Change Detection Problem
Hi I'm running into a problem where changes aren't being backed up in real time. I'm using the latest revision i.e 4300 of device expert and configured with "Real-time Change Detection" enabled for my device which is a Cisco 3725 router on IOS 12.3(5d). I'm currently using the connection profile "Telnet - TFTP" to interact with the router. Any ideas why this isn't working, and how to make it work? Thanks Dan
Vlan Database Backup
Hi I can't see anywhere on device expert where you can backup the vlan database for each switch. Could someone please tell me if its possible and if so then how? A feature I really need is ldap or domain authentication, so I can link it to our active directory servers. I see you have it in service desk, can it not be quickly ported to device expert? Thanks in advance Dan
Device Expert license and resale?
I need to speak with someone at Manage Engine about Device Expert 100 node license and potential resale. I had previously spoke to agerald@adventnet.com but the e-mail keeps bouncing back. Regards, Jim Smith 949-338-6949
2 Network Cards
Hi, I've 2 network devices, one is for access local network and my router and the other is used for vpn. When i try to backup my router device expert uses the vpn address. how can i change the address?? thanks in advance.
Standard Configurations
I've searched but have not found whether or not it is possible to create a standard configuration so that a new device can be powered on with minimal configuration (IP, etc) and then have the real configuration be pushed from DeviceExpert. Variables in the configuration would be nice for device specific details (IP, default gateway are two that come to mind) Thanks
eval deviceexpert but when scheduling a config backup fails
i have a bunch of cisco switches that i've loaded up into the eval and i'm trying to schedule config backups on an hourly basis. However consistently it's failing the majority of the switches. I've put it into debug mode and am submitting the log files after the most recent attempt it made.
User Management
Hi, Is there a solution when you have mutiple Administrators, to not have an email generated to ALL administrators each time an operator is asking for a change ? Like administrators subscribing to a group of devices for example ? regards, Jean-Christophe Mazoyer

Copying Running to Startup on Cisco 3548XL
I have found the "Copy Running to Startup" function executed via the button from the Devices with Startup-Running Conflict screen rarely succeeds as intended. I am attempting to do this on a number of platforms. Each of their errors are below. ONLY the errored sections are displayed in this post. 3548XL ------------------------------------------------- Entered into the enable login mode successfully. copy startup-config tftp %Error opening nvram:copy (No such file or directory) 3548_switchname# -------------------------------------------------
Mass-editing features needed
I just added in 45 various models of Cisco switches, firewalls, and access points to my DeviceExpert and had to manually, device by device, click through the inventory tab and associate each individual device to the same "Change Management" policy. This needs to be added to the "More Actions" options on the inventory tab so that you can select a list of devices as "Associate Change Management Policy". Also, when I'm viewing the details of the Change Management Policy - there should be an "Associate
Custom template - Banner MOTD failed
I created a configuration template to deploy a BANNER MOTD to my devices. After defining this template, I deployed to 2 devices. DeviceExpert states, "2 out of 2 device(s) executed successfully." This is not true. Errors were detected all throughout the script. If you view Execution Output you will find: Entered into the enable login mode successfully. banner motd ^ !!!! 11898 bytes copied in 4.244 secs (2803 bytes/sec) sw06#banner motd ^ ^ % Invalid input detected at '^' marker. sw06#** % Unknown

Cannot telnet from GUI
When I click on the "Telnet" link within the device inventory for a device, a "Unable to Connect" reports on the top of the window. All devices.
Multiple issues on config change/backup
I added 15 Cisco switches to the inventory yesterday, after much issues in getting the discovery process to work. Application would never actually initiate the discovery process. Eventually, I got all machines added in one by one. I selected all machines and kicked off a "Back up". Then I selected all machines and kicked off a "Enable Change Detection". I left the Firefox browser window open overnight. When I returned to my PC in the morning to see that Firefox 2.0.0.6 was eating up over a 1 million
Hardware properties wrong on Cisco 1130AG
I have only added one of our Cisco Access Points to the inventory and under General Properties, the Series and Model are both being reported as "1100". This device is an 1130AG. The "Show version" information from the device states: "Product/Model Number : AIR-AP1131AG-A-K9" Why "AIR-AP1131AG-A-K9" is not being reported in the MODEL section of General Properties is my first issue. Under Chassis Details, the following is being reported: Processor Board ID : ap01-rc30 "ap01-rc30" is the configured

How does Devices with Startup-Running Conflict actually work
I have several devices listed in the "Devices with Startup-Running Conflict" screen. I manually telnetted and wrote the configuration to one of the devices over an hour ago. It is still being listed in the list of equipment with different start-up/running configurations. How is list of device populated? I believe the Cisco Wireless Access points will always be listed as the self-signed certificates within the configuration are textually changed EACH time the configuration is written to memory. Other

Configuration backup schedule needs notif options
The "All Schedules", when creating a daily configuration backup schedule, only has the option to enable email notification. Additional options are needed. For example, I only want to receive email notification IF a running and/or start-up config has changed. I don't want the system to bother me with emails if "nothing has changed".

Configuration Snapshot and Sync Configurations
I noticed when you configure the DeviceExpert application to enable "Real-time Change Detection", it doesn't actually write the changes that are made to actually enable this feature to the start-up config. This was noticed in the HOME screen, " Configuration Conflict Snapshot" table. I selected three switches I am demoing with the product and chose, "Copy running to start-up". The DeviceExpect failed to do this. Log below. ---------- copy startup-config tftp Login OK ** sw06#copy startup-config tftp
The following Device(s) do not support Config Detection
The "The following Device(s) do not support Configuration Detection through Syslog" status is being reported for every Cisco device I've added to the DeviceExpert application, even though this is not true. This is being reported on new Cisco WS-C3560G-24TS, etc. Anyone experience this issue?
What version of ssh does device expert use?
I am trying to get ssh-tftp to work with Netscreen 5gts,25, 50 & 208's. Won't work. I love the product but we need to use ssh to get configs back and forth. Can someone advise A) Is it working and I am messing up. (Highly unlikely or B)It doesn't work and someone canupgrade it and let me know when the release is out. Thanks, Scott

IOS deployment with device expert and other question
Hello, I am interesting to get device expert for my company. I have tried it on some cisco devices and it seems to be in accordance with what I wanted. My question are: 1 - Is it possible to deploy a new IOS image to multiple devices, I think it is possible to script it but to you have an idea of the script. You should add it to default script. 2 - When you make a draft configuration and upload it to the device, change seems to be applied immediatly. Is it possible to upload the configuration to

Looking for a simple way to rotate device passwords?
Hi, Are you looking for a simple way to rotate device passwords? DeviceExpert offers a simple way to do this. You can use the command line script execution feature of DeviceExpert. This feature helps in executing CLI commands on devices in user-defined sequence. It is useful in automating repetitive and time-consuming operations on devices. Firewall Backup Failed
Hi, I currently evaluating device expert. I tried using it to backup our Cisco ASA FW and it works. The problem is when I'm using it to backup the config of our Cisco PIX 525, I can't see any configs. I've noticed that it uses the "show startup-config" for backup. The Cisco PIX does not support that command. How do I edit this to use "show config" instead of "show startup-config?" Thanks
Switch SW3 inside Nortel Baystack 470-48T Switch
Does anyone know if the switch (labeled SW3) inside a Nortel Baystack 470-48T, will set the unit back to factory defaults? When I press the switch with power on, it does reset the switch, but I am not sure if it is setting it back to factory default. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
