I've started to use the Licence Management function of Desktop Central today but finding it very cumbersome to use.
One issue I've come across is that the software is specific to build versions. For example I'm trying to enter in the correct number of licences for Microsoft Project Professional 2002 but Desktop Central has two items listed for Microsoft Project Professional 2002 - one build 10.0.2915.0 and one build 10.0.8326.0 so i dont know which licence applies to which without manually grouping both applications. This wouldnt be a problem for the odd installation but its the same for almost every package and i have over 2000 applications listed. Could the software not be grouped simply under the Microsoft Project Professional 2002 heading?
Secondly as mentioned my software inventory shows over 2100 separate packages. Many of these are non-commercial which are marked as such but I cant see any easy way of marking all as yet unlicensed commercial software? Software only appears on the Manage Licence sheet when I've opened that application and added one of more licences to it. All the software that i havent yet added a licence to in Desktop Central doesnt show up at all? It would be much better if any application that was marked as commercial automatically got 0 licences assigned until the administrator assigns more. That way it would be much easier to see at a glance what is outstanding?
