DeviceExpert supports Syslog Forwarder
AdventNet ManageEngine DeviceExpert has been supporting syslog message processing and subsequent change detection for some time now. We have added support for syslog forwarder feature from the DeviceExpert 5110 release and it helps in managing the syslog message handling better.
How it helps manage the syslog message handling better?
In a complex and huge IT infrastructure environment, the syslog forwarder adds value in performance of message exchange between the DeviceExpert and the devices. Syslog Forwarder can be configured such a way that a group of devices send syslog messages to the forwarder and the forwarder can send those messages to DeviceExpert instead of all the devices sending the syslog messages to the DeviceExpert. Most of the syslog forwarder tools support various options to filter message at the forwarder level which can be configured to manage the huge message exchange.
How to work with Syslog Forwarder in DeviceExpert
DeviceExpert 5200 release provides an option in the web client to add and delete the forwarder ipaddress from the Admin tab (Admin --> Syslog Forwarder Settings). Users will be able to provide the ipaddress as comma separated values (i.e 192.168.112.106,192.168.112.132) .
After adding the appropriate forwarder ipaddress in DeviceExpert, you'll need to configure the DeviceExpert ipaddress and port in the forwarder to send the syslog messages to DeviceExpert. Once this is done, you can use the DeviceExpert web client to Enable / Disable the forwarder ip settings in the device through the Enable Syslog Change Detection screen.
