order of collection wizard
i have a process i want to run on our PCs. I want to first send a message box that will say we are going to update a program. then if that program is running kill the process and then copy a file that is running. If i build a collection i can choose custom script, file and folder operation and message box. It seems to always put the custom script first but i want it to be second and wait 60 seconds before it copies the file. Thanks
manage desktop clients in DMZ
I have a number of servers in my DMZ whcih are not part of my AD domain. these are webservers that are vm guests on a hyper-v host. Well i wonder if Desktop central to manage these servers? If so what are the ports we need to open for secure communication and whichdirection? Since these servers are non AD members what setting should i use for the agent? Thanks.
Feature request/enhancement: Manage DC Agent Settings by groups...
Hi, I would like to be able to have the DC Agent behave differently according to the different types of system on which it is installed. i.e. On office bound desktops I don't want users to interact with DC at all, so I don't want the agent tray icon to be displayed. However, for laptop users and servers, it would be more useful to have the agent tray icon displayed. Is this currently possible? If not then please add it as a feature request/enhancement for the product. Thanks, David.

Lets say; first I'm looking for two software, its enough if one of them is present, but then looking for a third one which is mandatory. I need to run a report that shows all of our workstations and their warranty info. I need the following columns: System Name, Remote Office, Operating system, Manufacturer, Model, Warranty info, and OU the system is located. We have our systems in OUs by department. Is it possible to setup the email server for email notifications if you have a pop based hosted email? Or is it only for local exchange servers? I've tried my comcast server, etc but the following when i hit ok or test email Failed to apply Mail server configuration.

Can't see version #'s of grouped software in Inventory
I need to group my Nitro Pro software into a group so that I can manage the license reporting feature. However, when I search for Nitro Pro installations in Inventory, it just returns 'Nitro Pro Group' and says 14 installation. When I drill down, it lists what 14 machines have it, but not the version number on each machine. 'Version' is not avail in the column selector either. I need to determine which users are not on the latest version. Seems like an oversight to me.

Warranty Scan process questions and suggestion for future release.
Does the warranty scanning take place during the inventory scanning? If so, may I suggest that this be a seperate user scheduable task? From what I've seen, typically the most important information for warranty scan is gathered at the time that the agent is installed on the computer (it grabs the serial and model number of the computer). Typically this does not change. In my mind, the warranty scan tasks should be something that is scheduled for off prime hours, and only communicates back and forth
Inventory Process never finishes
Since patch level 80251 and after 80260 patch for Desktop Central, I am not able to get the inventory summary to finish. the only way to stop this is to restart the Desktop Central Service on the server. I've stopped all scheduled Inventory Scans and it is still doing the same thing. Is anyone else having this issue and is there a fix?

IPv6 and Wake on LAN
Using Desktop Central with Windows 7 Pro client PCs. I'm having a problem with the Wake on LAN feature. It appears that DC is detecting both the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of the PCs, and displays them both on the WOL page. The "Broadcast address" is left blank. When trying to wake a PC the resultant error message is "IP, MAC or Broadcast entry not valid". I can manually change the IP address, deleting the IPv6 address in DC, and adding the broadcast address, and then it will wake the PC. However,

Automated Patching Failed
Last night, none of our machines scheduled were patched. The error is "No missing patches found". All of those machines are missing patches and show up in the Highly Vulnerable category. Those patches have all been approved. If I click the PC name under the patch scanning task, it doesn't show any missing patches. But if I click the PC name under the All Managed Systems category it lists all of the missing patches that came out on Patch Tuesday. Why did this fail and how can we resolve this?
Is there a way to check a desktop compliance?
We currently use Altiris and we have built a baseline for our machines. For example, all machines need to have a shortcut on the desktop to an internal web server. The agent runs a compliance check every hour and it checks that the icon is there. I see how to install the icon with Desktop Central, but if I delete the icon, it never comes back. It looks like the configuration tasks are a one time only thing and cannot do routine compliance checks. Am I missing something?
Patch Configuration for Remote Sites
Good Afternoon, We dumping WSUS and trying out Desktop Central for patch management. Most my configurations are set but there one automated patch setup that I like some input on. Most of our campus is connected by fiber, but we have two remote sites that are connected by a very poor AT&T T-1 line. It would be helpful if there was an option to configure patch deployment when the device is connected by WiFi (or cable) to avoid large downloads to laptops. We have a large number of users on the road who connect their laptops with 3G. To avoid large data bills we would like to be able to configure a template to prevent excessive data charges with portable devices and allow the device to update when at home or office and on WiFi

Hi All, please point me in the right direction if i am missing anything but the reporting on patch management seems very limited. am i able to report on a select number of machines? if i wanted to show only servers that are missing updates. who do i run a report that shows which patches were successfully deployed to 1 machine in particular? will i have to request these reports everytime? thanks Russ

Hi, I would like to know if we can rename the "admin" username in Desktop Central to someting else. I know from the application it can't be done, only the password, but in the db (MS SQL) , if i rename it, will it cause any issue ? If it's possible, where i can change it ? Thanks
LAN vs. Roaming Agent Usage
I am not seeing significant differences in how the LAN vs. Roaming Agents operate. I have laptop users that leave the LAN, but still appear to be contacted, scanned and patched. Other than identifying a Remote Office that is associated with an IP range so the client will contact the correct distribution server, is there a difference? Deleting desktops from inventory should be easier
I have a Configuration that's sitting at "in progress" because of one desktop that no longer exists in AD. When I look up that desktop name in the search box, there is a check box next to it but there aren't any commands for it. And I do not see any button to delete the desktop. I know there is a way to delete them, but the search results should have an option to delete a desktop. Best Practice for WSUS and Desktop Central
We are using Desktop Central now to manage Windows updates for all of our workstations. We were using WSUS. Right now they are both running. We will continue to use WSUS for server updates. Is it okay to leave the workstations still setup with the GPO for WSUS? The boss wants to just leave everything as it is. Are there any issues with PCs using both WSUS and Desktop Central?

We have a single domain, but have several travelers (e.g. road warriors that may be on the road for 30 days). While I currently have all systems setup within the Local Office, is that the proper use case for my road warriors? Should they be assigned to a Road Warrior remote office with Direct Communication instead of the Local Office or will they still scan and patch even if they are gone for 30 days? Desktop Central Feature Request - email on completion of configuration

Problem while downloading the patch from server
Hi I'm having trouble deplying patches from our installation of Desktop Central 8. The patches have been successfully downloaded and are in the software repository, but whenever I try to install them to any client machine, it fails with the error "Problem while downloading the patch from server" Where can I look for logs with more details of what's actually causing this error? deploying software run as 'user' still running as 'system'
Hello DC team, I am wondering why this is not working? I have created a deployment in which case I would like interaction with the desktop. I have choose to run the installer as domain admin. The issue I am running into is even in the summery it's showing correct as run as 'domain/user' on the local workstation the exe I am trying to run is running as 'system'. In this case I have to run it as admin to I get an interaction with the desktop and the user will get a pop up where to enter a password.
IP scan for servers in Desktop Central
We currently have both Desktop Central and ServiceDesk Plus. We have Desktop Central performing the asset scanning, and feed it into ServiceDesk. ServiceDesk's asset scanning is off. Is there a way to scan an IP range via Desktop Central, or do I need to turn on ServiceDesk IP scanning? If I do that, will I see duplicate asset entries in ServiceDesk (scan results from Desktop Central and ServiceDesk)? Thanks, Dave

How to fully extend text in Desktop Central?
In the text columns that show programs in list form, is there any way to fully extend the text to show the entire program name in the column? I know you can scroll over it and it will bring up a bubble with the full name, but I was curious if you could extend it further than 20 letters or whatever it decides to stop at. Much appreciated.
