Can't backup Cisco 2100 Wireless LAN Controllers?
Hi, I got a Cisco 2100 Wireless LAN Controllers that I'm not able to backup with Device Expert. It seems to send a bad command to the device: copy running-config tftp://xx.xx.xx.xx/913_ConfigFile.txt Incorrect usage. Use the '?' or key to list commands. (Cisco Controller) > I also add to re enable the telnet because SSH was going in timeout. Regards, Patrick Garnier.

Hi, I am using the registered copy. However, since we will offer configuration management service to our client, we need to customize the login page like the logos and some support messages from manageenginee, could you tell how to edit it? Thanks Raymond

Dell power connect 5324
I am having trouble getting the credentails setup correctly to use SSH-TFTP to backup a dell 5324 power connect switch using device expert. From the device expert host I can SSH to the dell switch but not through the automated backup. I am using login name: *** password: **** prompt: #

Failing Backups - Memory/CPU issue?
Frequently our scheduled backups fail or the navigation inside DE is slow or freezes. That happens mostly while the machine polls/backups configuration. I assume this could be a resource issue. Our copy of DE runs inside a virtual machine on an VMware ESX server and currently has a single CPU and 1024 MiB assigned. The parallel Job count is currently set to 20. Do you advice to add more RAM to the machine or maybe even another CPU? The load on my machine looks OK so far and the system yet has not

Get Configs from Nortel BayStack-Switches
Hi everybdoy, I'm trying to backup my config from a Nortel BayStack 380-24T. But I'm not pretty sure that I'm doing it the right way, because the backup always failes! Following Telnet-login-informations do I enter in DeviceExpert: Login name: <none> Password: <none> Prompt: > Enable Username: <none> Enable Password: <none> Enable Prompt: # Seems to be a little bit funny, but the switch is in a test-network, so I don't need any security-configurations. Any clue how to get my configs from the switch?
Access list bug?
Hi, I am evaluating DeviceExpert and have noticed that when uploading a configuration, all remarks in an access-list are moved to the bottom of the list, thereby making them useless.
Compliance rule to check interface level config
Is there a way to check certain settings in all the interfaces of each cisco routers? Example, we need to disable CDP run on each of the interface. By checking "no cdp run" will not able to meet the requirement as some interface may have "no CDP run" and some may not have. The challange here is the number of interfaces are different for each of the devices hence I cannot hardcode few lines of "no CDP run". Since DeviceExpert captured the number of interfaces in Inventory/Hardware Properties, is there
DeviceExpert Eval Fresh Install default Password Not Working
I just performed a fresh installation of DeviceExpert 5110 build for Linux on a Fedora Core 9 machine. When I attempt to login, DeviceExpert is saying invalid login/password. I checked to be sure everything was lowercase and tried several browsers including the elinks on the linux box. All have the same problem. Is there potentially a known issue with this new release?
DeviceExpert Build 5110 Released!

Highlights of the release: * Support for retrieving the configurations of Netscreen firewalls through SSH or TELNET without using TFTP * Switch Port Mapper: New functionality which identifies the list of devices connected to each port of the managed switch. This eliminates the need for manually maintaining a record on port details and connected devices. * Provision

Changing Device Type
Is there an easier way to change the configured Device Type? Example: 10.20.30.1 - 10.20.30.10 - Cisco IOS Router should be changed to Cisco IOS Switch. Currently i need to delete the device and import it with the desired setting. There has to be faster way. In best case it should get the job done in batch mode. Roble

Draft Upload
The reason I came across this problem is I was trying to upload an older version of the Running Config back to a switch and it was failing but I couldn't really tell why so I decided I would upload it as a draft which goes through and says it uploads fine but when I look at the running config on the switch it is still the old config. I am trying to do a test on reversing changes that were made to a running config. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. John
Upload Request
I don't know if it is or isn't supposed to do it but when I log in as an operator and then run a upload request is it supposed to send an email out so that the administrators know that there is an upload request? When the request is approved the user receives an email to say that it is approved but I don't see anything when the request is made. Question 2 is if an upload request can be scheduled to upload at a specific time instead of right after approved? John
Device discovery scripting
Hello everyone, we got a network with about 400 Nodes (Routers/Switches) in many different Subnets. But we got them under control by some selfmade Tools from which we can generate a list of addresses of the managed nodes. Is a possible to write some kind of script to import those devices to DeviceExpert? Or is it possible to start the device discovery process on a couple of networks as a scheduled task so that new devices are recognized by DeviceExpert. Even if the Device Credentials can't be added

Custom template - only first two line are executing
Folks, I have a custom template to change some of the config parameters on a cisco router. When I run it, DE reports successful execution, but when I look at execution report (and at actual config on the router), it looks like only the first lines are executing. The script is as follows: conf t ip flow-export destination 10.22.5.17 9996 ip flow-export source gi0/1 ip flow-export version 5 p flow-cache timeout active 1 ip flow-cache timeout inactive 15 end The execution report shows that DE correctly
Running Opmanager NetFlow and Device Expert on a single box
Folks, I've been a very happy owner of NetFlow for quite a while now. I've been testing OpManager and DeviceExpert, and ready to buy both products. So, I'd like to run all three apps from a single box, and have a few questions on how to do it. First, MySQL database. Since I already have mysql installed for Netflow, I'd like to continue using it for OpsManager and DeviceExpert. Could you post instructions on how to do it? BTW, what's the admin/default passwd for mysql in Netflow Install? Second, Tomcat.
DE incorrectly indicates start/run configs are in sync
I'm testing build 5100 with a few Cisco routers. On one router (a Cisco 1841) I know for certain that the startup and running configurations are not in sync, and can verify this on the router itself, however DE indicates that the startup and running device configurations are in sync. In fact, when viewing the current version of the running config in DE, it shows the startup config rather than the current running config. From my TACACS server here are the sequence of commands issued by DE when doing
DNS lookups on device addition
A related question has been asked before, but I'd basically like to know why DE displays the 'Host Name' in the inventory list as the PTR record for the device IP rather than the name I entered when adding the device. Is there any technical reason for this? This is very inconvenient because I need to add many devices where I do not control PTR records. So I would like to have the host name displayed exactly as it was entered rather than having DE display the result of a PTR lookup (which may or may

Backup cisco device through console server (serial line)
Hello, I'm evaluating DeviceExpert as a backup tool for our network devices. Some of our devices are only accessible throug a console server (serial line). When initiating a session to the device though the console server, first a carriage return must be entered before the username/password prompt of the device is given. When testing the credentials of the device in DeviceExpert, the following error is given: Unable to establish connection with the device. Check the validity of the following parameters
Feature Request: Compliance -> Special -Groups / -Drafts
The ability to apply policies for your devices is really key feature of this tool and it helps to automate a lot of issue involved in Security Health Checking a device pool. However a great feature would be that devices which are not compliant would be also available in an additional virtual Non-Compliant group. Devices in CiscoRouter Group that are not compliant are also featured in the temporary (until no more matching devices) NonCompliant-CiscoRouter-Group. The advantage of this would be that
Run various show commands against a device
I want to use DeviceExpert to run various show commands against a set of devices. All the devices are cisco and are different model numbers. After running the show commands I would like the output to be saved as text files with the name of the text file containing the version number, the name of the device and the date/timestamp that the file was created. I don't want a PDF like the option currently provides in the custom scripting section. Is there a way to do this and if so can you please specify
Use a different syslog server
Hi, I am evaluating Device Expert and I would like it to use a syslog server (kiwi) sitting on a different server. The reason for this is to avoid increasing the bandwidth usage for the syslog traffic. I suspect that it is possible as there is a "bind" option in the settings but I have not found how to do that. Can you help ? Thanks in advance
Slow web GUI from remote PC
Hi there, When we try to access DE web GUI from any remote PC in the same network segment, it is noticebly slower compared to accessing the web GUI from the server. There is no network restriction in place. On the same server, we also have OpManager and ServiceDesk Plus installed, and the remote access to their web GUI is very responsive. Any advice? Thanks! -Eddie
