[Tips & Tricks] How to find OID's for new devices ?
What is an OID? Object Identifier (OID) is the unique id provided by the manufacturer to identify the device/system information. Each device's information would have a unique OID. Here we are going to discuss the 2 easy ways to find OID information, 1. Get a MIB file from the Manufacturer 2. SNMP walk using a MIB browser 2.1. Using Inbuilt MIB browser in SDP 2.2. Using External MIB browser Get a

What protocol is utilized to get Services, Processes and installed applications
Hi, 1. What protocol is responsible to get Services (With details like version), Processes and installed applications (and their versions) from a device? is SNMP capable of doing all that? 2. OID monitoring for counter type in SNMP monitor
We have to monitor the temperature and velocity fan in a EMC storage. For that we have the "EMC_SW.mib" MIB. In this MIB there are the following: with the following OIDs: If we monitor all the "swSensorEntry" table, we have the following in the Applications Manager (v.11900): That's correcto, BUT if we would like to do an alarm for the temperature and another for the fan, we couldn't. We only could create alarms for all the "swSensorValue" column, but not for only a value. The solution (and the PROBLEM)

Error in SNMP polling Barracuda Spam Filter
Hi All, I'm trying to create a device template for a Barracuda 600Vx and have some issues with the polls. Using the MIB browser I get an error stating: "Request failed or timed out. Response PDU received from **.**.**.** Error Indication in response: There is no such variable name in this mib. Errindex: 1". If I use Paessler SNMP tester I get a correct response using the same OID. After a Wireshark trace it seems that OpManager is adding a trailing .0 to the OID. Paessler is querying .1.3.6.1.4.1.20632.2.3
OpManager 11600 re-apply a template on a VM removes all VMware monitors
Hi, the title pretty much says it all: a vCenter with a few hundred hosts, SNMP-enabled and a few custom templates. Whenever I make an adjustment to the template and force a re-apply on the associated devices to reflect those changes, all the VMware monitors are lost, and we're unable to re-add them manually. The only way to have the new templates distributed while keeping also the VMware metrics is to remove and re-add the whole vCenter. It looks like the device loses the information that is a

Unknown type for discovered VMs
Hi - when I add a vCenter virtual appliance to perform an automated VM monitoring, the VMs are correctly added to OpManager - but the discovered VMs are of type "Unknown". I have created a set of templates that via SNMP that correctly recognize each host (tested with the VMs IPs) and monitor a different subset of metrics, but I can't find a way to automatically associate the SNMP credentials to the automatically discovered VMs. The only workaround I found so far is manually re-discover the VMs adding
How can I monitor SNMP tables?
Hi, OpManager build 12100. I have a number of machines I need to monitor. They have various configurations for hardware parameters, eg. Chassis Fans stats. For a single machine, the stats are ordered like this (via smpwalk): F5-BIGIP-SYSTEM-MIB::sysChassisFanNumber.0 = INTEGER: 4 F5-BIGIP-SYSTEM-MIB::sysChassisFanIndex.1 = INTEGER: 1 F5-BIGIP-SYSTEM-MIB::sysChassisFanIndex.2 = INTEGER: 2 F5-BIGIP-SYSTEM-MIB::sysChassisFanIndex.3 = INTEGER: 3 F5-BIGIP-SYSTEM-MIB::sysChassisFanIndex.4 = INTEGER: 4
Unable to delete SNMP monitor
Under the 12100 build I can't find an option to delete a few SNMP custom monitors that I created with a testing purpose. I'm not trying to remove the monitor-template association, I need to delete the custom monitor from the list. As you can see from the screenshot, under "Configuration", "Monitors", "Performance Monitor" there's no way to delete the custom-defined ones (the two "F5 device" ones). By the way, there's also no options to easily search them: there are hundreds, a search function should
Editing Device Template / Monitor OID?
I'm trying to edit an OID to create a custom monitor (or enter it manually, I don't mind!), once selected through the MIB browser it's not editable when creating the monitor - so it uses the table ID, and I can't select the instance. Useless for my purpose where different instances need to be monitored and have different values! Has anyone found a way to select an instance (i.e. edit the OID to add ".1" or ".2") for the individual interface's parameter to be read? Thanks, David H.
Does using the network scan to scan Brother printers return meaningful information?
Hey there, We upgraded to the brand new SDP MSP 9.0. I know the version is different than the non MSP version but I believe the question is still relevant. I scanned an IP range on my network that had two different printers. It returned a sysDescription with an incorrect model number (NC-8300h), no Serial Number, and a useless toner supply number (-3 tenthsOfGrams, 150%). It looks like some Konica printers are returning some clearer results but the Waste Toner Box and Staple cartridge are returning
Changing product type reverts back on next scan
I am changing the product type for all network printers to their actual model. Product HP-Printer isn't all that helpful if I don't have the model. When I create a custom product-type and save it, it reverts back to HP-Printer on the next network scan. Is there a way to lock it, or even better have the SNMP details filled in better? I could exclude them from scanning, but then I assume the toner levels would not update.

Monitor Linux VM Disk Space
We have a Linux machine that is currently being used as a mount point for another server. This server does nightly backups of our ERP system, and I was wondering if it was possible to set up a monitor via SNMP to monitor the available free space on the machine and make sure it doesn't get too small. Currently, we're running it Hyper-v on Server 2012 R2. The Linux VM itself is Red Hat 6.6. Whenever I try and add a performance monitor, however, I get the below message. Please check whether the device
