I want to apply restrictions to the desktop for local users or local groups logging on to a server, but not for the domain users. Does Desktop Central have the abililty to distinguish this? Thx, Ben
Synchronising with Service Desk Plus
Several questions on the synchronisation between the inverntory/asset registers in these two products: 1. If I delete from DC does the workstation get deleted from SD+ ? 2. If I delete from SD+ does it get deleted from DC ? 3. If I mark a workstation in SD+ as disposed or waiting for disposal will it stop it being listed as Highly Vulnerable in DC ? There is no need to report it as vulnerable if it is disposed of but we do still need to keep it in the SD+ asset register. 4. If
Move installation to another disk
Hi, When Desktop Central was first installed it was not envisaged that it would take up as much space as it does and therefore it was installed on a disk without enough space. I would like to find out if it is possible to move the installation onto a disk with more space on the same server. Thanks. Geoff.
Mapped Drive variables
I am trying to map drives based on AD variables. Is this the right way to go? \\servername\share\UserID$ would map to \\servername\share\xxx or whatever the User's ID is.
Desktop Central clients on different subnets
Hi, we have a network which contains several subnets and we've defined an ip scope and a remote office in Desktop Central. There's only one Distribution server on the network and the the remote office is setup to use direct communication over https. When it comes to the http ports (8020 and 8383), do I need to open these ports from the server side and the client side or just the server side? Regards, Tony L
Adobe ShockWave Player 12.06 patch for Windows?
We're running Desktop Central 8 release 80296 -- I think that's the latest available. Patch / Vulnerability DB updates happen every night at 1800 (and I run it manually every morning, just to be sure). I see the Mac version of the Adobe ShockWave Player v12.06 dated November 28, and I see the template for creating a package to deploy Adobe ShockWave Player v12.06, but I don't see a Win version of the Adobe ShockWave Player v12.06 in the list of available patches. Any word on when it will be added
Problem with the way IE v11 shows up in Software Inventory
We're running Desktop Central 8 release 80296 (I think it's the latest available). I've used the templates to create a package for deploying IE v11 for Win 7 x64 (noticed that it was recommended we remove the command-line option that doesn't look for updates). Now I see that our workstations that have IE v11 installed, the software inventory displays it as "Windows Internet Explorer 9" with a version of 9.11.9600 (IE v10 shows up as "Windows Internet Explorer 10" with a version of 9.10.9200). Hi there Has anyone managed to deploy IE11 using Desktop Central? I am getting 'Unknown Error. Code : 40007' whenever it tries to install to a machine I am installing it with these switches IE11-Windows6.1-x64-en-us.exe /quiet /update-no /norestart Am I doing something wrong?

Folder shortcut
I am trying to push a folder shortcut to certain users' desktops. So far, I'm failing miserably. I am going to Configurations, User Configurations, Shortcut, and then defining the configuration. It actually does push a shortcut to the desktop, but it's doesn't work. "Web RAs" is the name of the folder I want the shortcut to point to. External IP address change for server
We have changed our ISP and as a result our external IP address has changed. I have changed the address in the NAT settings but there appears to be no way to change it on the Agent on the phones. I am unable to uninstall the app from a Droid Maxx. It tells mee i must deactivate the app because it is a device administrator but I don't see anyway to do that. It appears that the only option is to wipe the phone back to factory defaults. Help Mike
Uninstall Patches
I'm planning on setting up automatic patch deployment, but I'd like to have to ability to roll back or uninstall a patch across the board if it is causing problems. There doesn't seem to be an "uninstall" option when looking at installed patches. Is there a way to do this? Thanks Candi
MS Patch KB2861193 - False Positive
Hi, A few of our machines are scanned in DC and apparently missing patch KB2861193 - However, this patch is not for the machines. The machines scanned are Windows 7 SP 1 and the details from the MS website say the patch is applicable to .Net 4.5 on Vista SP2 and Svr 2008 SP 2 only >> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2861193 Is there anything I can do to remove this patch from DC so it doesn't show a false positive?

Links not working in File Folder Operation window
Hi, I am trying to use desktop central for copying, moving, renaming files in various files in the managed computers. But the problem I am experiencing is that the links in the File Folder Operation window are not working for me. In step 2, ie Define Configuration, I cannot move to tabs "Rename", "Move" and "Delete" from the tab "Copy". The button "Add More File/Folder" in step 2 is also not functioning. I am not able to save the configuration as the "Save As Draft" button is not working. Kindly

Desktop Central Remote Contol across countries
Hi All, i would like some information on the best way to setup DesktopCentral for use in different countries. currently we have one central DesktopCentral server with multiple distribution servers. the main DC server is in the UK so when the guys in the USA are starting a remote connection to a clients machine the connection is started from the UK DC server so the remote connection is very slow. can i setup a USA server for DesktopCentral or is there a way for the remote connections to connect
Feature Request: OU picker and displaying time
We just switched to DC for our patching needs. I wanted to recommend two quick (and hopefully easy) changes that would greatly enhance the product! First - display the server time on all the pages, not just when you're scheduling a configuration. Deployed configurations not updated with newly added members in AD group
Hi, when we've deployed an application for an AD group and the membership is changed (a new user is added to the group) the new user does not get the application, we have to update the configuration and once again add the AD group. Is there a way to change this setting? Regards, Tony L

I need to deploy a desktop shortcut to a mapped drive to all user desktops. I don't see the place it Desktop Central to create this. I can create a shortcut to launch a program or an Internet shortcut, but not a shortcut to a mapped drive. Please advise.

Remote shutdown - adjust machine list automatically based on domain
It would be useful to be able to schedule remote shutdown by domain. For example, in patch management, you can just select the domain, and the included machine list automatically changes based on the scope of management as machines are added or removed. Similar functionality would be useful with scheduled remote shutdown so that you could select one or more domains and then exclude specific machines if necessary. Report of systems without software installed
Is it possible to create a report to list systems WITHOUT specific software installed? When I try this using 'not like', it simply lists every audited software item that does not match (dozens per system) - vs only systems that don't have that specific software product installed.

Migrating from one SQL server to another
I couldn't find information on how to migrate from one MSSQL server to another. I was tasked with moving the server along with the MESD server to a new host and MSSQL server. Shared Network printer for computers in AD Group.
Is it possible to setup a shared network printer for computers in an Active Directory Group ? We would like to assign the printers to the computers instead of users. HP warranty lookup not working on 80279
I've found that after updating to version 80279, the HP warranty lookup is still not working (despite being in the release notes). This is because the agent is not gathering the HP part number, only the service tag. Both are needed to query the warranty. If I manually enter the part number, it works fine after refreshing the page. I have rescanned HP computers with the current agent version and this data is not being picked up. Hi here my ideas for MDM: - In the Devices windows have an icon that show you what device is currently online and offline - I tried remotely wipe and I noticed that If the device is offline,the wipe return a timeout error. Is it possible to add the feature that when I run a wipe and the device is offline the wipe remains in pending until the devices comes up?
