Error: The template cannot be deleted. It could be because it is delegated to a help desk technician or group.

Issue description

When attempting to delete a template in ADManager Plus, you might encounter the following error:
The template cannot be deleted. It could be because it is delegated to a help desk technician or group.

Possible causes

  • The template is part of an active automation task.

  • The template is configured within an orchestration template.

  • The template is set as the default for a help desk technician or technician group.

Prerequisites

  • Have administrative privileges to modify or delete templates in ADManager Plus.

  • Have access to view and edit automation and orchestration configurations.

  • Backup the ADManager Plus database before making changes.

Resolution

Step 1: Check automation configurations

  1. Log in to ADManager Plus and navigate to the Automation tab.

  2. For user creation templates, look for automations with the request type User Creation.

  3. For modification templates, check automations with the request type Modify User by Template.

  4. If the Request Type column is hidden, click Add or Remove Column to make it visible.

  5. Remove the template from any associated automation task.

Step 2: Check Orchestration templates

  1. Navigate to Automation > Configuration > Orchestration Template.

  2. Verify if the template is used in any orchestration tasks, especially those involving Modify User actions.

  3. Remove it from the orchestration configuration if found.

Step 3: Check template delegation

  1. Go to Delegation > Help Desk Reports > Technicians Report.

  2. Add the Delegated Templates column to the report.

  3. Check if the template is assigned to a technician or group.

  4. Edit the technician’s configuration to remove the delegated template.

Step 4: Attempt deletion again

  1. Ensure the template is no longer part of any automations, orchestration templates, or delegated roles.

  2. Once confirmed, try deleting the template from ADManager Plus.

Tips

  • Regularly audit templates used in automation and orchestration to avoid configuration conflicts.

  • Maintain documentation of where templates are used to ease future edits or deletions.
