Easiest way to create minimum requirements report
Hi All, What would be the easiest way to create a report for when wanting to check the inventorys for minimum and reccomended requirements for a software rollout. ie. we are riolling out WIndows 7 and office 2007 and whish to create a report that lists any computers that dont meet the minimum requirements. Agent installation reports as malware
When deploying the remote agent, users get an alert from AVG business edition that malware has been detected and do you want to quarantine. Does anyone else get this error?
Remote Control Settings
I am having a problem on the remote control tab of DC. We customized the message for the prompt but now we cannot change it. Everytime we try to change it, we get an error on the page and it will not save the changes. I have tried several different times on several different browsers and it still will not save the changes. I thought that I might be able to find the web files that generate that page, and manually change it, but I don't know where to begin to look. Anyone had this problem before
Differentiating between OEM and Full Product
We have a number of desktops and servers that are a mixture of OEM windows and open licence. Desktop Central shows them as the same, ie. XP Service Pack 3 We need to be able to monitor licence usage of both. Have i missed something here or is this not possible?
WOL>Install Patches>Shutdown
Hi, We would like to use WOL to wake our computers, apply patches of software and then shutdown. Is there a way to do this. I have tried, but because it waits for either login or 90 minute refresh it means we have to leave the computers on for some time.
Configuring firewall port
Hello! I manage an office with approx 160 machines. I need to allow a program through the firewall on each machine. Is it possible to do this? I clicked on add configurations - computer configurations - firewall to do this but I must have a port number. Since it uses multiple ports I need to allow the application without a port number. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Patrick
Deleting configurations
There really has to be an easier way to delete multiple configurations instead of one at a time. Would it be hard to add check boxes beside each configuration so that you can select multiple old configurations and then "delete selected"?

Logical Disk Partitions
With desktop central 7 how can I create a report for the Logical Disk Partitions of every server? The current drive space/disk usage reports do me no good if a server has 2 logical partitions and 1 is full and the other is not. What if a server has 2 logical partitions (a C: and D: both the same size), lets say c: is 99% full and e: is 49% full, the report will say 50% space used. But clearly the C: is dangerously close to full capacity. I need a detailed report by Logical Disk Partition.
File Folder Operations- accessing %userprofile% directory
Is there a way to access a user's home directory via the file/folder operations configurations? Dynamic Variables gives me $ShellHistory - "C:Documents and SettingsJohnSmithLocal SettingsHistory", $ShellMypictures - "C:Documents and SettingsJohnSmithMy DocumentsMy Pictures", etc. Im looking to simply access c:Documents and SettingsJohn Smith DC doesnt honor windows path shorthand (%appdata%, %userprofile%, etc). what im trying to do is copy a file to the user who logs on App Data directory. is this
Server error on restart?
Have installed Desktop Central trial on a server, was testing it out on a few machines. Restarted the server due to a windows update and now it wont seem to start the service. Using the web browser to access it i get the message: Service Temporarily Unavailable The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Computer Management / Event Log in DC?
Is it possible to access the Computer Management mmc snap-in from Desktop Central? What i am really trying to accomplish is viewing computer event logs from within DC. Thank you!
default target for software installation
Hi Is there any way to choose a different default target for software installation? Right now the radio button defaults to "Domain" but I'd like to set it to "computer" to prevent accidental deployment to unnecessary machines. Thanks
Computer Inventory
I am at Build number 70100. I recently noticed that in Computers By Inventory, next to "Server" the number is 2, which is incorrect. When I click on the "2" it lists all 7 of my true Windows 2003/2008 servers. Is this a known issue? Thanks - jsbac

moving a computer between sites
Hi I have desktop computers that are moving from one remote office to another, and some to the LAN. What's the best way to reflect this in DesktopCentral? Do I need to uninstall the agent and reinstall the agent for the new site on each computer? Thanks
WinInstall MSI package Software Deployment problem - Desktop Central
I am testing DC software deployment of MSI package which is created by using Scalable WinInstall LE. The Desktop Central task said "executed", but when I checked the client computer, the apps was not on start menu, not listed in "add remove programs" and no registry changes for the apps, however the apps folder was created in program files and apps can be run from there. I also tested the MSI package installation directly on the client machine and there was no problem at all. So I assume the package
Unknown error codes deploying patches
Hi I've just started using Desktop Central and am getting a couple of failures which are showing Unknown Errors in the remark. One of them is Code: 2359302 and the other is Code: -1073741502 Is there anywhere that I can find out what these codes mean? Thanks
How integrate active directory and desktop central on the user logon?
How can I control the user logon using desktop central? is it posible? I would like to know wich user was logged on pc's, the pc's aren't in a domain but I need to know if the user is in my active directory. Thanks in advance.

Computer Asset Tags
Hello - I just started using Desktop Central. My company issues a unique asset tag number for each computer. Is there a way to enter that number into Desktop Central? I tried adding it in Active Directory (Computers) in the description field but it did not show up in Desktop Central Hardware Inventory report. Any suggestions on how to get these numbers assigned and displayed in Desktop Central are appreciated. Barb

I've just installed Desktop Central and we have 1 head office and 7 remote offices. I've deployed the distribution server software to the remote offices and they show up in desktop central as remote offices. I've also deployed agents at the remote offices and they seem to report in the way they should. However, I have not installed the distribution server software on the HQ Desktop Central server (Do I need to do this?) My OU structure looks like this: ---- HQ (192.168.1.0 subnet) |--- RemoteOffice1

Add AD group to local administrators
Hi team, what is the best way to add an AD group to a PC's local admin group? "Add Computer Configuration > Group Management" does not give you the option to add the AD group into e.g. local admin, just as local users. thanks, Marty.
Registry Settings Configuration - HKEY_USERS/.Default
Desktop Central only allows you to deploy settings for HKEY_USERS/.Default under user configurations. This should be allowed under computer configurations as well (or instead even). While HKEY_USERS/.Default is technically a user hive, the settings pertain more to how you want the computer to be configured for the user(s) on that computer. In most cases, I want to modify this key by computer - not by user.
SDP + DesktopCentral Integration
Should I be using the internal IP address for connecting Desktop Central to SDP? And what port should I also be specifying? I have tried a number of different ports and I cannot get it to connect. Our SDP uses 443 for the server. Just not sure if I am supposed to be using that or not.

Desktop Central and Service-desk detected software
I have integration setup between DC and SDP and its "seems" to be working ok except for detected software. In Desktop Central I get 1709 individually detected pieces of software and in SDP I see only 1519. Is there anything that would account for this fluctuation. I dont want to have to seperatelly maintain two different lists of hardware/Software in these applications. having them sync is incredibly useful but if they do not sync correct, why even bother. Installing the Firefox setup.exe -ms with a computer-based installation
Hello there, just trying out your DC Version 7 software before buying it. I have a problem with installing Firefox Version 3.6 using a computer-based installation. My client agent is working fie as I have tested remote desktop, windows updates.. etc.... I keep on getting the access denied failed message after trying this installation. I used a domain admin account like this DOMAIN\Accountname Is this OK Any ideas? Regards, Chris
Desktop Central Passes Windows 7 Compatibility Test
Hi, We are happy to announce that Desktop Central has successfully passed the Windows 7 Compatibility Test and has now been listed in Windows 7 Compatibility Center . Is there an available documentation or info on Service Desk Plus integration. ie.. do I continue to run the hardware/software scans on Service Desk if Desktop Central is scanning also. How do I tell replication or if Desktop Central is pushing the information to SDP. ' thanks J

E-mail alert and report on MAC change
Hello, Currently DC is able to sent e-mail reports, when new hardware is found. I would be urgently interested in two features: 1. To send e-mail when MAC address of any of PC's networks adapters changes 2. To have possibility to add MAC address to custom report (I suppose query report would do this, but it's a hassle to find column names)
