Moving DC to another server
What are the steps involved with moving Desktop Central to another server? If we backup the data folder and paste that into the new server location, would that be enough? Will the clients recognize the new server location or will we have to re-install the agents? How will it affect our licenses? A step-by-step guide is very much appreciated. Thank you macintel
Patch push
I have set up a push of several major patches twice and both times have come and gone and the Configuration stays at "Ready to Execute" even 8 hours later. Any recommendations? Paul Singleton
Modify Desktop Central Agent Request to Helpdesk
We have are agents deployed but we want to modify the default value in the Send Request optoin for "from" to be just @ourdomain.com We also want to modify the Subject choices. Where and how can we do this? Thanks! Craig Debban
Feature request
Maybe Im missing something, but it would be really nice when hour adding machines in the scope to be able to see which ones are already in DC. That way I can go in there from time to time and quickly see/add any machines that were overlooked. Thanks
missing icons
I have alot of computers that have the agent installed, but I can't get the icon to show on the tray. I have check the install of the agent, to show icon. But even after reboots, still no icon on the client machine. I like to have this, so they can open a ticket with the helpdesk software we have from you. Mike

Asset Scanning
I'm getting a message on some of our computers when scanning saying: Asset scanning is locked. Contact support. Can anyone tell me what that means. Thanks.
Cant remove computers from scope
I have about 3 64bit OS computers that DC tried/did install when I was on version 6.1.16. I have now upgraded to 6.2, and I cannot remove the computers from the scope. If I try to "uninstall" them, I just get an error but their Agent Status stays as "installed successfully" so it never allows me to remove them. Also, 64bit support would be really nice......
Power Saving piece?
There is a big push to be able to schedule and manually shutdown equipment in recent times. So much so that there are rebates for organizations that buy software to shut computers down. Are there any plans for future development in the ability to turn workstations off either on a schedule or manually. If so, please pay attention to the requirements of the refunds from power companies so we might be able to receive rebates on your software. Thanks, Bill
Impossible deploy ultraedit msi package with DC.
Hi guys, I�m testing DC for my company but I can not deploy any package to clients. I want to deploy a ultraedit msi package, but always i obtein errors in code. Share folder are configured correctly to everyone and authenticated users with read permissions. Which is the code to launch this package correctly?? This package support msiexec options, in local machine works fine, but remote clients failed. Could you help me please? I�m desperate. Thanks in advance.

Error when Using Remote Control Function
Just trying this piece of software and we seem to have a reoccuring problem - every time we try and connect to a computer the remote PC comes up with an error message related to dcrdservice.exe.... both tested PC's are windows xp pro sp2 in a domain environment...Desktop central is on 6.0.0 build 60207 (loaded onto a windows 2003 server).... Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.... (we are using active x)
Install RealVNC
Could you please let me know what the correct syntax should be to push realvnc installs through DC? At this time it is a much faster option than the remote control client that comes with DC. Thank you! seandonnelly

Scheduling Disk Defrag
I've been trying to get the disk defrag feature to work for a couple of servers that are mixed between 2000 and 2003 Server with no luck. I have scheduled and run defrags on XP without issue. I'm pretty much leaving defaults through the wizard, but at the end it fails one time with the parameter is incorrect and another time with task scheduler is not running when it actually was? Any thoughts on this, and the account I am using is a domain admin acct.
Scope of management problem
Hi! I created scope of management group and named it NUD (Mining & Defence). Now, I can't delete this group from my SOM. IE shows error "Error while deleting!" How I can rename or delete this group? Thanks! Dmitry
Backups
Hi, I have program called Ahsay backup that can backup mysql directly with login and password to mysql and do versioning etc. I did see the post about scheduling the backupdb.bat file and backing that up. That would be fine also but would like a way to make the end file the same, that way my backup software can do the versioning for me and I wouldnt be using tons disk space by having a new backup name every night. DC Agent Issues
I am having an issue where the most recent agents I have installed on through Desktop Central SoM are not being classified as Local Office. The agents are installed but are not associated with an office, and so when I create configs for example they never get applied. DC Doesn't Work - Buyer Beware
1. DC will not install simple .exe files 2. DC will not uninstall patches 3. DC will not install patches that require a patch to be uninstalled 4. Tech support will not resolve your problems and call you back I've been working with AdventNet support for three weeks to get three simple issues resolves to no resolution. Over the past 24 hours I've had to manually perform the tasks that DC should be able to handle. You would be better off with another product as this one does not work!!!!
Legal Warning Does not get applied to 2003 Servers
I pushed out a legal logon warning to my servers, which worked fine for Windows 2000 Servers. For my 2003 servers it will not apply though it says successfully applied? I'm having to go into local security policy and put the warning in that way? Any thoughts on why this is the case?
secure communication
We need to be able to use SSL between the server and all clients on the LAN and the WAN. I see in the documentation that I can add that for WAN clients, but need to know if we can do this for the LAN. Thanks in advance. Mark Krysinski
IE7 Process 100%
When I run Desktop Central 6 from the IE7 web browser I occasionally have a problem with it making the IE7 process 100% which makes everything run very slow. I usually have to kill the process and log back into DC6. My system is 2.4ghz 1GB Ram. Any ideas? Most of our systems are 2.6ghz and higher with atleast 1GB Ram. Jamie IT
server -> client communication fail
Just installed Desktop Central to test it in a vista home environment. As such only workgroup configuration is possible. I have submitted support ticket a few days ago but I hope someone can point me in right direction until I get feedback. I simply can not get Desktop Central to work. Installation of clients is fine but all server -> client initiated communication is not working so no remote desktop, no inventory scan and no package deployment. However all services work fine if initiated from client.

Microsoft Office license report
We have 4 different versions of Office 2003 that are all Office 2003 Professional. I really want it to report how many licenses we have total so we grouped it into a Microsoft Office 2003 Group. It doesn't report it that way, we have 4 different versions that it reports: 11.0.5614.0, 11.0.6361.0, 11.0.7969.0, 11.0.8173.0 . Is there a way we can just have it show version 11.0 and give us a grand total or take the reports from the custom groups we create? Thanks. Jamie IT

Bad 'Missing patches' with French version
Hi, I'm testing Desktop Central which was recommanded by a friend but I've a few trouble with it. Many computers are tagged as critical because of missing patches. But according to Microsoft Update web site, all patches are applied. For example on virtual machine (under VMWare ESXi) where Kaspersky Admin kit is running : MS08-031 IE7-WindowsXP-KB950759-x86-ENU.exe MS08-032 WindowsXP-KB950760-x86-ENU.exe Some of those under 2003 Std R2 : MS07-056 WindowsServer2003-SP2-KB941202-x86-ENU.exe MS08-021
editing domain credential
I have setup a new Desktop Install. First step defined the SOM. I have 3 remote locations configured. I have manualy deployed the agent by logging in from the remote location. My question is to do with adding Domain credentials. As I am monitoring remote sites, how do I do this. I have tried a VPN connection the site, then adding credentilals but it fails. Hi, I've got few problems with Desktop Central under Windows French version. First of all : On remote desktop session, I can't 'Scan and Upload Patch details'. Oprating System Deployment
Does desktop central do "bare metal deployment"? is there any plans to implement this? We are testing this product in conjunction with Service Desk plus, and we like to look of it so far, but apparent the lack of operating system imaging and deployment may be a deal breaker for us.

I can't get any patches to install
I can't seem to get anything to install. Now I'm getting "The wait timed out" when installing MS Office SP3. I also can't install Windows Installer 4.5. I received your post on the command.
