Add subgroups in custom groups for devices.
Researching the forum, I am surprised this has not be requested already. We are a large organization, patching servers is a defined process where we have to identify a group of servers we are patching, which patches are going to be applied to the servers and a proposed schedule on when it will be performed.
After much deliberation with various departments and approvals, we schedule group patching. We generally call them distribution groups, we usually have about 15 to 20 servers per distribution group, about 10 to 15 distribution group in Production, Development/Testing and DR each. Hence grouping and organization is extremely critical.
Wondering if anyone in similar situation and if so, how do you handle management of such large amounts of servers. Currently we have around 300+ servers and at our current rate we will be at 500 server count within 2 years worth of time.
Also, I didn't understand why we are forced to have a server in a group. I mean generally when we build out the application, we start creating all groups first then we later add servers to groups. DesktopCentral does not allow empty groups, only way to create it is with at least one server in it. This is not a biggie, but mind numbing as why do they force users to perform tasks in a certain manner.
