Backup Config on Avaya Media Gateway
When attempting to perform a backup config for an Avaya Media Gateway there is a prompt that needs to be handled that is preventing the backup from succeeding. I have attached a screen shot to illustrate the issue. Thanks, Joe
Can I schedule a compliance check by policy instead of the device?
I would like to schedule a policy check by the policy and not the device. We have several routers that need an ACL for a certain device. I was thinking we could have a policy check for this ACL. We have placed all these routers in a certain group called "voice routers". These routers are also in other groups with the routers that are in the same building so they have to be compliant with the rest of the building. When we schedule a compliance check we get two reports, one for the policy of
Switch port mapper
Why doesn't switch port mapper recognize ports with "switchport mode access" configuration enabled? I have few Cisco switches that have this configuration and Device Expert only scans and finds the trunk ports.

Automatic Update of Chassis Details?
It looks like DE is not able to collect Chassis Details for a lot of Cisco devices. It manages to take the backup and so forth but the info under the hardware properties tab are all blank. Is there a way to solve that? Update mib-files...? I also have the impression that I have to delete the device and add it again in order for DE to scan for Chassis Details. Is there a way to re-scan a device without deleting it? f.
DE and Nortel 5500 Switches
Hi, We have upgraded a number of our Nortel ERS 5500 switches to the latest firmware: 6.1 It looks like the script in DE needs to be updated to incorporate the addition of a Username to the logon process. Can someone in support look into this and produce a fix. Cheers.

What is logic by which DE judges if a change is authorised or not ? Regards

Feature Request - CISCO FWSM - Reporting - Tracking - Auditing
Hello, is it possible to get a new feature? My idea... In our company, we do add new access rules to the FWSM rule set only after a documented and reviewed change request. We do have a system were these changes are saved. But we do not have a system which tracks these changes to rules. What do we do now? We are writing a remark line followed by the referenced rule. But if we delete any rule, there will be no remark, why we did it. So now the question. Is it possible to establish a new function in
SNMP v3 not used when discovering new devices (Discovery)
Despite any SNMPv3 credentials and no matter what credential profile is selected in the selection-box in the Discover Devices screen, SNMPv3 is not used by DeviceExpert. tcpdump confirms that it only uses SNMPv1 communities (those known by snmpv1 credential profiles plus "public"). Devices which do not respond to v1/v2c cannot be discovered. Build 5310 Java Version :1.5.0_11-b03 OS Name :Linux OS Version :2.6.26-1-xen-amd64 OS Architecture :i386
Discovery fails to use SNMPv3 (Build 5319)
Device discovery (Inventory -> Add Device -> Discover -> IP, host, Range or List When I configure SNMPv3 credential profile (Username, empty context, MD5 auth, DES priv, auth password and priv key, this profile can be used to manage an already configured device. But device expert will not even try to use SNMPv3 to discover new devices, no matter what SNMP profile is configure/select. It will only try "public" and all other configured/known v1 community strings round-robin, but will consitently ignore

Timeout during backup of BlueCoat SG
I get timeout when I try to backup the configuration from a BlueCoat SG that is located on the other end of a slow WAN link. I have other BlueCoats that are closer to DE and there the backup operation works fine. Is there way to adjust the timeout values for the backup script?
Show configuration change VERY SLOW in 5310
Hi, I was happily evaluating DeviceExpert 5210 for a few weeks and everything worked fine for me. Then I decided to upgrade to v5310 which I did incrementally installing Upgrade Pack 5210 to 5300 first and then Upgrade Pack 5300 to 5310. Now I have version 5310 and when I open Configuration Change Trend Details windows and click on Show Changes link for a specific change it takes anywhere from 20 seconds to 2-3 minutes to open configuration change comparison window depending on the configuration
ERS 8600 - Passport 8600
Hi all, as the Nortel Router Switch 8600 Series - fka Passport 8600 - support is somewhat scant, I'd like to start a 'wishlist' for that special device. Currently, DeviceExpert collects just the config file. The device itself hast two config files: Bootconfig - which contains basic device and i/o-options, like loading 3des-modules, enables/disables sshd and telnet and so on Config itself - contains the device configuration like vlans, port settings... As DeviceExpert supports two config files for

manual change detection
Hi all, I currently have the problem that DeviceExpert does not support change detection on Nortel PassPort 8600: When trying to start ChangeDetection, I got an error: The following Device(s) do not support Configuration Detection through Syslog www.xxx.yyy.zzz So I have to perform a scheduled backup at a time in order to get notified about changes. However, I'm concerned about the fact that I will fill up the database with equal configs of the devices. On the other hand, I need to get informed about

Cisco Privilege Levels
Is there a way to setup a credential profile that uses a Cisco privilege level other than 15 for enable. In other words, is there a way to set the enable command to "enable 10", instead of just "enable" (which defaults to 15, the highest level). We want to be able to have DeviceExpert log into devices with SSH, but only have a restricted set of commands. In the Cisco IOS, this can be accomplished by assigning commands to a privilege level. Then the user types "enable [LEVEL]" (i.e. "enable 10" for
Delete Device History
Is there a way to delete the configuration history for a device without deleting the device? I want to delete all older configs and have the current config be the baseline... Thanks.
SSH Cisco
I am having troubles connecting to a Cisco 2811 router through SSH. I can connect just fine to the router through SSH using putty so I am not sure what to check next. Looking for some ideas. I am new to Device Expert and still feeling my way around. John Sys Admin

logging getting deleted automatically
There is some problem with enabling real time change detection. For two devices, whenever I enable the change detection through syslog, exactly after 4 days it automatically gets deleted from the router.
Foundry devices with firmware > 4.0
Hi, Right now I'am in a process of evaluating DeviceExpert and I've came across following problem - it is impossible to connect to Foundry devices using SSH. I need to configure Foundry device as CISCO switch and then SSH works but command syntax is incorrect so I can do nothing. When I try to connect using SSH to device configured as Foundry I get following exception: [16:16:53:361]|[11-10-2008]|[SYSOUT]|[INFO]|[15]|: com.adventnet.cli.transport.LoginException: Exception in login| [16:16:53:361]|[11-10-2008]|[SYSOUT]|[INFO]|[15]|:
DeviceExpert behind NAT
Hello, I'm testing DeviceExpert but i have a problem: it is installed on a linux server which has a private ip address (192.168.0.x). Then there is a Firewall NATting a public ip towards it. When DE sends commands to remote devices to retrieve configuration or do other commands, it sends the internal address instead of the public one, for instance: execute backup config tftp 305_ConfigFile.txt 192.168.0.x of course this doesn't work because the remote device cannot reach 192.168.0.x but it needs

Upgrade from 5300 to 5310 issue
Hello, I recently upgraded from version 5300 to 5310. After the upgrade I cannot get into the managment interface. It is still doing scheduled backups of configurations as it did before but I cannot get the administration interface to work. Unfortuatenly I did not create a duplicate of the directory before I did the last upgrade (poor decision on my part) but did have one from the previous upgrade. I rolled back to the previous version and did the upgrade path one more but still the same result.

Cisco IOS image TFTP via Device Expert
I am trying to deploy a new IOS image to several Device Groups with each Device Group containing ~ 20 routers. The problem I am having is that the transfer either times out or just seems to stop. Transfers work fine one device at a time. I have increased the timeout value now to 9900 seconds and increased the number of parallel jobs to 75. All of the routers are across an MPLS network mostly with 384K links. has anyone come across this problem or have a solution?
