there anyway to determine what drives a user already has mapped on their system using Desktop Central? I am looking to give access to users for network drives that another user has, however, I have to track down the user and have them send me a screen shot of all of their drives right now. It would be much easier if I was able to go into the inventory and view their computer to see the drives and the drive letters where each is mapped to. Please let me know if this is possible or an alternate
Remote Agent Installation on Windows 7 Home Premium
The problem is similar to one mention on forum with Windows Vista Home Premium. Whatever I am doing I always get the Access Denied error. Credentials are fine, DCOM is enabled. Such problem does not exist with Windows 7 Prof..

Manually approve patches
Forgive me for asking, but this was not obvious to me. How can I manually approve patches? E.g. I don't want to exclude, but I want to have to approve every patch before they are deployed
is distribution server a different product?
Hi. a desktop central server can manage other servers in different locations. As far as I understand, these are called distribution servers. Is a distribution server just another desktop central server, or does distribution server come in a separate installation package?
Stopping a running process
We are currently evaluating the Desktop Central product to do software installs/uninstalls. I am trying to perform a remote uninstall of Blackberry Desktop Manager, but am running into an issue where it fails if the program is running. Since this is a program that is always running on the desktop, this creates an issue. To resolve this, I tried using PSKILL.exe from Microsoft and scripting it to kill that process, however I cannot make it run from the network share. I have also tried scripting
Problem: No softwaredistribution in Remote Office using Distribution-Server.
I set up an DesktopCentral-Server add 2 PC in local Office and then create an Remote Office and add also 2 PC. The communication Server-DS-Server looks good. Some Files are replecatet to /replication/client-data/ on the DS-Server, and an Inventory scan on the Remote Offece PC works. But I'm not able to distribute Software to the remote-office PC's. I ceate a test Configuration an deploy it to all PC's. The local Office PC are installed, the Remote Office is "Yet to Apply". I was waiting, made some

User Notification Email Configuration Non-AD
Build No : 70127 Configure Prohibited Software > Configure Alerts I enable to send a warning mail to the desktop user and, during testing, am trying to use "Use email id configured manually". Per the help pop-up, I go to Admin > Feed Custom Data for Computers to set up the custom email address. I open the "Add / Modify Computer Details" pop-up for [someComputer]. I fill out the data with test data and a valid email address in "Owner Email ID", but after saving, the "Owner Email" field remains "--"
70132 Patch - Issue
Hi, I installed the new patch, and was eager to try out the new feature "Automate Software Deployment using Pre-Defined Templates." However, when it downloaded the files, it did not place them in my selected Network Share (see attached image). My share is configured using the option "Create a Network Share."
DS Status - Yet to Install - Even After Installing the Distribution Server in Remote Office
DS Status in Remote office is listed as "Yet to Install" I have installed the agent for Remote Office Distribution Server without any errors. WAN Agents on Remote location was installed successfully as well. Any clues on why this would happen?
Problem using DistributionServer
I'm testing Desktop Central. The Local Office works fine, reports, softwaredistribution and so on are OK. Now I installed an DS to distribute software in the other locations. A lot of data syncronices to the DS (/replication\client-data\patch-scan-data an some other), an Inventory scan works fine for Local an Remote Office Computers, so the communication Server <--> DS works. But I'am not able to distribute software. I created a testjob with 4 Computers, 2 in the Local office, 2 in the WAN. The
New Hardware Detection/Notification
Build No : 70132 I configure DC email alert for: When any new hardware is detected on the network. To test, I attach a USB drive to a managed client, copy a file, remove drive, do a scan, and no email notification is sent. I attach a USB drive to the same managed client, do a scan, and email notification is sent. Is this functionality limited to what ~new hardware is attached at the time of scan, or can/does it read from the client's system event log? If limited to time of scan, how often can scheduled
Agent Tray Icon Selective Install
Build No : 70132 The admin wants DC to be as transparent to the user community as possible, but would like to take advantage of the help desk/ticket capability offered via the tray icon on a few select machines. Is this showing/hiding of the Agent Tray Icon all or nothing? Am I missing where this capability exists in DC? I am thinking perhaps manually changing a setting in one of the XML files on the client in <install directory>\DesktopCentral_agent\data\, adding a task to system startup, making
Prohibited Software User Notification
Build No : 70127 I add [sampleApp] to the prohibited software list. (*note- [sampleApp] is not set up in the Software Package Repository.) [sampleApp] is .exe based. [sampleApp] is installed on [someComputer]. I get an email that [sampleApp], a prohibited app, has been installed on [someComputer]. Reports show that [sampleApp] has been installed on [someComputer]. I have configured the auto-uninstall policy and enabled/set the user notification message. Per the dc-admin-guide, I see that auto-installation

Managing both On-Domain and Off-Domain PCs with DC?
Our office uses mostly On-Domain PCs, but has a handful of Off-Domain "Guest" PCs that we would like to manage using DC as well. The agent is installed, and they do report back in, but it is difficult to initiate actions with them proactively (such as scanning, rebooting, etc.) because the credentials used for the On-Domain PCs do not work with the Off-Domain ones. Is there a way to manage the credentials for the Off-Domain PCs separately, so that they can be fully functional with DC? Thank you!
Running an .exe-based installer on the logged in users desktop
Hi. I am now deploying an exe-based driverpack to a computer managed by desktop central. It seems to work allright. However, as the driverpack installation is interactive (it shows a progress bar), the following pops up: After clicking "vis meldingen" ("show message") , a new seperate desktop with only that progress bar (no other windows) etc shows up. Can I make the progress bar show on the current logged in users desktop? The installer contains a full driverpack created by the program driver genious

"patches" directory
Hi, i'm trying the Desktop Central software in a test enviroment. I've deployed remotly the agent on a Windows7 and on a WinXp machines, after i created an "install patches" jobs, no patches were deployed in the clients, after inspecting the logs i discovered that the agent was trying to download the patches in a "patches" directory, under the agent installation tree, that was not present. I then manually created the directory, rebooted both clients and the patches started to be deployed. I plan
Can not delete custom report
I created a custom report in Desktop Central but now when I go to delete it via the red x it will not work and displays "error on page" . Does anyone have any suggestions on how to delete the reports? I am using IE 8 in compatibility view. Thanks!
Managing 40 different sites / 3500 users
So In our company, we have about 40 geographically separate locations, with a total of about 3500 users and about as many computers. Setting up a distribution server for each of those locations would be quite tiresome and not possible on many of those locations. Even having to specify the computernames in a text file before deploying the agent (to get them to use a distribution server instead of the primary desktop central server) would take enourmous amounts of time We plan to use the primary desktop
Prohibited Software client/server disagree
Build No : 70127 I install [sampleApp] on client. At server, I add [sampleApp] to prohibited list. I reboot the client. I rescan and run a prohibited software report, which finds [sampleApp] on client. On client from DC tray icon, I run "View Prohibited Software Details". I get "No Prohibited software detected in your machine." I verify that [sampleApp] is still installed on client. I have manually uninstalled [sampleApp] (exe software not defined in DC Software Repository), rebooted, and reinstalled,
