Deploying MS Office to Windows 7
I'm tring to deploy MS office 2007 and 2010 Beta to Windows 7 but unfortunatly I'm not able to finish the process. I tried the same package to deploy it to Windows XP and it was installed successfully. Can someone Advice what is the problem. Regards.
DesktopCentralAgent installation in silent mode
hello, sorry for my bad English, I want to install the agent in silent mode: with the command "...\directsetup\DesktopCentralAgent.msi /qn" it works for the first part but then I have the window "connection setting for server communication" with DCServername, DCServerport and DCServerip and after the window: "Proxy setting". What orders are to be added to deploy the agent completely silent. Thank you.
Uninstall OFFICE 2003 - Deploy OFFICE 2007
Here at Highlands & Islands Fire & Rescue Service in Scotland we have installed a trial version of Desktop Central which I must say we are very impressed with so far. What we are trying to do is this:- We have over 500 machines within the service which are currently using OFFICE 2003 but we would like to use Desktop Central to test a few machines by Uninstalling OFFICE 2003 and deploying OFFICE 2007. Desktop Central Server Space
What can I delete out of the Desktop Central Server directory that will allow for me to install the latest patch. I only have 3GB of space left on the drive and the newest patch says it requires like 5GB of space. My patch folder has doubled since we are now able to keep other applications up to date. My hard drive is full and I do not want to delete anything that would stop desktop central from working. I finally have almost all of my computers up to date and have quite a few configurations
Moving from one server to another
I have had DC installed on a server for quite some time. I now need to move it to a new physical server. I was planning to backup the database, then restore it to the new server. However, when I tried to restore it, I got an error that says "This backup file {100521-1027.zip] and the current version of the product are not compatible. Problem whiel restoring db please refer to logs ... backuplog100521.txt] for more info" When I go to that log file, I get the following: ===========================================================================

Distribution Server
I have 3 Distribution Servers and they are all working properly. However, when I view my SoM > Remote Offices it says: The Distribution Server is not installed in the following remote office(s) for all 3 DS servers. I installed them by following the instructions. How do I correct this? Thank you!
Static and Dynamic IP and monitoring system
Hi, We are currently developing a Photo Kiosk system which means we have these kiosks where people can print directly their photo's by uploading via Bluetooth, USB, SD etc. There will be around 750 kiosks around with their own wireless internet modem. The server has a static IP but all 750 kiosks will have dynamic IP's. Can we still use Desktop Central for this? Is it possible to monitor and build in alerts whenever a kiosk is not working properly anymore into the server? Which means malfunction
Inventory reports - software product keys not showing (office)
one of the selling points for us (currently on a trial) is the reporting and software inventory tracking. I have about 30 (out of 600) computers setup in a test environment, only 11 of the 30 show office cd keys . What am I missing here?

Currently logged on users
I am trying to answer the question "who is logged on to all computers at this very moment". When I look at the Currently Logged On Users report it shows a user as currently logged on to a machine, but when I check the computer itself the user is not actually logged on. Is this a bug? Is there a way to refresh the report so that it is actually accurate for this moment, or is this report really a last logged on user report rather than a currently logged on user report?

Web Console - Can't Login Remotely
Hi. I just installed version 7, fresh (not an upgrade). I can get to the web console from the machine on which it is running, but not from my remote workstation. I chose a custom port for the web console when installing. It is using that port, and it works fine for the local attempts, but when trying from another machine (on the same subnet), it never gets anything....just times out (both IE and Firefox). QuickTime
The one product that I am surprised is not supported yet for automatic patching is Apple QuickTime (and perhaps iTunes). I am currently deploying it fine with Software Deployment, but it would be nice if it were available for automatic patching. Is there a licensing problem with Apple? Thanks!
Use Domain Name w/o Port?
Currently, I'm using Desktop Central using localhost:8020, but I'd really like to assign a local hostname (say http://desktopcentral) and an internet domain name (say http://desktopcentral.mydomain.com). Usually, I could do this through IIS7 by editing the bindings, but Desktop Central doesn't have a site/application listed in IIS7, so I can't do this. I've tried everything I can think of, but nothing works. Anyone able to give me a hand? I'm using Windows Server 2008 with IIS7. Thanks, Sean
Patch loop problem
I have done a patch scan on an XP SP3 machine and it reports that it needs MS04-028 (NDP1.1-KB830348-X86.exe). But when I apply the patch it fails with this result: "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Cannot deploy exe in Windows 7
Hi. I have 6 Windows XP SP3 machines and 1 Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit. I created an EXE install package which deploys successfully on the 6 XP machines but not on the Windows 7 machine. It produces an "Invalid Handle" error. I have turned UAC off and enabled NTLM when negotiated but it still fails. What should I try next? Thanks!
Software Deployment
I just about went crazy on my first software deployment from "Access Denied" messages until I found this article. I had to use both Copy and RunAs in order to get a successful install. But now I have the following questions: 1. Why must I specify RunAs when Desktop Central already has the same credentials stored under Admin > SoM > Edit Credentials. They are exactly the same credentials. Should not Desktop Central simply use these credentials by default? 2. Why must I specify the MSI Root
Software Deployment order
I have 3 MSI's to install to a group of machines. They must be installed in a specific order. The only way I found to specify the installation order in a single configuration is to number the package names when I originally create them. Is there a feature to choose the installation order? Thanks!

Intelligent patching
Suppose I have a list of 5 machines in "Highly Vulnerable Systems" with various missing patches. I then tic the upper check-box to choose all 5 machines, then click Deploy Missing Patch and deploy the configuration. I presume that this configuration will selectively attempt to individually apply only the specific patches needed on each of the 5 machines, but when the configuration runs it produces some errors as if an attempt had been made to apply all patches to all machines. Real-time data and interaction
Hi. I am currently evaluating Desktop Central and we intend to purchase it. Although we are pleased enough with the current features to warrant a purchase, the single biggest missing feature when compared with our current management product is the lack of real-time interaction with the agents. Running the Apply Now tool from a command line is cumbersome. Please integrate this functionality into the GUI. Thank you!

Is there a feature in Desktop Central to poll all machines to discover which ones are not currently turned on (i.e. they did not respond to the poll)?

Extra users\computers appearing in configurations
We are having an issue where extra users or computers are getting added to some configurations. It has happened to several types of configurations (software installations, logon scripts, mapped drives). The extra users\computers are not shown in the target list, only in execution status list. Thank you for any assistance in this matter.
Custom Groups
When creating Custom Groups the navigation window provides Tree and List (from the entire domain) or Add from a manually-typed list. How can we choose from a shorter list of only our currently-managed machines? Thank you!

SOX problem
We have implemented Desktop Central and it is working very well great job. However we have just been audited with SOX guidlines and one thing I am getting a lot of pressure on is that the agent is a manuall installation (meaning human error or firewalls etc could play a roll in some systems not being update). I would like to see some kind of sync to active directory to include and automated install of the agent. This of course would require the agent to be able to understand if it is on a 192.168.2.0
trying to patch KB959209 for .NET
Hi there Im trying to apply patches to my .NET installations. There is KB959209 containing KB958481 (for .NET 2.0 SP2), KB958483 (for .NET 3.0 SP2) and KB958484 (for .NET 3.5 SP1) I would like to apply all the three KB's, but I can only find KB958484 (=96780) in the Repository? Push agent for desktop central fails
We are new customers and have not been able to push agent out to all Windows 2k/xp machines as intended. I was thinking of maybe pushing a silent .msi file install via domain login script. Has anyone done this? Is there an easy way to create .msi file?

Validation Failed adding an Active Directory domain
Hi, I installed the Device Central 70106. I am trying to add a test Active Directory. I added the user "dcentral" and added it to the Domain Admins. Deploying Login Desktop Settings
Hi, I'm trying to set the Wallpaper of the login Screen in windows XP with desktop central. To do this I need to set a registry key in HKEY_USERS\.Default. But this tree can only be accessed through User Configurations. Is there a way to do this in a computer configuration? I'd like to control this computer and not user dependent. greetz chris
Remote Control and Caps Lock/Shift Key Issue
When I am remote controlling a computer and I am logging into it, entering a password in that requires using the shift key, the password is not excepted. I tested it on other machines and holding the caps lock or shift key does not translate through the remote control session. What to do?
