Desktop Central Needs Dark Mode
Hello, I'm hoping that I'm not the only one who has noticed the amount of eye strain from looking at these very bright dashboards. It would be very nice for Desktop Central to have a dark mode! Thank you, Jesse C.
Better USB Control
We know that DesktopCentral can block/deny USB access. It will be great if we could control different types of USB activities. For example: Be possible to create a template that deny usb pendrives and allow usb mouses and keyboards. Example 2: Be possible to create a template that allow read actions in pendrives but deny edit/create/exclude actions.
Better column width control
There should be either manual control of the columns or more intelligent control by the software. For example in software inventory the software title is cut short while there is still space left on the screen, smaller fields take up the same space, making it hard to tell similar software apart quickly.
Group computer by IP
It would be helpful to be able to list or sort computers by IP number. For example, I have one domain with several subnets -- each location is a separate subnet. It would be helpful if I could group each location by IP - especially when rolling out new software and patches.
Ability to image machines
Ability to image machines or take a snapshot, if you will.
some integration with SDP
allow Desktop Central to be tied to Service Desk Plus. instead of having two software databases and PC/server/asset inventory DB's use one where updates are reflected in both apps. Both DB's don't display the same info. etc. there are other areas where they could integrate. For instance if you deploy an Enterprise app via Desktop Central Deployment utility maybe SDP could declinate an available license or record where its installed.
Further Windows Update Integration
Further integration with the Windows Update database to ensure that *all* eligible updates are captured. For example there is an update for .Net 3.5 but DC is not providing it as an option. Also "optional" software and hardware updates should be included from WU.
configuration deployment status
I tried to deploy .net 3.5 and the status shows as failed.. but remark says successful and needs a reboot.. It would help if you can have the status show up as “install running” and then “reboot required” etc..
Live feedback of agent status & pinging stations
The problem that I have come across is that something can happen to an agent but I have no way of knowing. It would be great if the agent can run as a background service on each client and report back its status. It would also be helpful to know whether the station is currently up/down. If a new computer is under my SoM but doesn't have an agent installed, DC should automatically install the agent.
Renaming Active Configurations
Renaming an active configuration without having to re-deploy and losing the installation history
Desktop Central Inventory
I would like to see the following features added to the Desktop Central Inventory report: 1) With each computer name the current user logged account should be displayed as well. 2) To be able obtain a complete report for all listed computers including hardware and software features, instead of just for one computer.
Percentage complete on configurations
As a computer runs the installation, it would be helpful to know how much of has been completed on each workstation.
Add location to computer details
A spot is needed on the computer details screen that would allow you to put the location of the computer. Preferably allow you to put department and the user assigned to the computer if there is one. Similar to the asset tracking in service desk plus
Removed Previously Installed Software
Ability to Remove software that is already on a machine. Say, for example, that I inherit a poorly managed LAN that I am to remotely manage. I need a way to get in and remove unapproved, or malicious software. I should be able to browse the Add/Remove Programs list on the remote machine and uninstall those applications. -- Or at least see the software so I could create pushes to pragmatically remove the software.
Added Tools and Features to Inventory View
Add all of the tools found in the tools section of desktop central directly onto the inventory view. Currently when viewing a computer in inventory, you have the connect-to or scan function. Add remote shutdown, start and restart, check-disk, defrag, etc. This way when troubleshooting a particular machine, the user can launch the tools directly from the computer inventory view.
import existing GPO security policies
one issue I see with security policy screen is it might over ride existing stable policies linked and created by GPMC to a GPO. if the policy could be imported then controlled here it might avoid conflicts.
User Administration - Dynamic Groups in Computers to be Managed Scope
We would like the ability to use Dynamic Groups when defining the "Computers to be Managed" in the technician user administration. The goal is to only allow the tech to manage Windows Computers and not Servers. Managing a static list of computers is
Option to push instantly
I would like to be able to push out applications or patches instantly rather than having to wait 90 minutes or for the user to log in
Improved Remote Shutdown Tool
Enable granular scheduled shutdowns. The WOL util allows scheduled jobs to run, why not shutdowns for security and configuration deployments? Would be valuable to select specific OU's and child OU's in Active Directory as well.
On-Demand Agent Requests
It would be nice (though I realize there are security implications here) if the agents were able to listen and take commands on demand. If I needed to force push software to an end user who did not understand how to trigger an "Apply Computer Configurations" request, the end user would be stuck for awhile. Or if I have been requested to force someone off of a machine; that would need to happen quickly.
Expand Templates or Add more Templates
Desktop centrals templates seem to be based on Group Policy just made easier via the interface on Desktop Central. It would be nice if you could expand desktop central to include more of the Group Policy configurations without loosing the "Desktop Centric" focus of Desktop Central and not step on any of the "functionality" of any existing Adventnet product.
Remote Process / Service Control
From the web console, the tech should have the ability to query and control in near-realtime individual services running on a remote machine. Further more he should have the ability to query and control running processes on a remote machine.
Dynamic Group based upon Laptop Model?
I was trying to create a custom dynamic group that would contain all computers of a particular model. I am not seeing the ability to select a model though in the dynamic group creation functionality. Am I missing it or is there a different way to do this. The Use Case is to deploy a particular firmware update to all machines of a particular model. Thoughts appreciated.
Advertised Program Interface
It looks like the framework for might be in place ("advertise" is an option for software pushes, but I don't see the end result...). But it would be excellent if the user could right click on the Agent and click "Browse Available Software" so that the user could have some choice in which software he/she needs. Also, the Windows "Add/Remove Programs" applet has an area for "Add programs from your network...". It would be optimal for those selections to appear there as well.
Self Service Portal suggestoin - ability to run scripts and configurations
In the Self Service Portal, allow users to run scripts and/or configurations as the user and/or as the computer.
Allow more database fields when creating dynamic custom groups
I think the functionality of custom groups would be significantly enhanced if you could select from more database fields. E.G. I would like to create a group where systems the system manufacturer is Dell and the installed version of a software is less than a specified value -- but unfortunately this does not seem to be possible. Thanks!
Inventory registry value via Desktop Central?
Is it possible to get an inventory on what computers have a specific value in a registry key via Desktop Central?
Upload Desktop Central Server logs via Web interface
Would like the ability that if support needs the logs from the Desktop Central Server and Distribution server that we can do this via the normal Desktop Central web interface support menu option. In addition, this would allow the upload WITHOUT shutting
See Endpoint Central Tickets here in Pitstop
Currently there is no portal for Endpoint Central. So you can't view your open / closed tickets for Endpoint Central. I don't understand this behavior
Tack when computers are turned on
It would be great if Desktop central could report when a computer was turned on through out the day like other software packages can (ex: Lansweeper). This will help to determine how much a computer is on and when a person may be working.
Display real name of users + search for usernames
At the moment, desktop central refers to users via the windows/active directory user name (e.g. "jsmith") - this is shown in places like the "logged on users" column and in the "logged on user" field for patch info, etc. In our environment usernames are sequentially generated based on starting department (e.g. "tech0183") so it's not obvious who a user account refers to. It would be exceedingly useful if there was another column and field for "AD User Name" that would display "Joe Smith". It would
Dynamic groups based on AD container
We group our servers and workstations in Active Directory according to function, eg Servers Mail Servers Citrix Servers Workstaions IT Workstations Finance Workstations Laptops etc. It would be very useful to make dynamic groups from these OUs, when adding a server or workstation then the dynamic group would automatically pick it up for the correct deployments.
Return computer that a user is currently logged into via the search button
Hi there, This is for EPC online. I would like to request a way to search for a users currently logged on computers via the search button in the nav bar. I know that you can do something similar in Tools, but instead of being connected to a remote session
Desktop Central 64-bit Agent
Hey, Any plans to make the Desktop Central agent 64-bit? The script engines that get called on Windows are called from SysWOW64 instead of System32. Thank you, Cheers
Registry Settings Configuration - HKEY_USERS/.Default
Desktop Central only allows you to deploy settings for HKEY_USERS/.Default under user configurations. This should be allowed under computer configurations as well (or instead even). While HKEY_USERS/.Default is technically a user hive, the settings pertain more to how you want the computer to be configured for the user(s) on that computer. In most cases, I want to modify this key by computer - not by user.
Sort by online/offline clients
Maybe it's already a feature and I'm just not seeing it but it would be great to be able to sort by a clients status, online, offline, not managed..
Continuous Redeployment of Configurations
I would like to set up continuous redeployment of configurations, but it seems that once a configuration has been executed, you have to modify it, then redeploy it. My end result is, I would like to deploy a shortcut to a certain group of users' desktops. If one of them should delete it, I would like for the shortcut to automatically reappear again. The same with software installs, if I have to reimage a computer, I would like to have all previously executed configurations redeploy automatically
Firefox Proxy Settings
I am using the Internet Explorer template for setting proxy settings. Is there a template available to set proxy setting for Mozilla Firefox? Thanks, Robert Adams
Automatically block non-approved applications
Hi DesktopCentral team, there is a feature that we really miss in DC. It would be the ability to automatically block the execution of any application unless we approve it.$ Currently, there is the prohibited software list. However, software in this list that cannot be automatically uninstalled are not block for execution. I think the ITeam cannot be credible if it can just pop-up a window at logon saying "you have prohibited software installed on your system" if it cannot block them... This should
Self Service Portal preferences
Hello, I am super-happy to see the "Self Service Portal" beeing implemented in the newest build! :) Unfortunately I haven't found a setting to disable the Desktop Icon for SSP, which gets generated with the client agent update. I would like to check the new feature before I publish the feature to all users and I want to prevent the user from clicking into ssp as long as I haven't published the feature officially. Is there a setting to prevent the desktopn shortcut from bein installed? I have created
