Windows Freatre Packs
When, Windows 10 Feature pack 20H2 appeared in my updates list, the Windows 10 Feature Pack 2004 disappeared. I would like this reversed. We aren't deploying 20H2 yet do to driver and certificate issues. I'm still fighting through v2004 updates due to
Automatic patch deployment - never catches up!
Hi, I'm finding that the automatic patch deployments never catch up. We've always got a lot of critical/vulnerable patched outstanding and each week, it resets even further as more patches are added in. Does anyone know how best to deal with this so
FYI: Certain Zebra printers stop functioning with the PrintNightmare (CVE-2021-34527) stop working
Between Reddit and the Zebra printer forums, it's being reported that some Zebra printers don't function after this patch is installed. Once the patch is removed the PC will continue to print to the printer. If your like us and have these printers in
Desktop Central Build 10.0.276
Hi All, Anyone on build 10.0.276? I know it fixes the issue where MDM does not synchronize correctly with AD, but I wanted to make sure no one was having major issues with it. Thanks!
We're deep in our trial of Desktop Central.
We're deep in our trial of Desktop Central. I'm seeing what I consider odd behavior on newly added windows machines. I add the DC client to a machine, and the first thing that happens is that for any applicable APD task, the machine goes into the "patching complete" state in APD no matter how many patches it has lined up. It then stays in that state until at least the next vulnerability DB update, and sometime after that runs patches. This can take up to almost a day unless I force the patches.
Automating VS Manual patch install by schedule question/issue
Since i'm new to Desktop Central, I have been reading the documentation and watched a few videos. However I am still a little confused on how the automation of patches works. Right now, i am in the process of cleaning up our environment of missed patches as well as going forward, installing patches on a time based schedule. Currently, this is what I have done: Created test deployment policy. Set Mon- Fri each week, 6am to 5am Initiate deployment is set to Either WOL & Download Patches are checked.
FYI: An excellent resource for watching Microsoft patch releases
This section of AskWoody.com (of Computer World renown) is curated by the venerable Susan Bradley (Microsoft MVP 18 years and running!) https://www.askwoody.com/patch-list-master/ I have a multi-departmental "Patch Management Test Group" that gets all patches 10 days after releas (gives a patch admin time to come off most vacations and put the kibosh on a patch, if necessary). Seven days after that group has had the patches, the patches are auto-approved and released for general application (workstations
Patch scan scheduling
Documentation says to use Patch Mgmt\Automate Patch Deployment\Schedule Patch task...schedule Patch Task is not an option, only Automate Task...from Automate Task, "Scan the Systems to Identify the Missing Patches" is never an option.
Asset Management
I have new computers/hardware that arrive on pallets and I would like to use a scanner device or manually enter the computers/hardware for inventory. These computers/hardware have not been imaged/deployed to any user yet, so they are still in the boxes. Does Desktop Central have the ability to scan a barcode or add computers/hardware manually without removing them from the box to place into inventory?
CU Patching Issue
I feel Desktop Central is deprecating superseded patches too quickly. I have two machines failing to install 2019-08 CU for Windows Server 2016. 2019-07 CU was approved tested and partially deployed in my environment when it got disabled by the Patch DB Update Wednesday after Patch Tuesday. I had opened a case about this awhile back that Patches that superseded other patches shouldn't disable the prior patch till the new one is approved. Other tools like Altiris handle patching this way. That way
SHA-2 Code Signing Update Prerequisite
Hi everyone I have spent the last few hours reading through the release notes for the latest Windows Updates. What caught my attention is e.g. https://support.microsoft.com/en-za/help/4516033/windows-7-update-kb4516033 where it says that the SHA-2 update (KB4474419) and the SSU must be installed before any other updates are installed. Does Desktop Central / ManageEngine pay attention to these details? I don't get the impression to be honest as all other September updates are available for installation
Prevent MDM Profile from being removed
We are configuring this for the first time. I saw a previous post that stated this could be done through an option in the Policies, but what was written in the post is not there to select. We are trying to prevent a mobile user from being able to 'unmanage' a device. The 'MDM Profile' from ZohoCorp goes on the device when it is enrolled and the 'App Catalog' application gets installed. This is done without a profile being added to the 'Default_IOS_Corporate' group. The user is able to go into

I have gone in to services and started the ManageEngine Desktop Service Server, but in the system tray ManageEngine Desktop Central 9 is status is showing stopped right click and start only produces another event as show above. Anybody able to help? Gary

Microsoft Surface Pro 4
Are there plans to support the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 in DC? Currently you are unable to update firmware/hardware updates from WSUS but can from Microsoft Update. As we don't let our users update from Microsoft Update, we don't get the firmware updates we require. Are we able to download these via Desktop Central?
Warning: Don't deploy Win10 Creators/Feature Update as a "patch" (as suggested by ME)
After giving the world enough time to iron-out any bugs that might've existed with updating corporate workstations to 2017 Fall Creators Update v1709, we decided to go ahead and roll it out, following this guidance: https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/windows10-feature-packs.html I created a policy that allowed users to delay ("skip") the Update for a max of 2 days, with the maximum of 10 retries. Five days later, our user-base is raw from the pop-ups that just won't stop, even
Desktop Central's new 9 squre advertisement quick links
Has anyone noticed the new 9-squre button on the left left hand side on the Desktop Central interface. New icon/button If it's click you are presented with advertising. Ads Why this kind of thing seems an acceptable behavior on the Free or even Pro releases at a stretch, we pay for Enterprise and therefore I just don't think it's an appropriate change even though it's not intrusive, whats everyone else's thoughts?
DC patching not honoring "Deploy after X days from release
We use an automated patching policy whereby a subset of our computers are members of a patch management test group ("PMTG"). That group is not supposed to get those patches until they've been released for seven days. My computer is a member of that group and DC patched it 16.0.13001.20384 this morning when it was only released yesterday (see link below). Is anyone else experience the same? Update history for Microsoft 365 Apps (listed by date) https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/update-history-microsoft365-apps-by-date
Patch stored location is not available to download the patch from the server error
Hi, I have a new install of Desktop Central, in a workgroup environment. I get the following error on all workstations I have configured: Patch stored location is not available to download the patch from the server. The workstations can browse and reach the patch store folder manually through the network. How can I troubleshoot this? thank you!
How do I change the FQDN of the Desktop Central Server?
I just migrated my Desktop Central Server over to a new server that I will will be moving over to our DMZ. Game plan is to end up patching machines that are not on our network using a Public IP. Anyways, when I migrated my server using the migration utility I forgot to use the FQDN that I had set up on our network and I used the server name by accident. Now that everything is migrated over to the new server I cannot figure out how to make the agents contact the DC server using a FQDN rather than
Remotely Wipe workstation
Recently I needed a way to remotely wipe a machine, and we do not currently have any MDM licenses. So I found a quick powershell script that connected to the Windows 10+ WMI / MDM method and can do a factory reset with full wipe. I found the original

System Health Policy?
Quick question for all those who use DC patch management. What is your System Health Policy set too, or what do you feel is a good setting for this? I currently have it set to the following: Thoughts? Opinions? Anyone else care to share theirs? Thank you! Todd

Setting Registry Key in pre-deployment does not work
Hi all, I am currently frustrated: Before a SW installation I need to modify a specific registry key. I cannot create a "Configuration Collection" with Regsitry-Config + "Install SW" because There is no "Install SW" in collections. :( (By the way - why not??) So I tried pre-deployment action: I can only CHECK for a key, but I cannot modify it! :( So I created a batch-script with content: reg.exe add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\ClickToRun\Configuration" /v UpdateUrl /t REG_SZ /d

Remote Control - Issues/Agent Connectivity
Hi We have Desktop Central 9 setup and we have our primary server IP as the LAN Address and the secondary as the external IP. We find that when we go to carry out remote control sessions, the users computer is showing as online, but when we try to connect the agent immediately shows as offline. Many of our users are remote and off our domain so i need to ensure that remote control is working (where possible as we cannot control 3rd party firewalls) The agent then comes back online after a few minutes.
Can System Manager Shells be improved to support tab completion and command history with up arrow?
Currently, the System Manager features are a nice enhancement, but the Command and Powershell shells are lacking tab command completion and command history (up arrow) functionality, which make them far inferior to the actual shells, bordering on unusable

Desktop Central On-premise vs Off-premise AD
Hey Guys, I am part of a small company that is looking at possibility of migrating to Azure AD. We are looking at the possibility of either having a hybrid AD system, or going completely off-premise AD. In regard to integration of Azure AD with Desktop Central what's it like using it vs maybe an on-premise AD system that was integrated with DC if you guys have had experience with it?
