Error while installing manage engine desktop central 8
Hi.. I am trying to install manage engine desktop central 8 on my work PC. But after accepting the license agreement and continuing with the default port it gives me an error as follows, Component : sourceComponent file group : sourceFiles file: cannot create a file when that file already exists this error comes when the setup is at 2% and the path shown is c:\...\setup.inx after which the setup stops. any solution ???

Non domain clients
Hi there We run desktop central on our network. We have undertaken a major network project which has left us with 250 client machines without domain access althought they can connect to the network using wifi. Our question is, how can we manage these clients now that they are not part of the domain but are part of the network? Does this make sense? Many thanks Dale
User logon reports to include logon from unlocking screen
I am looking for the option to have a report of current user logins and a report of logon history from unlocking screens. The current reports only have logins from a user logging into a machine from restart or logoff and most users these days only lock their screens or wait for the screensaver to lock their screens so you do not get an accurate report of when someone used the terminals. This would be useful to have as an option or as another report as we like to track who is using the systems afterhours
What is the best way to synch MEDC with AD
Here is the issue. Manage Engine appears to have old computer objects, while our Active Directory is up to date. How can we synch the two so old objects disappear and new objects are added? Or is this a manual process?
Custom Software Groups

Installing DC clients over multiple Samba Domains
Hi, I'm managing about 16 remote sites each with around 10 - 30 client PC's on each. The domain controller is linux based and I don't have any windows servers available to host a Distribution server, so I'm using the 'Direct Communication' method.. Which is fine. Patch Status Mis Reporting
Hi we're running DC Build 80029 and finding that it is reporting all local and remote clients as healthy, which would be fine if it were the case!!. We run ESET Anti Virus which gives an indication of endpoint security status by changing the system tray icon colour progressively between 'green' for maximum protection, and 'red' for danger. Searching for systems by Service Tag
Hi all, Now a days more and more computer manufacture supply their machines with an service tag number. Usually this is an unique number which makes it easier for us system administrators to find the right system when it comes to warranty’s and stuff. Now that we use Desktop Central I thought that this was an very easy way to search for your machines in DC8. But I’m afraid to say that I’m unable to find any system by Service Tag. Flash Player not list in the installed applications at the system details
Hi, I installed Flash Player 11.3.300.265 ActiveX as a msi-Datei on the clients successfull. In the Patchmanagement on the "system details" under "application" is the Flash player not list under the "Non Microsoft Products". The older Flash version are always listed. So I think Desktop Central don't recognizes flash. Updating patch status or a reboot from the client don't help. Is this problem known? Have other this probelm? Thanks for help. RH

Is support for MacOSx on the road-map for Desktop Central? I know I would purchase a bunch more licenses if that were available.
Domain and computer names?
Running Desktop Central Software Inventory Tool in Windows 7 on a stand-alone PC. MS asks me to click on Start and then right-click on Computer to get the domain and computer names. I don't have Computer to right click on. Does this software run in Windows 7 and on a stand-alone PC, or is there a way of bypassing these prompts?
Desktop Central - Hotfix 80029
I recently tried to apply hotfix 80029 to build 80027 and while in the process of doing so had the updater tool freeze which I then killed the process to try to apply the fix again. Before doing so I rebooted the server... now I no longer can get to the web gui even though the Manage Engine Desktop central services are running. How can I correct this issue as im very much new to desktop central? Thanks for the help in advance
desktop central agent mac osx
hi i just upgraded to 80029 and deployed a mac agent to one of my macs i have 2 question 1) we have integrated our macs with our AD (so mac show up as a computer in the active directory structure) when i created the agent i selected it was part of our domain rather than the macosgroup workgroup. we use www.centrify.com solution to achieve this is this correct or should i always select macosgroup workgroup for macs even though they are integrated with our active directory domain (windows 2008 r2)
IP, MAC or Broadcast entry not valid when performing Wake On LAN
I am getting this message on all computers when I try to use wake on LAN. I am demo-ing the product. When I first installed I tested a couple machines and it was working fine. Now nothing is working. I verified the MAC addresses are correct. There are very few conversation on the subject. My version is 80026.

2nd domain not authenticating in Desktop Central
Have have 2 domains. We have entered correct credentials for each domain. When we try and deploy the DC client to the 2nd domain we recieve 100% failure with an error message "unknown username or password." We can login to a machine with the credentials so we know it is correct. Any idea's? Cheers.

Why IP ?
Im managing a company using Desktop Central and was wondering if there will be any support using just a hostname in the future and port number rather than IP also because i manage from a dynamic IP which could change so supporting a hostname only option to talk client to server would be extremely beneficial.
No Remote Screen Displays in Desktop Central Remote Tool
I am using Desktop Central build no:80029. I have updated my agents. PROBLEM: When I am using the Remote Control tool, I never see any client desktop image appearing. Everything seems to work properly. Even no error messages. This is what I experience when opening Desktop Central in a IE browser. 1) From the Tools tab I select Remote Control 2) I select the client I want to connect to and click on Connect. 3) I see the Reason to Connect Window indicating the client I selected to connect
Licence Management
I've started to use the Licence Management function of Desktop Central today but finding it very cumbersome to use. One issue I've come across is that the software is specific to build versions. For example I'm trying to enter in the correct number of licences for Microsoft Project Professional 2002 but Desktop Central has two items listed for Microsoft Project Professional 2002 - one build 10.0.2915.0 and one build 10.0.8326.0 so i dont know which licence applies to which without manually grouping
Permission Management of local groups
When I try to create a Permissions Management configuration, how so I select local computer security groups? When I click the "Select Group" button it pops up a window where I can search for the security group I want. However, all it shows me are Domain groups. I need to add permissions for the LOCAL administrator group to a folder. Any ideas? Patch ID 10428 Mis-Reporting
We still have issues over 60 machines with Patch ID 10428 The initial problem was that the patch was always showing that it needed to be installed, even after being installed. A call was logged on Fri 29th June and on Monday 02 July we were asked to decline the patch while a fix was prepared. On Tue 03 July we got an email to say that the problem was fixed and requesting we update the patch DB and rescan the machines. rough estimate of patch repository and database size?
Hello. I'm getting ready to install DC8 into production and was wondering what the typical size of the patch repository is after about six months to a year. My WSUS repository has been at around 45 gigs for a long time. I realize that I can delete older patches. Also, how about the database size? We will have about 200 devices to support. Migrating from Java 6 to Java 7
We have the majority of our users on Java 6 Update 3x. However we want to move users to Java 7 (latest Update 5). What is the way to do this? I can't seem to find one. It doesn't appear that machines will automatically update to Java 7, nor does there seem to be a way to "remove" and "replace" the different versions of Java. Any suggestion on how to handle this? Custo script failes to run.
I have a new question about running custom scripts. I create a configuration for a computer custom script. However when I deploy it they all fail stating, "failed to run the script: the system cannot find the path specified" I have attempted to resolve this in several ways. Created a new share with permissions for "everyone" for read/write Moved script to Netlogon share Uploaded script to DC repository. Nothing seems to help. Any ideas? Thanks. Patch ID 11702 Always reporting that it needs to be installed.
I am currently running the latest Desktop central update, 80025 On problably 1/2 of our 90 PCs managed, it shows that there is the critical update : ID: 11702 Bulletin ID: MS12-025 MS .NET 1.1 SP1 I have ran the agent and scanned the PCs again and shows the update. I select those PCs, and have it push the update out to them. It reports that it has been installed. By checking on the machine itself, shows that that update is installed. Re-scan the PC's. It still shows that it needs to be updated,
