Background running process list
It would be helpful in diagnosing possible virus/trojan infections, if we could have an at-a-glance look at the currently running processes on the system. I don't see this as having to be real time, but accurate as of the last scan (since a scan can be implemented on any system at any time, not just based on a schedule). Real time metrics would take up to much bandwidth and processes.
Troubleshooting the "Connect" button in DC7
When I press the connect button nothing happens. This is on multiple pc's. I can scan workstations fine (manually through the button next to connect) but when the connect button to launch the remote desktop sessions does nothing. Any ideas what to check (popup blockers are off).

Weird things happen when patching a PC
Kind of hard to explain but when we patch a PC with a patches it seems to steal the active window focus. As an example I patched a users PC today with the base configuration of doing it silently and not requiring a reboot. While the user was working he would continually have the focus taken off of his database window requiring him to click back on the database window to make it active. While I was at his desk it too the focus off the window minimum of 5 times.
Agent won't stay connected
On some of my Windows Server 2003 devices, the Desktop Central Agent keeps losing its connection to the Desktop Central Server. It does connect some of the time, so it's not an issue of the port being blocked. As far as I know, there are no other services trying to use the same port, either. Do you have any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? It's becoming a problem for patching. Thanks! -Chris

Changing "Registered To" field
Is there a way to change the Registered To field within Desktop Central. I suspect it get the name from the local admin account that is created during installation of the O/S. Some of my colleagues have used random names which are now appearing in DC and I would like to change them to something more meaningful.

ManageEngine Desktop Central Server 7 Service

Retrieving Information from Desktop Central from outside of the application
We have a proprietary help desk ticketing solution that we are not ready to replace yet. One of the features in the ticketing system was to pull inventory information of the computer in question. With the previous inventory product we used(Specops), we simply passed the computer name in the url to retrieve information. I know that with servicedesk it is possible, but in the absence of that, are there any options?
Need a report to simply display the local time on remote pc's.
Is there a report, or a way to create a custom report, to give me the time/date on remote pc's?
Filter by group in SoM, Credentials (admin account) use for install agnet and actual user ID logon PC issue
I am trying the Desktop Central 7. Are there a way to make filter by group in SoM screen. In the first installation and set up the software, it discovers 500+ PCs. I selected some and make group for them. Can I use filter by group in SoM screen to manage them and select by group to install agent software. When I select the computer for agent software installation, I need to edit the Credentials with corresponding domain name, admin account and password. Do I have to have the same user ID and password as

Patch Management not reporting operating system correctly.
We have today updated Desktop Central to build 70202 and watched the agent correctly update itself on our desktop machines. When I look at the inventory the operating system is correctly reported (see Inventory.jpg) If however I go to Patch Mgmt and select All Managed Systems the same machines are being reported as Windows Vista, however they really are Windows 7 Pro (see PatchMgmt.jpg). Running a new patch scan appears to fix this and the operating system then reports Windows 7 again.
Running Desktop Central through the Internet
Please bear with me ...I am BRAND NEW to Manage Engine and Desktop Central. Scenerio: I am familiar with using Kaseya to manage desktops through the Internet and recently landed a new job in which I spearheaded the installation of Manage Engine Desktop Central. Desire: I would like to set up my MEDC server to be accessible from the Internet so that I may be able to deploy patches and remote into machine etc etc..without having to be in the office. Can some one please tell me if this is feasable
Have checkdisk scan all disks.
Hi We recently lost power to our server farm and we wanted to use Desktop central to automate the checkdisk process. We found that there was no simple way of checking all disks on a server in one go, if I have missed it please let me know. We had to create a task for each server select the individual drive letter of the drive we wanted to check. Some of our servers vary in the amount of drives they have, such as C: D: and E:, and some have only a C:. Our citrix servers for example use U: and V:.
Does Desktop Central show when computers are online/offline?
I'm testing out Desktop Central 7 now (specifically the MSP edition), and I've only run into one signficant issue so far: I've installed one agent on a computer in a Remote Office. The agent installs without issue, remote control works pretty well, and overall things seem to work well. What's strange is that the Computer inventory, it always shows a user as being one of the "Logged On Users" no matter how long the machine has been offline. Does this ever get updated? Is there some other way to see
Processor speed in inventory reports

Why doesn't the Computer Inventory View show me all the computers?
If I create an inventory report of computers, it will create a list, identical to our Active Directory info. However, when I am on the Inventory page with computers selected, all of the computers aren't listed. Some of them are missing.

Question on DCService
We recently had to reinstall DesktopCentral due to some database corruption. Nothing too hard, and the process was relatively painless. I uninstalled the agent across the board, then recursively removed the standard install directory from all machines so I would be starting with a clean slate. Subsequently, and only on some machines, I'm seeing a WScript popup (started by dcservice) that is trying to run a non-existant .vbs script. Since the standard install directories were clean, where does
Unable to remote control machines with multiple IP addresses in different subnets - and now scan fails as well
We have discovered that it the target machine has multiple IP addresses in different subnets then the we are unable to remote control them. The patch and asset scan work fine to these machine, however the remote control fails with "The network path was not found" After testing we realised it only affects target clients that have virtual NIC's configured for different subnets. The machines with the problem were running either VMWare Workstation or Oracle VM Virtual Box which both create virtual
Thinking about replacing vb login script with Desktop Central configuration (anyone have any experience/currently do this)?
I currently use a vb login script (like I'm sure many folks do), to accomplish a variety of tasks during login. I know that Desktop Central can do some/all(?) of the items my script does but I'm wondering if anyone has current experience and can comment on any pitfalls. My current script: Maps a few network drives (one based on username, one depending on whether a person is a member of a specific AD group, the other a general everyone gets it drive). Runs a batch file that overwrites a local file
Run File On Machine.
Hi, I have a piece of bespoke software that i need to roll-out to a windows 7 client. I've got a Folder that contains a bat file that must be copied to a specific folder on the C: drive then a bat file in the folder must be run as an Admin. The Windows 7 Client machines does not have local admin. So far I've created a bat file which uses xcopy to copy this software from a folder on a network share the folder on the C:\ Drive and tried to get Desktop Central to send this out, however it does not work
Update Agent Systray settings
If you deploy the agent, then go back into the Admin interface and make changes to the Agent or the Agent Systray Icon behavior, is that automatically pushed out or does the agent poll the config routinely? What is the schedule for this? I see 'refresh period 90min' quite a bit under the patch deployment... is this the same refresh cycle?
Remote tool not working well for remote office computers
Hello, I have moved our MEDC server to a server at our main facility, and installed the distribution server at my facility. I followed the instructions to install the desktop client to several machines here where the distribution server is. Since that time it has been hard to connect or stay connected to machines. I am in the same building as these machines and in some cases on the same subnet. Is there an issue with the remote tool and clients listed under a remote office?
DC agent install then uninstall
I have several machines which I can install the agent via SoM with no problem. I come back a few hours later and those very same machines show 'Uninstalled Successfully' for the agent status. I didn't uninstall the agent. Those PC's are not manned so the agent wasn't uninstalled at the PC's themselves by anyone. Why would a DC agent uninstall itself?
Cannot access AD via Desktop Central
I have added a remote location and deployed an Distributed Server on this location. The DS and the Desktop Central are communicating well. remote DS is in the remote domain. When I installed manually agent, all is also going well. However, when I try to edit credentiel to browse the Active Directory to select computers, I have th following message : "Domain Controller is not valid or not operational" How can that be ? Same missing patches keep getting offered.
I have a machine that keeps getting the same patches offered. Patch # 7995 and #9118. I have even ran the patches manually and the status returned was that the patch was already installed or part of a previous patch. Why do I keep getting missing patch warnings?
Assign printer based in ip-address or login-server?
Hi.... Is it possible to assign printer(s) to users based on the ip-scope og logon-server? Our users are located in different countries, where the networks' ip-scope differentiates on third octet (Denmark = 172.21.4.x, Sweden = 172.21.8.x, Norway = 172.21.12.x etc.) I'm looking for a way to assign one or more local printer(s) to users no matter where he/she is logging in. Example: If a Swedish user is visiting the Danish office he/she should have a Danish printer assigned, but when in the Swedish
App and Internet metering
It would be nice to have this function in Desktop Central. DC already has agents you just need to add the feature. Netsupport DNA has some sample of what should be. See link. http://www.netsupportdna.com/metering.asp Thank you, Niles
How to migrate DC to a new server?
Is it possible and if so, what steps need to take place for moving the DC installation to a new server. I have sent multiple emails to DesktopCentral Support and have not heard back from them. We want to move Desktop Central off an old server to a new VM server that has been setup. It will be much easier to maintain. I need to make sure that the agents that currently have DC installed will now point to the new server. Please help! Rob
Software Deployment Gets Integrated with ServiceDesk Plus
Hello, The Software Deployment module of Desktop Central now gets integrated with ServiceDesk Plus. This means, the HelpDesk technicians will be able to deploy software applications to user computers from the ServiceDesk Plus console. To enable this integration the following pre-requisites have to be met: Customers should have installed both ServiceDesk Plus and Desktop Central in their network The ServiceDesk Plus version should be 8.0 and Desktop Central version should be build #70123 or above
Asset sync DC7 and SDP wrong Domain name
We have both Service Desk Plus and Desktop Central with DC7 sending the asset information to Service Desk. However, when the asset information is passed to Service Desk, it sends the AD domain information and not the domain information that DC7 uses. Domain - company_domain AD Domain =company.local This casues an issue when trying to iniciate a software load from SDP to DC7. Service Desk finds the computer as being in the company.local domain but Desktop Central does not find it (thinking it

AD Reports for OU in Domain
Is there a way to have Desktop Central scan a specific OU in the domain for the AD reports? I was very surprised when seeing that our entire parent domain was scanned into the reports, and am now concerned for my job. I have this feature now turned off, but really do need it for our OU in the domain. Also, is there a way to purge all of that information out of Desktop Central? I have seen this question asked in 2009, but wanted to ask again.
Configuration Problem
Hey, I am working on creating a configuration to lock down computers for public use. In the configuration we have set several options. When we deploy the configuration, all settings seem to be taking effect except for the "network" settings. Any idea why this would be happening?
