Why am I getting the error message "Error in adding help desk technician(s)"?

Issue description 

While adding help desk technicians in ADManager Plus, you may get the message “Error in adding help desk technician(s).” This issue blocks the creation or update of technician accounts, impacting role delegation.

Possible causes 

  1. Your ADManager Plus license does not have enough available slots to add help desk technicians.

  2. The user is already assigned as a technician through group-based delegation and cannot be added again individually.

Prerequisites 

  • You must have administrator rights in ADManager Plus.

  • Check that your ADManager Plus license has allocation for adding more help desk technicians.

Resolution 

Step 1: Check the user accounts in ADManager Plus 

  1. Log in to ADManager Plus using an admin account or a technician account with the necessary delegation rights to add new technicians.

  2. Go to Delegation > Help Desk Delegation > Help Desk Technicians.

  3. Click Add New Technician.

  4. Search for the user you want to add. If adding a group, ensure the user is a member of that group.

  5. If the user already appears under Direct Users and you're switching to group-based delegation, remove the user from direct users before adding the group.

Notes

Note: In group-based delegation, users will only show up under Help Desk Technicians after they log in to ADManager Plus at least once.

 Step 2: Check your license 

  1. Log in to ADManager Plus using an admin account.

  2. Click License in the top-right corner.

  3. In the License Details pop-up window, check the Number of Help Desk Technicians field and ensure that the In-use count is fewer than the number of licenses purchased. 

 Tips 

  • Verify that technician accounts are present and active in Active Directory before adding them to ADManager Plus.

  • Monitor license utilization regularly to ensure you don’t exceed the allocated limit.

  • Ensure continuous connectivity between the ADManager Plus server and domain controllers for seamless operations.

  • Use group-based delegation to simplify management and optimize license usage.
