Inheriting Manage Engine
Manage Engine has been running in our environment for a few years. I am tasked with taking it over with the main use being for patch management. Do you recommend that we "Reset" everything from scratch and start over? New to this board, appreciate your help
Why IP ?
Im managing a company using Desktop Central and was wondering if there will be any support using just a hostname in the future and port number rather than IP also because i manage from a dynamic IP which could change so supporting a hostname only option to talk client to server would be extremely beneficial.
No Remote Screen Displays in Desktop Central Remote Tool
I am using Desktop Central build no:80029. I have updated my agents. PROBLEM: When I am using the Remote Control tool, I never see any client desktop image appearing. Everything seems to work properly. Even no error messages. This is what I experience when opening Desktop Central in a IE browser. 1) From the Tools tab I select Remote Control 2) I select the client I want to connect to and click on Connect. 3) I see the Reason to Connect Window indicating the client I selected to connect
Licence Management
I've started to use the Licence Management function of Desktop Central today but finding it very cumbersome to use. One issue I've come across is that the software is specific to build versions. For example I'm trying to enter in the correct number of licences for Microsoft Project Professional 2002 but Desktop Central has two items listed for Microsoft Project Professional 2002 - one build 10.0.2915.0 and one build 10.0.8326.0 so i dont know which licence applies to which without manually grouping
Permission Management of local groups
When I try to create a Permissions Management configuration, how so I select local computer security groups? When I click the "Select Group" button it pops up a window where I can search for the security group I want. However, all it shows me are Domain groups. I need to add permissions for the LOCAL administrator group to a folder. Any ideas? Patch ID 10428 Mis-Reporting
We still have issues over 60 machines with Patch ID 10428 The initial problem was that the patch was always showing that it needed to be installed, even after being installed. A call was logged on Fri 29th June and on Monday 02 July we were asked to decline the patch while a fix was prepared. On Tue 03 July we got an email to say that the problem was fixed and requesting we update the patch DB and rescan the machines. rough estimate of patch repository and database size?
Hello. I'm getting ready to install DC8 into production and was wondering what the typical size of the patch repository is after about six months to a year. My WSUS repository has been at around 45 gigs for a long time. I realize that I can delete older patches. Also, how about the database size? We will have about 200 devices to support. Migrating from Java 6 to Java 7
We have the majority of our users on Java 6 Update 3x. However we want to move users to Java 7 (latest Update 5). What is the way to do this? I can't seem to find one. It doesn't appear that machines will automatically update to Java 7, nor does there seem to be a way to "remove" and "replace" the different versions of Java. Any suggestion on how to handle this? Custo script failes to run.
I have a new question about running custom scripts. I create a configuration for a computer custom script. However when I deploy it they all fail stating, "failed to run the script: the system cannot find the path specified" I have attempted to resolve this in several ways. Created a new share with permissions for "everyone" for read/write Moved script to Netlogon share Uploaded script to DC repository. Nothing seems to help. Any ideas? Thanks. Remotyl Uninstall / Silent Uninstall Install
Hi, I have to remove some applicaton remotyl.. But i can not found any parameters for some applicatons like live messenger, Desktop Central already have some templates.. Iam gonna to use Live Messenger for xp, if i want to install its easy "wlsetup-all.exe /silent /nolaunch" How can i set for uninstall Live Messenger or somethink ? Do you have any parameters for global applicatons like Msn, Yahoo etc.. Could you help me please?
Manual mode download of Java Update

Recentrly Oracle has introduced License Agreement acceptance while downloading the product. This is causing the issue with Java downloads. Desktop Central team is working on this to handle it. Patch ID 11702 Always reporting that it needs to be installed.
I am currently running the latest Desktop central update, 80025 On problably 1/2 of our 90 PCs managed, it shows that there is the critical update : ID: 11702 Bulletin ID: MS12-025 MS .NET 1.1 SP1 I have ran the agent and scanned the PCs again and shows the update. I select those PCs, and have it push the update out to them. It reports that it has been installed. By checking on the machine itself, shows that that update is installed. Re-scan the PC's. It still shows that it needs to be updated,
Problem Exporting Reports
I have created report which runs and displays onscreen with no problem. When i try to export the data to an Excel spreadsheet though nothing happens. Web session with Saranraj on 26 Jun confirmed the issue and confirmed the same result in his test lab. Is there any update on this one? Thanks!
Custom Script works for some machines and not others. Get Error Message : Incorrect function
I have created a batch file that I push out that runs a command and ports the results and creates a text file located on a network share. I'm unable to see why it work on some and not the rest. Can any one help? I've created several custom reports but unable to rename them once saved. I've updated to the latest 80028 build this morning but still no joy?
Remote Control Screen Recording
Hey there, Just been looking at the recording feature and i'm wondering where the default storage location is for any recordings to be stored. I realise the recordings can be accessed from the History tab, where there's an option to "Download", but where is the actual location the files are being placed before and after viewing? Connect to PC button is missing
Hi, I have updated to build 80025, everything seems to work ok, but most of machines that have been updated to the 8.00.22.w agent do not have the connect to pc button on the screen. I have checked this both through the inventory section, and through the reports section. I have tried re-installing the agent but this does not appear to make a difference. I am using IE 9, it also happens in Firefox. Can you shed any light on this. Thanks. Geoff.
Patch management in windows 7 home premium?
Is there any particular reason desktop central doesn't do patch management on the home edition of windows? Is it simply that it is unable to determine the patches that need to be installed or is it something else, as for the most part I would have thought the patching proccess is the same as the other editions of windows 7
Move Update Cache
When I deployed DC to a remote server, I mistakenly used the server's C drive when I should have used a much larger "D" drive space. "C" is running out of space - Is there a way to move the update cache without having to reinstall the agents on the clients?
lync security update, manual install as software package
hi as ms lync is currently not supported in terms of desktop central patch management i wanted to deploy the lync security update as a software package install i have downloaded the 32 and 64 bit lync kb 2693282 patches and put them in my repository i cannot add these 2 packages because it is a .msp file and not a .msi or MSIEXEC/EXE/ISS/Command best regards
Can I install the agent in a computer with empty password?
I'm tryint to install this product in a long network, but the computers are in a workgroup with "empty" passwork, and Desktop Central tell me "Password cannot be empty" It's possible install without password?
wmiprvse high cpu
Hello, I've installed the desktop central agent on a windows 7 64bit hp laptop. The problem is that the wmiprvse takes about 25-30 % cpu usage. Svchost takes also 30% cpu, so pc is running slowly then. When I uninstall the agents, svchost and wmiprvse have no cpu usage. Any ideas? I'm running the latest builds of desktop central. Thx

I have been using DC8 and I find that it doesn't have many Microsoft Office patches listed to be installed. This is across Office 2010 & Office 2010 subscription (Office 365). Is there a section in the portal that I need to modify to enable the scanning & patching of Office products?

Good Day All, This morning I am testing patch deployment on two different machines. One inside and one outside of my network. Each time, I get an error message; Draft - Download Failed Read KB Now, I checked and I don't believe I am trying to download any java updates and the server has direct connectivity to the internet. WAN Agent/Direct Connection
Hello all, I have Desktop Central and Service Desk on a single server, that has direct access to the WAN. I'd love to be able to manage my machines on the WAN with the connect option for remote control. Right now, it appears I can manage items is install the LAN client on. When I try to control a machine outside the network, it act like its going to connect. Then goes to a waiting for screen. When I try connecting to a machine on the network here (laptop) with the WAN agent, I get the same behavior.
desktop central not deploying anymore software
hello, from this morning all the packages we generate are in status ready to apply but nothing is going to be applied. we are at the same time deploying patches and these are going to be deployed. instead the software deployment is completely not responsive also refreshing the agent. Restarted main desktop central server and also distribution servers. nothing seems informing about that. opened tickets, sent log and no answer yet...please answer asap
Direct Connection and machines on the WAN
Trying to get a better understanding on what I need to configure. I have my DEsktop Central/Service Desk machine, with direct access to the internet. I'd love to manage my machines out in the wild via Desktop Central. Are there any other service ports that needs to be open? What would be the best way to configure my agents to work from the WAN? (Scan and remote control) Please advise.
I have problems with connect to remote computers. Error Connection refused: connect
When try to connect many computers appears the menssage in the console ERROR Connection refused: connect. I don´t understand this message because not have help. And not have link to access to web help. You can explain the reason this message or problem. Because i cannot connect to remote computers. O you can tell me how to check log files. Remote agent
I am running DC 8 and have some issues: 1. When downloading the remote agent from my installation, it is coming down as v7? why isn't it v8 as well? 2. Remote agents that have not contacted the server in a while are reported as healthy when they are not 3. A remote agent on Windows XP Home is reported as healthy, but ESET anti-virus detects that it 60 updates missing, 5-6 of which are critical
Unsure a software package is installed
Hi, I have been looking to see if there is a way to check if a software package is installed, and if it isn't to automatically install it. For example, when you add a new machine into Desktop Central the server scans the machine and inbstalls all software packages designated to always be installed. I'm seeing the downloads everywhere. But they never bother mentioning the build number.
How to find out if file exists?
I had a software install push out a self-contained virtual application and now need to delete it from certain desktops. What is the best way to find out if a computer has a certain file? Thanks Charles
