Lost!
Hello, I'm a bit lost here with opmanager I have used many monitoring software but this one has me beat. It looks like the only way I can add a server is using the discovery tool which will scan all 250 machines on my network and add them to the software when I just only want to add 2 servers. Is there a place where I can just go and manually add the server name, IP address and the services I wish to monitor without going and scanning, and removing all of the extra machines. Thanks, Willy
What is the meaning of "Memory Utilization" in Opm
How opmanager define "Memory Utilization"? It seems much difference between opmanager's "Memory Utilization" and that get from "Task Manager", is there any connection between them? and how opmanager get "Memory Utilization" value? Thanks
Bug? Alarm Escalation Rules
In the Alarm Escalation Rules editor, the category have server, printer, switch, router & any. Miss matching the category provided in "Infrastructure Views" ( Servers, Routers, Firewalls, Switches,Printers, Desktops, URL) which is the default container for admin to add devices. Thus it is a bug. In general/to be consistent, the category should contain items in every view provided by OpManger. That is, it should have items listed under Infrastructure Views, Business Views, and Network Views. Especially
Bulk Changes or Rule Implementation
We are running the eval currently and I have a couple of quick questions: 1. Under Quick Configuration Wizard, I would like to catagorize more than just Desktops and Servers from that screen. I have routers and switches being added as workstations and SNMP is enabled and working for those Routers and Switches. 2. Where can I find additional icons for brands? snmp traps to opmanager
hello, I have a netscreen security manager product running on the same box as opmanager. I have setup for events to send an snmp alert to the local box and alerts are supposedly sent from the nsm to snmp ip. Problem is that I don't see those snmp events within opmanager - what do I have to do to receive these alerts? do I need to start snmp on the local box as well as snmp trap daemon? Naynesh

Issues with Discovery of Routers.
When I tell Opmanager to Discover a Device. In this case a Cisco router. I tell it to discover the IP address that I am wanting to be the routers IP address that opmanager uses to manage it with and the SNMP string like always. However even though the web front end says that its discovered the fact is that it does not ever get into the database because part of the discovery process tells Opmanager to query the IP networks of all interfaces of Routers to help populate the world with those networks.
Using tunnels +Cisco/Netopias and openswan for remote admin
Hi All Just sorting out whether or not this tool is able to do what i need. I have several smallish lans behind nat/firewall routers. (cisco and netopia). i wish to create tunnels to my linux server (using openswan) and then manage the systems inside the nat/firewall with snmp and discovery etc via the tunnels. i do not want to open ports on the routers - as i want to manage them with snmp... and besides there are too many devices inside. is anyone doing this. so 192.168.25.0/24 <> internet IP <>
receving phantom downtime
Hi I am running opmanager in parallel with the old monitoring system. Over the past 3 days, we have had 2 bogus alerts generated for servers being down, for 3-7 minutes at a time. One was for server not responding (icmp) and the other for a port not being available. Investigation of the old monitoring system, which is icmp based, shows that teh server was available during the time were opmanager said the device was offline, and there was no user interruption to correspond with opmanagers reported

Hi, It is still me! The new problem is: Before, my PC with Opmanager was on a hub with very bad time. I have it to connect to a switch. My PING on the servers is spent of 500ms in 5ms. The board always shows time of 400ms while in the page device it is OK in 5ms (for 24h). It has been 1 week since I changed. Regards. Olivier
Switch Rediscovery
Hi, In the Switch category. During the rediscovery, Device loses its name. Always in the same category, when we delete monitors (Traffic Monitors) they return with the rediscovery. Some we cannot delete of them (Memory Utilization). I thought that it was caused by my Cisco Catalyst 2970G-24 that I created in new type but it also makes it with my CoreBuilder which is already in the list of the types 3COM. Regards. Olivier

Display the "Dashboard" from the homepage on a big
Hi! I would like to display the dashboard with "infrastructure snapshot" and "Alarm Graph" from the homepage on a plasmascreen or projector. This would require an URL to a page that don't need a login, and that would display only the wanted content - no hyperlinks etc. Is there such a feature, or do you have any plans to program it? removing proxy server settings
Hi I had the URL tests in opmanager going via a http proxy, but now I have a direct NAT rule for the server so that a proxy is not needed. However I can not remove the proxy settings! When i blank out the server/port/username/password fields and attempt to save, it pops up a box saying that i need to enter the details to save. Can you please advise how to remove the proxy settings Thanks David
bulk removing monitors or notification profiles
Hi It is easy to bulk add monitors and notification profiles to devices through the quick config wizard. However, removing notification profiles and monitors from a bunch of devices does not seem to be so easy - is there a faster way to remove these from devices besides editing each device? Thanks Dave
request for new functionality
Enhancement request: What I always miss looking at network management systems is the ability to rate alarms by there impact to business functionality and affected users. Let me give an Example. I receive an alarm that the server �xwz� is down, this is nice, but only a small number of people from the IT department know that this server is the print server for the warehouse and no delivery notes can be printed, witch has a large impact to the business. I want to monitor text log files as follows: On the occurrence of a given pattern in a log file, I want a trap or email to be sent with the matching line. Can OpManager do this ? If not, do you know if Application Manager can do it ?

CUSTOM MONITOR... just a ping !!
Hi. I need to make a custom monitor but I don't know how. The only thing I want it to do is to make 3 pings to my router, and to return an alert if two of them did not respond. So far I've made a few monitors using "icmpOutEchos" (.1.3.6.1.2.1.5.21) as OID but it did not work very fine. can anybody help me? thanks

We have a question about SNMP trap processors : will it be possible in a future release to import TRAP processors directly from a MIB file ? set ping timeout
Hi I want the ping timeout to devices to be greater than the current (its currently about 1000ms) as some devices are on small 128k pipes that sometimes get to 1500ms RTD, which triggers a false "down" alert. I can find a place to change snmp timeouts but not icmp... can this be achieved? Thanks Dave
bug / non working feature - adding resource monitors
Hi I have been re-configuring opmanager on a new server, and have found that when applying the "disk space used in gb" resource monitor to multiple machines, it does not allow you to specify which drives to monitor this means that there is never any data returned. all our servers have the same drive config, and the only way to get it to report is to go into each server manually and add the resource monitor with the specific drives...quite annoying when you have to do it to 50 servers! is there any
Business View adding Issues.
Im seeming to have issues viewin Business Views that Im adding to the system. I also notice the following error messages in the stderr file... can someone shed some light on this? Also I notice that when I add a Business group shortcut to another Business View that has a router on it. I cannot link an interface from the Router to the Shortcut (network). Notifications not being sent
I have the notifications set up and have tested the email server settings. I get the test emails but when there is an alarm on a server I do not get an email notifying me of the alarm. There is no error in the Notification event log. I saw a post about this that was made last year but the question was never answered. What do I need to do to get notifications working. Paul

DC security log
Hi I monitor the event logs on all my server with event log monitor and notification profile. It works on all of them but the logon logoff doesn't work on my 3 DC.It works for the other but not them. Do you have an answer??? Thanks
E-mail notification
Is there any way to have the email notifications repeat on a timed basis until an alert is either cleared or acknowledged? This would be useful for afterhours support for an unmanned datacenter. A single alert to an email account or sms messages can be overlooked, but not if it happens say every 5 minutes.

Monitoring Scheduled Tasks?
Was just thinking tonight that we have a few scheduled tasks which run, and usually we find out they didnt when we have 500+ users complaining. Just wondering if/how it is possible to monitor scheduled tasks for success using OpManager I am guessing it writes something to the event log when the job completes or fails and you could check for this event? I have never really looked into it.
