Patch Management Exceptions
Programming for patch deployment doesn't seem intuitive. I'm doing Patch Mgmt -> All Systems I want to do Remote Office = Distribution Server AND Custom Group != Exceptions My intent is to get all the computers on that server then exclude the small group of exceptions. I suspect when adding the Custom Group != the programming is first verifying that there is a custom group present then excluding those in MO_Exceptions. This isn't intuitive. Where is scheduled shutdown started from?
Hi, We will have planned power outages in several different buildings this weekend. Some of the computers need to be available untill the last moment, so I want to schedule them to be shutdown. So far no problem, however the outage in the building the Desktop Central server is running in is before the others and we don't have our new UPS yet. Therefore my question: When I schedule a shutdown, where is the schedule saved? Is the command sent to the client right away and then executed from there
Setting proxy server based on IP address
How can I set the proxy server settings based on ip address? I have several users who moved frequently between Remote Offices. Because the Internet Explorer configuration is a User Config, I can't set it based on IP address like I can the Firewall Config. Any ideas?
An unusual problem

Renaming local admin account?
Hello, I have an interesting issue. I have installed DesktopCentral 8 using the free license of 25 computers. However, I didn't realize there was a one admin limit. The interesting part is that the built in admin account stayed put when I added my own account via the AD integration. I deleted the built in admin account and now, cannot add another account besides the AD admin account. What I would like to do is, remove the AD account and revert back to the built in admin account if possible. Any

Can someone please explain how the "Inventory" tab in Desktop Central relates to the "Assets" tab in ServiceDesk Plus" ? Both are installed on the same the server (Windows 2008 R2). It appears that the DesktopCentral Agent take president over the SDP agent.. Can you confirm that? Should both agents be installed on the workstation? Rename Folders
Hi, I recently had a situation where I needed to rename a folder on a bunch of computers. I had 2 folders that I was working with: Folder and FolderNew The rename was supposed to work like this: Folder --> FolderOld FolderNew --> Folder I used the Configuration for File Folder Operation. I entered in my renames as they appear above. I then saved my configuration. When I went back in and checked, Desktop Central had reversed the order of the folder rename so it looked like this. FolderNew --> Folder
Should be simple...how to I push a file to the desktop for a group of users?
I have a shortcut I want to deploy to a group of people who all use the same software. I would like to place the file right on their desktop. That's all that has to happen. The program doesn't change at all, it's just the shortcut that needs to be deployed. I tried "shortcut" under configurations, but that wants me to select a program for it to create a shortcut for. PLEASE HELP!
Skype and Java Updating best practices
We have been using DC for a few months now and I am constantly running into issues with Skype and Java always been in use, therefore, the update can never apply. I'm assuming this is because Java and Skype open on boot by default, which causes them to always be running. Has anyone else dealt with this before? Should we tell our computers not to allow these programs to start on boot? Would this solve the issue?
Creating custom groups from inventory reports
Hi I would like to request a more advanced Custom Group feature, it would be nice if I could generate a report, for example a software report for all computers that have a Adobe Reader 9 installed, And then just mark all computers and create a group. Atm I have to export all computers to a csv file, then import in excel, then edit the document so it only contains computernames, add a coma to each and then copy it back into DC to make the group. Or am I missing something? Maybe there is an easier
Deploy immediately doesn't work anymore - build 80339
Hi guys, Last week after upgrading to build 339 we discovered that the Deploy Immediately function doesn't work anymore. I have tried with 2 deployment policies : - Initiate Deployment at Refresh cycle, any day from 00:00:00 to 23:59:00, do not reboot. - Initiate Deployment Either of these whichever happens earlier, any day from 00:00:00 to 23:59:00, do not reboot. Steps to Migrate anyway from SMS & WSUS to Desktop Central 8
I need to know all the different steps I need to take to migrate away from using SMS & WSUS and start using just Desktop Central. We have both XP & Windows 7 in our environment. I want to know how much of this effort is already documented in a KB article or if Desktop Central has any templates, registry or GPO settings created to make the process easy. Logs folder on Agent
More of a general question. On the agent installed on workstations, how often is the logs folder cleared out? Looking at the one on my system and it contains over 331MB worth of log files.. Is there a routine or a configuration to run to clear this folder or does the server take care of this when it wants to :) Gil
Disable Patch non-microsoft ?
Desktop Central have a non-microsoft patch like java or flash player. My answer is whether it is possible to disable one or several softwares because we have several problems with our software if it upgrade.

I have a periodic task scans, but sometimes there are computers to be turned off and not scanned. It would be possible to scan a computer list by command line ? thanks

Hi Guys, I'm trying to create a configuration from "Block EXE" template. I'm unable to make it work. In the Block EXE template, I'm making the following changes. sample1.exe to cmd.exe sample2.exe to calc.exe After log off/restart it shows executed and I can even see the values in registry but it's not working as expected. Though, I can make it work if I add registry settings by logging as Administrator. Please help me to deploy Block EXE successfully. Cheers.
Customize patch deployment/approval
Currently patches can be approved or rejected, but this applies to all machines in a domain. It would be useful to be able to deploy specific patches to specific machines or groups as well as exclude specific machines from specific patches. Right now, I have two machines that can't get a specific patch, so I have to exclude them from all automated patch management and patch them manually. Customization would also be useful so patches could be deployed to test machines or groups before they are deployed
Archive computer inventory?
I go through a multi-stage process with workstations that get decomissioned. First they are pulled from the network, and then eventually they are sold or discarded in some other fashion. Is there a way to exclude those machines from all scans in desktop central but maintain the computer in desktop central so I have its history until I'm ready to physically get rid of the machine?

Cant delete APPS, PROFILES OR GROUPS

I have a problem – I cannot delete a group since it is complaining about a profile that is still associated with the group. Even after disassociating the profile from a group it is still there, and again it complains that I cannot delete the group as there is a profile associated with the group. Windows Updates & Patch Management compatibility
Dear all, I would like to know what is the best practice for windows updates when patch management is managed through Desktop Central. Should I disable (for instance with a group policy) Windows Updates on computers side and let Desktop Central manage the deployment of those updates. Or Should I let them both enabled (Windows Updates & Patch management in DesktopCentral) ? are they compatible together or if I enabled patch management in DesktopCentral it will affect Windows Updates? Dynamic Custom Groups
I've created a custom group that;- 1. Checks is peace of software is installed 2. If that peace of software if exists isn't a version 3. If another peace of software isn't installed This group seems to work but when attached to a configuration and deploys it, it does have the correct number of clients based on the custom group at the time of creation but the configuration isn't checking the custom group for new clients. Cannot see RDS Blue Bar when remoting into computer
Many of our users that we support use RDS to remote into a server for programs. When we remote into their computers for support, the blue bar at the top does not appear. This is needed to minimize or resize the RDS window. The DC Remote banner covers the area, so I shrink it but there is no blue bar under it. If this was visible, it would eliminate the need to call the user and tell them to minimize the RDS window. Attached is the blue bar I am referring to and what it looks like now when remoting.
Dell CAPTCHA preventing warranty date fetch?
Hey, I'm just rolling out build 80354 in our business and one of the things we're eager to monitor is warranty end dates. However there seems to be an issue fetching the data. If you click the service tag, it takes you to the dell site and shows you the machine spec and ship date. However, to view the warranty end date you need to verify by entering a CAPTCHA. Is this what's preventing DC fetching the date automatically? If it is, how do we get around it? can we enter a Dell username and password

WSUS reporting different status than Desktop Central
Hi, I have been testing Desktop Central as a replacement for WSUS. I notice that on one of our servers, DC reports no missing security updates. WSUS however, reports that KB2807986 (MS13-027) is still required for installation. The patch is definately approved in DC, and I have run the scan successfully a few times just in case. Is there something wrong with this Microsoft update? Or is the problem with WSUS.
Push Apple Apps
I’m testing MDM and so far when I distribute an App, Desktop Central send the user an email asking them to install the App. Is there a way for me to install the app without involving the user (push it to the device)? I’d like it to work similarly to the software deployment for PCs in Desktop Central.

ME MDM Does not download or accept MDM Server Name
Hi, We have recently configured MDM for Desktop Central. I can enrol a device either by email or auto enrolment fine without any problems. The app catalogue downloads onto the phone and information is passed back to the console with no problem. When we push the ME MDM app via the App catalogue the app downloads but does not populate any of the server, port or email fields. Inactive users report has errors due to not interrogating all Domain Controllers
