How to test tcp port when ping not allowed ?
Hello, I'm testing opmanager now. My problem : The ping ( icmp protocol) is not allowed on my network due to firewall restrictions. So OpManager detects all my servers down ! How to force opmanager to test only on tcp port for services which has been detected on the discovery ? ( SMTP, POP....) Thanks for answers. Christophe Dumonet, from France.

URL monitor - alert only if available
We have a web content filter that I'd like to ensure is blocking inappropriate websites, so I'd like to configure a URL monitor to only alert if a given URL is available. Create a Trap for the Unknown
Is it possible to create a generic trap which basically will allow OpManager to send alerts for traps which may not be specifically known by it? I'm running into the issue where if OpManager doesn't specifically have the trap in the "SNMP Trap Processors" section, it won't even acknowledge it when it fires. I was wondering if there was a way to create a 'unknown' trap which could go at the end of the trap.parsers file so all unknown traps would trigger. Thanks!

Missed Polls
Every now and then we get a device that misses a poll, but the device does not actually go down. How can we configure OpManager to not register the device as being down unless it misses consecutive polls?

Has anyone successfully created device templates for ESX? I am trying to import MIBs from ESX but I keep getting errors. Add Business View Name to Notification Message
Im using Op Manager 7 build 7004, and i have more than 100 business views (100 diferent locations). My problem is that all the names of my devices are the same, they are just in different locations, and when i get a notification about an alarm, i have no clue where it happened. Eg.: all my routers are called "cisco router", but one is in Business View A (location A) and another on Business View B (location B). If one router generates a notification, i get the following info: "Cisco Router is Offline"
Problem when running a Discovery on a subnet Version 7
Hi all, when I run the discovery for a complate subnet range, Opmanager just does nothing for hours, however when I do it for address range less then 20 it working fine. Is that a limitation of the demo version ?, I have not seen it documented anywhere.
Using v6 license with v7
Hi, I'd like to rebuild my OpManager 6 installtion from scratch with v7, but v7 won't swallow my v6 licence - it says "License Failed: ERROR CODE : 500". Is it possible to do this? Or do I have to wait for the v6->v7 migration pack? many thanks, alec
Flaky Cisco Interface monitors
I have setup SNMP v2 monitors on a dozen or so Cisco routers. On two of these routers I cannot seem to get reliable traffic reports on multiple interfaces. I have a Cisco 7206 an 7140 (both classified as Cisco 7000 series devices) with a half dozen or so active interfaces on each. On both 2 or 3 of the interfaces seem to work fine. However several others will show "NA" in the snapshot page. I have deleted an re-added these a couple times and it seems to be semi-random which interfaces have trouble.
Server stuck in Critical status
I have a Windows 2003 domain controller device that had a critical alarm. I opened the alarm from the Snapshot page for the server, cleared it, and closed out. Now the server still shows a critical status but the "Recent Alarms" section of the snapshot page it just has the red circle-X icon, with no text or hyperlink to go to an alarm. Choosing "Show Alarms" does not show any alarms for the server and choosing "Update Status" does not fix this. Does anyone know how I can get this server out of it's
Internet is down but OPManager doesn't recognise this.
We have a site that is currently experiencing internet problems. It appears as though the ADSL connection has gone down. Thankfully our frame relay link allows me to continue monitoring the PIX however OPManager is not showing any faults. The PIX is monitored and the external IP address is recognised in the interface however because the PIX doesn't see the interface as being down then OPManager is not showing any problems. I can't find anyway to monitor for when the external IP is not reachable thus
Demo Problems
Made a post yesterday as guest and it still has not been posted! So I registered to try and get this resolved. I am testing your software and I fiond it to be rather buggy! Rather than regurgitate what I have already posted, please activate my post from yesterday. Then name on the post was hhgregg. Summary of issues... Service Monitoring Scheduling
It's possible to monitoring Server Services in a specific time frame. For example between 8:00am and 6:00pm should be monitored and between 6:00pm and 8:00am no Alarms or no escalations to the pager. Otherwise how can i configure escalations of specific operational Critical Services.
OpManager7 stuck at Configuration completed when restart
OpManager won't restart again. Lost all views. Restarted OpManager. Shut everything down and did a repairdb and still won't restart. This is the second time this has happened, but on a completely different brand of server.
Active Direcotory values mostly N/A
I am attempting to setup the demo to monitor my two Windows 20003 domain controllers. However most of the counters graphs on the snapshot page show up as "N/A" 99% of the time. I say 99% because once or twice I've opened the page and they've all be populated, every single one. Does anyone know if OpManager version 6 is still available for download? I had demo'd it about 6 months ago during the research phase of or net admin project, and then I downloaded version 7 last night as we began the pilot phase of implementation. Since installing version 7 I have had many problems with devices monitors showing "NA" even when data is collected as well as not collecting data at all. HTML/Plain text email formatting
I've disabled the HTML option under the admin->notification rules section. But reps are still given the option to compose replies or forwards with HTML by default. This changes the templates we have configured for these sections. How do I force plan text for all email including reply, forward & solution entries?

Change Category Simultaneously to Several Unknown Devices
I have OpManager 7004 installed and i have several branches that have the same cisco 1800 router and the discovery found them but didnt categorize them correctly, they are categorized under "desktop - unknown". If i manually categorize them as cisco 1700 router, it works... the problem is that i have more than 100 routers scanned and doing this change one by one is a marathon! Is there a way that i can assign categories to multiple devices automaticaly? Thanks in advanced, Marcio
MSP Edition 6004 CPU Usage Monitor
One of my managed devices a Windows 2000 SP4 box reports 98% CPU usage all of the time. The value never changes, and the actual value is much less then that. Any ideas on how to correct this? Other monitors on that device work correctly.

How is MSSQL performance vs MySQL
I'm just now setting up the first couple of dozen devices in demo mode and I must say performance is SLOW. The dedicated server that opmanger is running on doesn't show any significat (<10% ) CPU utilization or spikes and has plenty of available memory. I'm wondering if switching from MySQL to MSSQL will significantly improve performance?

What are the options for monitoring a non-microsoft service? I understand that you can use WMI to monitor Microsoft services, and you can monitor services that listen on a particular TCP port. Is it possible to monitor a 3rd party service that doesn't listen on a TCP port? A customer of ours has some services running on their servers that they would like to monitor so they know when the services go down. What are my options for this? Thanks.

Hi, could someone please tell me how to adjust the displayed length of an interface in opmanager 7? having a list of switchport interfaces, **ALL** called "GigabitEther..." is insanely annoying and frsutrating... yet there appears to be no fix in any part of the (so called) admin section. I'm trialing the OpManager v7 and I found many problems in it. The biggest problem of all is, it is unable to identify whether is interface(i.e. switch port) is disabled or disconnected. Is there anyway to tweak OpManager so it can identify it more clearly?
Adding Cisco 871W routers in v7
Hi, I modified the Cisco 800 Device Template to include the device OID for a Cisco 871W. I then added one of these to OpManager, which appeared successfully - it's listed in the Router category. Hi, We are trying to evaluate ur product for our MSP. I installed 1 probe and opmanager MSP adition 6004. I have added a windows service to monitor. I have also configured the snmp service to send trap to probe. But I am not getting any trap or Alarm in the Opmanager when I stop the service. Similarly I wanted to know is it possible to do monitor a process in Linux or Unix systems? Can we get a trap? Where can I see the snmp traps coming to opmanger?? Regards YAsh
