View User Log-on History day to day
Is it possible to view a users logon/logoff history on a day-to-day basis? In other words, I'd liked to generate a report that shows when each users logs on and logs off every day during the week. We want to track time. Saving the data as a CSV so it can be analyzed in Excel would be a good thing, too.
Problem deploying msi or exe
I keep getting the same error: Could not copy the installables to the client computers : The system cannot find the path specified. I'm not sure what this means which path can't be found ? The share which has the msi or the destination? I added a package and the msi is on a file share. I can install patches just fine but software deployment fails with this error every time.
Level of Admin Rights
Hello Support Team, I would like to user Desktop Central to know who the currently logged on user is for a machine on the domain. The Active Directory Team is hesitant in providing me Domain Admin Rights. Is there any lower level of administrative access using which I can check currently logged on user through Desktop Central. Updating the new drivers for OS Deployer
Hi Folks, Here is a quick procedure to update the files on the OS Deployer server so that the OSD boot Agent can support the latest drivers, especially Ethernet/Network card. You need to download and decompress 'bootwiz.sys, kernel.dat and ramdisk.dat' files from the following archives (ZIP files) to update OSD Bootable media and PXE Server. Update the OSDDemon folder Download the below given zip http://bonitas.zohocorp.com/desktopcentral/24Jun2010/OSD_Agent.zip Now replace 'kernel.dat' and 'ramdisk.dat'
Desktop Central manage software licenses
Hi, a customer recently bought the Desktop Central software. He needs to manage software licenses but he has two problems: 1- the Microsoft office licenses are 1 for each PC and this is easy. The problem arise with Citrix users. Each user should have is own license. How they can count them? 2- they have several licenses for Lotus Clients no matter the version, unfortunately the DC counts each client version as a separate software. How they count the whole Lotus Clients installed instead? Thanks.
OU Based installation
Hi I'm not sure if this is a feature request or a bug report. I deploy clients based on Organisational Units in Active directory. Depending on the OU, a different set of Software is installed on the client. This currently works fine, if a client already existed in this OU (e.g. if the client is reinstalled). But if i put a new client into the OU, it won't be added to the configuration group and no software is deployed until I edit the configuration and hit the deploy button. But this causes, that
DesktopCentral patch management question
We are trying to use DC to roll out SPs/patches in our domain(s). However, every time we create a new config to roll out to a specific pod/floor it RE downloads SP3 for XP. We have a good WSUS installation, can we point our DC installation to that server for updates so they don't have to be downloaded over and over again from the internet?
List of printers per workstation
Is there a way to get a list of each printer installed per workstation? It would be nice to see which printers are installed on each workstation/per workstation. It would also be nice to see which computers have a particular printer installed on it. In other words, be able to search printer inventory by workstation *OR* by printer. jsbac

Hi, Is there a way to reinstall wan agents from the server? When i go to remote site i find there are some agents uninstalled i proceed to select the pcs and reinstall the agent, but it then move the pc from the remote location to the local Office. Please advise. Thanks,

Patch management for an air-gapped network
Hey all, A friend recommended Desktop Central to me for managing OS patches in a lab I work at. We have about 5 workstations all with XP 64-bit that are on a network air-gapped from the outside world (can't hook them up to an Internet connection). However I have one administrative machine in the lab that is connected to an Internet connection. Now I can move that machine between the two networks (have to make a NIC change and cable swap), so what I wanted to do is set up DC to download the patches
Custom Groups
What is the main purpose of Custom Groups ? I have made Custom Groups from our domain, using Users Group Type and I can see the list contain of our user domain. When I want to use Filter by in Asset Scan, pick Custom Group only Inactive_Users_domainname appear and the Custom Groups I've made are not appear. Is it like that or is there any way to make the Custom Group I've made to be appear ? Is there any way to make Custom Reports and generate using Custom Groups ?

Deploying MS Office to Windows 7
I'm tring to deploy MS office 2007 and 2010 Beta to Windows 7 but unfortunatly I'm not able to finish the process. I tried the same package to deploy it to Windows XP and it was installed successfully. Can someone Advice what is the problem. Regards.
DesktopCentralAgent installation in silent mode
hello, sorry for my bad English, I want to install the agent in silent mode: with the command "...\directsetup\DesktopCentralAgent.msi /qn" it works for the first part but then I have the window "connection setting for server communication" with DCServername, DCServerport and DCServerip and after the window: "Proxy setting". Desktop Central Server Space
What can I delete out of the Desktop Central Server directory that will allow for me to install the latest patch. I only have 3GB of space left on the drive and the newest patch says it requires like 5GB of space. My patch folder has doubled since we are now able to keep other applications up to date. My hard drive is full and I do not want to delete anything that would stop desktop central from working. I finally have almost all of my computers up to date and have quite a few configurations
Moving from one server to another
I have had DC installed on a server for quite some time. I now need to move it to a new physical server. I was planning to backup the database, then restore it to the new server. However, when I tried to restore it, I got an error that says "This backup file {100521-1027.zip] and the current version of the product are not compatible. Distribution Server
I have 3 Distribution Servers and they are all working properly. However, when I view my SoM > Remote Offices it says: The Distribution Server is not installed in the following remote office(s) for all 3 DS servers. I installed them by following the instructions. How do I correct this? Thank you!
Static and Dynamic IP and monitoring system
Hi, We are currently developing a Photo Kiosk system which means we have these kiosks where people can print directly their photo's by uploading via Bluetooth, USB, SD etc. There will be around 750 kiosks around with their own wireless internet modem. The server has a static IP but all 750 kiosks will have dynamic IP's. Can we still use Desktop Central for this? Is it possible to monitor and build in alerts whenever a kiosk is not working properly anymore into the server? Which means malfunction
Inventory reports - software product keys not showing (office)
one of the selling points for us (currently on a trial) is the reporting and software inventory tracking. I have about 30 (out of 600) computers setup in a test environment, only 11 of the 30 show office cd keys . What am I missing here?

Currently logged on users
I am trying to answer the question "who is logged on to all computers at this very moment". When I look at the Currently Logged On Users report it shows a user as currently logged on to a machine, but when I check the computer itself the user is not actually logged on. Is this a bug? Is there a way to refresh the report so that it is actually accurate for this moment, or is this report really a last logged on user report rather than a currently logged on user report?

Web Console - Can't Login Remotely
Hi. I just installed version 7, fresh (not an upgrade). I can get to the web console from the machine on which it is running, but not from my remote workstation. I chose a custom port for the web console when installing. It is using that port, and it works fine for the local attempts, but when trying from another machine (on the same subnet), it never gets anything....just times out (both IE and Firefox). Error when attempting to disable Windows Firewall

QuickTime
The one product that I am surprised is not supported yet for automatic patching is Apple QuickTime (and perhaps iTunes). I am currently deploying it fine with Software Deployment, but it would be nice if it were available for automatic patching. Is there a licensing problem with Apple? Thanks!
Use Domain Name w/o Port?
Currently, I'm using Desktop Central using localhost:8020, but I'd really like to assign a local hostname (say http://desktopcentral) and an internet domain name (say http://desktopcentral.mydomain.com). Usually, I could do this through IIS7 by editing the bindings, but Desktop Central doesn't have a site/application listed in IIS7, so I can't do this. I've tried everything I can think of, but nothing works. Anyone able to give me a hand? I'm using Windows Server 2008 with IIS7. Thanks, Sean
Patch loop problem
I have done a patch scan on an XP SP3 machine and it reports that it needs MS04-028 (NDP1.1-KB830348-X86.exe). But when I apply the patch it fails with this result: "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Cannot deploy exe in Windows 7
Hi. I have 6 Windows XP SP3 machines and 1 Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit. I created an EXE install package which deploys successfully on the 6 XP machines but not on the Windows 7 machine. It produces an "Invalid Handle" error. I have turned UAC off and enabled NTLM when negotiated but it still fails. What should I try next? Thanks!
Software Deployment
I just about went crazy on my first software deployment from "Access Denied" messages until I found this article. I had to use both Copy and RunAs in order to get a successful install. But now I have the following questions: 1. Why must I specify RunAs when Desktop Central already has the same credentials stored under Admin > SoM > Edit Credentials. They are exactly the same credentials. Should not Desktop Central simply use these credentials by default? 2. Why must I specify the MSI Root
Software Deployment order
I have 3 MSI's to install to a group of machines. They must be installed in a specific order. The only way I found to specify the installation order in a single configuration is to number the package names when I originally create them. Is there a feature to choose the installation order? Thanks!
