Agent Installation - One time or perpetual?
When adding computers in SOM and installing the agent immediately, there are some computers that will not have the agent installed because they are not currently connected to the network...specifically laptops. The question I have is does DC6 continually try to install the Agent to these computers, or is it a one time thing? Reason I ask is that we have probably 50-75 laptops that I want included in patch updates, software rollouts etc, but if I have to keep trying to hit them manually to install

Hi, We have Desktop Central installed with MYSQL on a desktop computer and it is running quite slow. Can we install the software on a server that has MS SQL installed and migrate this to that server. Thanks. 8)
Agent Communication
Is their a way or report to run that would tell me the last time an agent communicated with the server? In the last 30 days I have had 5 computers stop taking updates. The only way I caught it was the configiration is stuck in a yet to be assigned state. I then have to manually search the logs on each machine, etc. -Joe

I am running 60316 build but the agent is 6.3.14. I download a free copy of the DC software and the agent is 6.3.17 Which one should it be? How do we get the agents to update when we apply a service pack? -Joe
Internet Explorer 8
Sounds like IE8 is now available and being pushed via Automatic Updates in Windows, however have heard of several problems. We do not have any plans to immediately upgrade to IE 8 as we have several web applications that have not been tested with IE 8. Will DC6 be automatically including these in the updates, and if so will there be an option to EXCLUDE this update specifically? Thank you! Richard
Option to Warn Users Prior To Pushing Software/Patches
Suggestion to have an option to notify users that Patches or Software is being pushed to their computer. Users have noticed that their desktop flashes and their computers slow down during patching and call us wondering why. Would be nice to have a customizable message box that can show up prior to the software pushes just like the one that shows up when a reboot is required. Thx! Richard
Automatic Uninstall of Prohibited Software not working
I am testing out the new feature of being able to uninstall prohibited software, and it does not seem to be working. For example on a test machine I loaded Google Toolbar, which is set as prohibited. It's picked up in Inventory scans, but upon reboots and logon is never uninstalled? There are not many options to this so I don't think I'm missing anything. Anyone else run into this?

Unable to Deploy XP SP3

Wake On LAN Options
1) Would love to see in TOOLS > Wake On LAN an option to deploy Immediately. There are times when we are troubleshooting a computer and would love to see the option to be able to deploy immediately. 2) Would really like to see in INVENTORY > Computer Details > add a Wake On LAN button to immediately send a Wake on LAN packet to that computer. Desktop Central Agent PopUp Balloon Problem!
We love having the agent visible to our users, its great and helps a lot. The major problem (and one that would cause us to remove it) is that annoying Pop-Up that appears in the taskbar. In XP the users have to manually close the balloon, in Vista it does disappear, but either way it is VERY annoying and is causing us problems. Can we retain the agent and kill the pop-ups? Execution Status Window
When viewing the Execution Status of Deployed Configurations, if you have multiple computers selected, the window does not wrap the Target Definitions line, making all of the colums in the bottom of the window to stretch to an enourmous length. This makes it difficult because you have to scroll left and right to compare the line of the status of deployment with the machine name at the begining. I have attached a screen shot in PDF for reference. Thank you!
Mapped Drive Configurations
I have configurations for drive mappings based on group membership. I will find that if I new users I have to re-deploy the configuration in order for the server to recognize that the new user should have the particular drives. Additionally, once I log off and back on, the drives are gone in spite of the fact that I have explicitly selected that the configuration is run at every login AND not to erase existing mappings before running the command.
most reports greyed out free version
I believe this just happened after the last dc sp release. most of my reports are greyed out and not usable in free version with 8 pc's. supposed to have all functionality of full version isn't it? thanks. fyi, support file with logs from server sent right now too.
Agent Setting - Enable Firewall Settings
When looking at the configuration settings for the Agent in DC6, it has the option to Enable Firewall Settings. In the popup balloon is specifies four things that will be set if you enable this: 1) Enabling Remote Administration 2) Enabling DCOM 3) Adding File and Printer Sharing to the Exceptions 4) Enabling Simple File Sharing in Windows XP The only problem that I have is #4. Network Browse Window Size Issue
Whenever the Network Browse window opens (picture attached) the window is undersized just enough to cut off the slider bar on the right side of the window. You have to scroll over from the bottom to be able to see it. You are also not able to resize the window. Would be very nice to be able to adjust the window size as well as being able to type the path of the target computer to speed browsing to the machine you want instead of having to scroll through several hundred computers. Active Directory Disabled Computers/Objects
We use Active Directory. I have noticed that when you go into Select Computers from Scope of Management (which it would be great if it spelled that out instead of SoM) that it shows all computers in AD no matter if they are disabled or not. We have several objects/computers that are disabled. Would be beneficial to have them at least be noted somehow in that screen if they are disabled. Otherwise I find that I am trying to push patches or software updates or Agents to machines that are disabled in

Patch management and software deployment
Hi, (DC=Desktop Central) 1) when i launched the patch management from the server to the client through DC agent in computer configuration, it does not execute on the client machine. when i checked teh status of the deployment in the DC server, it spilled out the error as " Could not copy the installables to the client computers: unknown error code: 4500080". Please suggest us where i missed out the installables and what is it? 2) when software deployment is used in computer configuration for uninstallation
Desktop Central Server Will not Start
The other day I went to go access the DC and it told me the database had stopped. I went onto the server (running Windows Vista Business x86) and found the error below in the event log, and the service will no longer start. It appears the DB is corrupted, how can I restore from one of my older backups? Below is a log entry that I found today on my DC server (running SP3). The system has not been touched or logged into for a week now, so I am not sure why or how this has happened. Please let me know

Dynamic Variables
I created a registry configuration to modify the "RegisteredOwner" and "RegisteredOrganization" values in the registry. In order to ensure that the RegisteredOwner values are setup correctly, I used the dynamic variable $DomainUserName that I selected from a list of available variables during configuration setup. Post XPsp3+IE7 patches not downloading
Romanus, Let me start off by saying that the new native service pack deployment menu is a nice feature to have in DC and works flawlessly. But, after upgrading my test machines to sp3 and IE7, there are about 30-40 more critical Windows Updates that need to be installed. MAC OS X Support Needed
It's finally here. MAC's are making there way into our Corporate Environment and it feels like I'm back 10+ years for managing the desktop. Back to putting the app on a share or sneaker network. Besides what Apple offers there isn't anything else out there (unless you have a suggestion.) It would be a bombshell if you guys did the same for MAC's as you do for Windows. DC remote control � Feeling comparatively SLOW
Hi We are using DC remote control to connect to the remote computers using JAVA view. We�re also using another program on few machines to connect machines remotely. DC remote control is much slower than other. 1st it takes time to load JAVA then to connect & even after connection usage is also bit slow. Please advice if I am missing something. Best Regards Adeel
Unstall VNC
Having little trouble uninstalling VNC. I have followed the directions from the deployment guide but keep getting the following message: path not found. Now I know for installs I have to have the package on a network share but the VNC was not installed that way. Do I need to copy the uninst000.exe to a network share than use the command line switches?
Reboot Messages
Would be very nice to be able to change the Reboot Message permantly instead of using the default Desktop Central message each time. Would also be nice to be able to create several "Canned" messages that you could pick from. I customize my message each time to let them know if they have questions who to call and a number...this way they don't think it's just a fluke from Internet Explorer or something and ignore it. Thx! Agent install from server
Has anyone since upgrading to the latest version experienced issues with deploying the agent from the server. This started about two updates ago.
WOL Issues Revisited and Blanks MACs and Incorrect Inventory
3 Different issues so far. 1. WOL functionality is intermittent. MAC addresses do not populate in WOL even though they appear in the hardware tab. Single WOL request targetted at that machine only does work but when the machine is part of a large WOL request it fails. Mutiple machine on same switch (example 5 machines) only 2 wake up. 2. MACs in WOL show blank but are populated in hardware inventory. 3. Software inventory not updating after patching. For example: Software inventory on machine's show
