Fully patched systems show up as vulnerable
I have systems that show they are vulnerable and need MicroSoft Patchs (105 total) but the computers are fully patched. Desktop Central was installed 8/10/12 and the last scan in the Highly Vulnerables list also shows 8/10/12. I need to schedule this scan but have not found out how. The systems were checked yesterday and they perform automatic updates. Interestingly, these systems show under the inventory report that the last successful scan was 8/30 and they showed 8/29 yesterday. What am I overlooking
Software usage
Hi, we are trialling Desktop Central as a possible replacement for LANDesk Mgmt Suite. Software usage reporting is critical to us, and whilst this product reports on usage a the Software level, no matter what I do, at the computer level software usage is always reported as UNKNOWN. The software compliance reports are only based on installed vs # of licenses. I also need to know if software is installed, is it being used, so we can harvest unused licences back for reuse. Why am I only getting UNKNOWN
Apache version
Hello, With the newest hotfix, 80039, what version of Apache is being used? Thanks a bunch! Gary

Hide the Domain Option
Our department has many workstations that are not part of AD nor do they have consistent WorkGroup names. We have customized the DC Agent installs by Branch Office. Is it possible to make the Branch Office selection the only selection in the Inventory?Computers screen? We desire to select the Branch Office without having to scroll past the Domain (workgroup) names. Thanks, MIke
Automate Patch Deployment - Scan at startup and install at shutdown?
Hi all We use the Automate Patch Deployment feature (Scan systems, download and deploy approved missing patches) to scan all systems on a daily basis and install any missing patches which were approved before. If a computer is not switched on at the time the task runs, the missing patches are obviously not going to be detected and not installed. Is there an efficient way to circumvent this? As an example, is it possible to configure the automate patch deployment task to scan the computers at startup
How to export configurations?
Hi there We use several independent Desktop Central servers. We do however need certain configurations on all servers. Is there a way to export a configuration from one server and import it into the others? In case the management console does not offer such a feature, is there a way to copy the configuration somehow from the Desktop Central installation folder? Thanks for your help Stefan
IP range instead of domain?
does desktop central have the functionality to discover machines via IP range instead of what's listed in the domain? For example: If a company had 3 sites and they all had different subnets (10.1.x.x, 10.2.x.x, 10.3.x.x), it might be beneficial for speed purposes to install desktop central on a machine at each site and just have that machine control the nodes on that particular subnet. That way it's not going across the all subnets to apply patches (which could be painful if the WAN is put together

CCleaner and Chrome
This morning when I got to work I discovered that CCleaner and Chrome had been installed throughout the organization. I had not pushed either out via DC, so I am a bit puzzled as to how it got pushed out. The automatic patches were pushed out yesterday afternoon, so I am thinking that it must be related to that. Is there a specific log I can look at that will show me how this occurred? Thank you
Creating Subgroups in Custom Groups
Researching the forum, I am surprised this has not be requested already. We are a large organization, patching servers is a defined process where we have to identify a group of servers we are patching, which patches are going to be applied to the servers and a proposed schedule on when it will be performed. After much deliberation with various departments and approvals, we schedule group patching. We generally call them distribution groups, we usually have about 15 to 20 servers per distribution
Desktop Central and ServiceDesk On the Same Server
Hi All, Any issues with running desktop central on the same server as an existing installation of service desk? what about adding the active directory management software to this same server as well? Thanks

Inventory reporting
Hi, When using the reports inventory function, and selecting Computers with/without a specific Software, after browsing to the software I need the report on, and running the report, I get a list of computers with no mention of the software at all. This seems like a pointless report if it does not tell me what version of the software is installed on each machine, reporting that the OS is Windows 7 and the service pack number is pointless unless that is what I want the report to show. Is there a way
Software Usage - Definitions of Rarely, Occasionally, and Frequently
How does Desktop Central quantify what rarely, occasionally and frequently actually mean? Is there some way I can see the number upon which this gets based off of? For instance, I generated a custom report to tell me information about WinZip installed within our network: Software Group Name Software Usage Type WinZip 9.0 SR-1 (6224) WinZip - General [GROUP] null dc.common.FREQUENTLY WinZip 9.0 SR-1 (6224) WinZip - General [GROUP] null dc.common.OCCASIONALLY
Force agent communication
With regards to patch configurations, specifically "missing patches"; I've created a new configuration to install missing patches, and it's downloaded the patch, deployed, and is now ready to execute. If I don't want to wait until the "install during startup" or "Install during referesh interval", is there a command I can run on the client to force a "refresh" or some communication between the agent & the server?
VNC
VNC connections are encrypted, but are they also authenticated? In other words, for security are non-Desktop Central VNC clients prevented from connecting to the computers? If yes, where is the VNC password stored on both the clients and the server?
Hardware Inventory
Is it possible for Desktop Central to list the type of RAID controller and motherboard model of each machine being scanned?
SoM is empty
Since the last update to version 8.0.0, Build 80035 the SoM display is not working anymore. I deleted my browser cache multiple times automatically and manual without success. In the SoM page none of the hundreds machines are displayed and i am no longer able to check agent installations. Thanks in advance for your help! Dirk
Desktop Central Configurations processing order.
Hello, We have many "Configurations" which map network drives in Desktop Central. I see that there is an option to "Disconnect all existing network drives before mapping new". Is it possible to create a configuration with the "Disconnect all..." option and then move on to another configuration with drive mappings? To do this we would need to know in which order the Configurations are processed. Thanks, Aaron
System Tools Alert
Love the ability to schedule disk checks and defrags via Desktop Central, but I don't see a spot to pop up a warning that the machine is going to reboot during the process. Your Shutdown feature itself includes the option to warn users, but the check disk, defrag, and disk cleanup do not. Unless I missed the setting somewhere...
SoM ( Scope of Management) works with errors
There is no managed client computers list and so we can't install/ununstall agent. We can't choose the "Domain/Remote Office" drop-down menu because it's blank. IE says that there is a problem in StateHandling.js module This problem was appeared in Desktop Central Server version 8.0.0.35 and goes on in 8.0.0.37 Please see attached screenshot.
Prohibited Software Uninstalls, Microsoft Then Reinstalls It
Hi, I'm running Build 80035 of Desktop Central. Inventory, Configure Prohibited Software, I have from the DTC-provided list selected all of software like: Microsoft .NET Framework So. DTC gleefully uninstalls .NET Framework 4 Client Profile and a little while later, Microsoft reinstalls it. Then, DTC uninstalls it. and so it goes. In Windows 7 (the wuauclt) I right-click the .NET Framework 4 Client Profile and choose, Hide Update, and provide my domain administrator credentials. I did have
Terminal service connection
Hi, Does anyone know if it is possible to make a remote connection to a Microsoft Terminal services client connection to perform remote desktop assistance using the DC client. Thanks. Geoff.
Add Custom Group Selection Option to WOL
Would love to be able to select a Custom Group from the WOL options instead of having to manually check each computer from a Domain List. That was one of the reasons that I created the Custom Groups was to be able to select an entire group (or building in our case) to wake at once. Thx. Richard
Un-decline an update
I want to temporarily hide an update that conflicts with our billing software. Is it possible to set an update to Decline then go back and approve it?
approve patch for some clients but not approve/decline for others
hi i have a question is it possible to approve a patch for a particular set of computers and decline it for others for instance we have a blackberry enterprise server and RIM suggest you do not update the java installation so i would like to decline a patch for our BES servers but approve it for all other servers/computers and laptops. i don't think this is currently possible or can i do this i now have to manually remove the java updates from the BES servers when i run the update but i am sure there
How to utilize Dynamic Groups for Patch/Software Deployment?
I have created a few dynamic groups that have seperated our Windows 7 x86, Windows 7 x64, and Windows XP physical machines. I would like to be able to deploy patches (and software) to only the PCs listed in each of these dynamic groups (because a search of Windows 7 x86/64 also brings up several virtual machines that I do not want to patch). When doing patch deployment, I see that the staticly created custom groups are available for patching, but the dynamic groups are left off the list of available
Registry settings
HI Guys, Can you give some examples in your Configuring Registry Settings page please? It makes it easier to see the exact format required like backslashes etc. I am struggling with Sub-Key, Value Name and Value Data / Expression. Thanks
MSI Takes FOREVER when deploying via GPO
Agent version 33. (Latest). I created a Software Installation Policy for a OU that will push out the MSI. However, when the PCs are rebooted and it comes time to install the MSI before the Ctrl-Alt-Del screen, it takes about 20 minutes. Way longer that it should. I have all post installation tasks disabled in the Admin Console. From what I have read, the MSI file is the only file needed for a GPO Deployment. I have peeked in the GPO, and my server's IP address is indeed hardcoded in the MSI.
NSSendRequest has returned with error code is :10061
Any idea what "NSSendRequest has returned with error code is :10061" means? We've changed our SSL VPN and we're in the process of opening the required ports for the Desktop Central agent to communicate with the server. We've added every port we can think of but we're still receiving the above error when "applying configurations". Does this stand for something other than unable to contact the server?
Like: If File exists added to the create shortcut configuration
I'd like to see the ability to check for the existenance of a file, such as an installed application, before creating a shortcut on the desktop. In my case I have an application that is installed for a subset of users that are part of an OU in AD. I want to deploy a desktop shortcut for that app to only the users that have the app installed. I use the OU as the target for the configuration, but not everyone in the OU has the app installed. The configuration could do a check for the file or installed
Issue with Office 2010 Deployment
I am in the process of installing office 2010 using desktop central at remote locations over 10 MBPS link. Can someone tell me what is an optimal number of installs that I can initiaiate at one time. i have 1000 hosts on the network that need to be installed. I tried 10 hosts at a time and I ran into several failures. Thank you in advance for answerting. Arif
Identify systems with administrator access
I have been asked to try to locate all the systems on the network, where users have administrator access to their computers. Our computers are not using local accounts, but domain accounts. I can individually tell if a user is listed within the local administrator group on their computer, by looking at the information within the inventory - but this does not seem to work with the reports. The reports are only showing me locally created users within the local Administrators group, but not any "domain"
Licence Issue
Hi have just removed a user from Desktop central. But I am still being prompted that I need to buy a additional user licence. Would not me deleting a user and adding a new user account as the same licence Regards Gavin Dubb | Desktop Support Engineer Email: gavin.dubb@fasthosts.com www.fasthosts.co.uk
Manage Engine DC Question
If I uninstall a piece of software from a workstation, does the software still appear in DC? or does it disappear once uninstalled? We have over 1,000 pieces of software showing. I would like to get that down to 100
Manage Engine agent on windows servers
Has anyone had any issues with manage engine's agent running and installing patches on windows servers (exchange, domain controller, etc)? We currently use Manage Engine agent for patching our desktops but are a little hesitant to install it on servers. Not sure if it is better to install patches on servers by hand or let the agent do it. Also when pushing out a new agent on upgrades I would hate for the agent install to cause the server to crash. Any thoughts or experiences would be helpful. Thank
Hardware Ownership
When looking at reports & lists of hardware in the network, what is the difference between "Owner" and "Primary Owner"? I would like to set them both to the same setting since certain reports don't make them both available.
Problem in Configuring Software Repository
Dear all There is a problem that I have. I have Installed agent in all of the computers which have joined to the Domain. I want to create a package to Install a software on computers. As i have to first configure the software repository In "Software Development Tab-->Network Share--> Create Type: choose an Existing Share--> Browse" I can see my Domain Name but while I click on the +beside it to list my computers under it, it gives me a message which is "The list of servers for this work group is
