Disable user configuration (software deployment) on a group of desktops
Hi, I would like to disable user configuration to apply to certain computers (when users logon on a different one). Our situation: We got a group of laptop users who needs local software, but when this users logs on a desktop at the office I don't want that software to be installed on that desktop. All of these systems are Windows 7 and on the same ip subnet, but on different OU. When I create a Software Deployment Configuration for a (AD) group of users I cann't exclude a specific computer OU. Crashplan Pro.e Remote Full Install for Active Directory
I'm trying to figure out a way to remote install Crashplan Pro E using the desktop central software deployment feature. We currently run an Active Directory which Crashplan already ties into and reads. Currently if you deploy Crashplan remotely, the user computer pops a notification that requires you to sign in using the users AD credentials which has to be done by hand. I have looked through Crashplan documentation and have been unable to find anything that would help me. I have also searched Google

Applying Configurations for Secure USB....bizarre behavior
I am not sure if this is normal or not....but this is what we are seeing: We apply a computer based configuration which restricts USB and CD-ROM drives. Once applied, this works perfectly. Later, we decide that this PC should be allowed to have CD-ROM access, so I remove the PC from the configuration used to block access. Then I add the PC to another configuration which explicitely permits CDROM, but still blocks USB (because we do not want to allow USB). Upon machine reboot the machine still

Secure USB and RoadWarriors
Hi all. I am testing DesktopCentral and i need some info about secure usb. Is there any way to enable USB Devices when a user is not at my company network? (users that have laptop for both personal/company use lets say) I tried with a script that checks if the domain controllers respond to ping, and if they don't, it stops the DesktopCentral service, but it didn't work probably because the agent makes registry changes. Deploying user configuration instead of computer configuration is not an option.

Have a Computer Configurations option to move the computer to a different Active Directory OU
You have a good list of Computer configuration actions but one that is missing that we would use is the action of moving the computer to a difference AD Organisational Unit. When we add a new computer to our Domain it is added into a "Build" OU and we have Desktop Central set to auto install the agent to computers in this OU and we have a configuration targeting this OU which installs a few bits of software. We then manually move the computers to the correct OU after the configuration has applied,

VMWare ESX 5.1 crash
Has anyone else experienced a crash (PSOD) of an ESXi 5.1 host when installing the Desktop Central agent onto a virtual machine? I have had this happen twice. First instance was when installing to a Windows 8.1 Enterprise/x64 VM - within 30 seconds of pushing the agent to the VM, the host crashed with a PSOD. Next instance (8 days later) was when installing to a Server 2012 Std (x64) VM - again with 30 seconds of pushing the agent to the VM, the host crashed again with a PSOD. The host has been

MSI software deployment have the option to browse and associate an MST file
I know you can specify an msi transforms file (mst file) using the "MSIEXEC/EXE/ISS/Command" option within Software Deployment but to me it would seem a slicker solution if when you have the package type set as MSI you had the optional option to browse and associate a MST file. We use mst file with for most of our msi installers to customise the setup so at the moment we don't really set the package type to MSI that much instead we currently use the MSIEXEC/EXE/ISS/Command package type and specify

Desktop Central Agent for Windows RT tablets
Hello, Are there plans in the pipeline to port the agent to Windows RT? Our organization is planning to use RT Tablets (yeah, I know) in certain situations, and being able to manage them (and especially, remote control them) from within Desktop Central would be awesome. Best Regards Neil

Possible to configure Desktop Central managed workstations to download patches from WSUS server?
Hello, My apologies if my questions are clearly documented somewhere already: upon research, I have yet to discover the answers. I am new to Desktop Central and newly managing a Windows 2003 AD domain with GPOs defined for WSUS (prior to implementation of Desktop Central) and using Desktop Central 8 to manage workstation patches. Websense shows multiple instances of Desktop Central managed workstations to visit www.download.windowsupdates.com, some up to 1200x logged instances in a two week period.
How to test DC Agent ICON in System Tray
We are thinking of turning on the Agent Icon in the System Tray (currently it is off) and we want to test the features of the agent. For example, we want to make sure the user cannot disable DC via the Agent (we think not but need to test). We also need to develop a few documents to educate our users on the DC Icon since they have not seen it and what they can do (and how to do it). To that end, we prefer to be able to turn this feature on for a specific remote office but we do not see how to do
Deploy software from results of query
Hi, Is there a way to run a query of workstations that have version x of software and then deploy version y to that group of workstations? For example, I would like to run a query of workstations that have a version less than 4.0.7577.4409 of Microsoft Lync. Once I get the list of workstations that have that old version I would like to deploy the current version to those workstations. Thank you, -dennis
Quick launch box
Hi, I would like to make a software change request, would it be possible to either be able to close the quick launch box when connected to a machine, or to have a button to call up the quick launch box when required. It is very frustrating to have to move this around when working on a remote machine. Thanks. Geoff.
Pause scheduled shutdown
It would be useful to be able to pause a scheduled shutdown. For example, when I need to leave the computers on for unscheduled troubleshooting, I have to delete the scheduled shutdown and then readd it so that the computers won't shut down. Therefore I have to redo the entire configuration: machine list, time/date, etc. Would it be possible to add a pause option as is available on scheduled configurations?
Remove workgroup names from DC server list
We need to do some cleanup of the workgroup/domain names that are associated with Remote Offices. We have one remote office that we use to setup, check for patches, and configure new workstations. This remote office is called: AIT Cost Share Setup PCs typically are setup in the workgroup "WORKGROUP" and after DC reports that they have all software and patches, we change the workgroup name to one that matches the workgroup name that is used at the remote office. The PC is then moved to the remote
Change workgroup name via script on a PC
I need to create a computer script that I can use to change the workgroup name on a PC and make the script flexible so it can be used for different workgroup names. I need to be able to specify the workgroup name when I create the task and it appears the DC Script Argument field is the place to do this. FYI...We have no AD joined workstations. I can execute this command below change the workgroup name to "GRAY-EXT". The workgroup name change requires a reboot but that is straightforward and I

Why is drive B not available to map? B is never used anymore and I need to map it. Is there any way around this?
Desktop Central
I want to apply restrictions to the desktop for local users or local groups logging on to a server, but not for the domain users. Does Desktop Central have the abililty to distinguish this? Thx, Ben
