editing domain credential
I have setup a new Desktop Install. First step defined the SOM. I have 3 remote locations configured. I have manualy deployed the agent by logging in from the remote location. My question is to do with adding Domain credentials. As I am monitoring remote sites, how do I do this. I have tried a VPN connection the site, then adding credentilals but it fails. Is the tool designed to be able to do this? Vince

Hi, I've got few problems with Desktop Central under Windows French version. First of all : On remote desktop session, I can't 'Scan and Upload Patch details'. Oprating System Deployment
Does desktop central do "bare metal deployment"? is there any plans to implement this? We are testing this product in conjunction with Service Desk plus, and we like to look of it so far, but apparent the lack of operating system imaging and deployment may be a deal breaker for us.

I can't get any patches to install
I can't seem to get anything to install. Now I'm getting "The wait timed out" when installing MS Office SP3. I also can't install Windows Installer 4.5. I received your post on the command. schedule inventory is ok - manual scan failed
Hello, we are testing Desktop Central 6 Build 60214. One problem we have is that the scheduled inventory scan works, but a manual scan failed (timeout). We read the troubleshooting tips --> no solution for us, it seems everything to be ok. Any idea? Thanks Andreas
Inventory Computer by Age Report
When I run the above mentioned report, I get some reported under "Year of Installation" as 20010, 20020, 20030, 20032, 20040, 20042, 20050, 20052, 20060, 20070,20080. Just from spot checking, it appears that if it is adding a zero to the end of the year (and in some cases a "two" is added at the end). In other words, there is a computer that is reported as being installed in "20050" when in fact it was installed in 2005. In all there are about 23 workstation that are reporting this way -- about 200
Unknown Error in Desktop Central6
I am getting an unknown error. Code -1073741819 the handle is invalid. This is happening when trying to install patches. It is happening on all machines with a pop up that is headlined with 16bit MS DOS. What Do we need to do here to get this to work?
Helpdesk Settings Fail
i am trying to setup my helpdesk settings in DC. When I put the information in, and hit save, it tells me it failed to apply the helpdesk settings. I have checked and re-checked the settings. They are the same as in SDP. I cannot figure out what is going on. Thanks, Kevin
Removing Clients
I am having a issue removing a client. When I click uninstall it says uninstalled successfully, but when I go to remove it after the client uninstall it shows that it is installed. Is there a way to just clear all clients and reload the agent
Windows Installer 4.5
One of the patches I deployed created a problem where future software and patches can not be installed without installing Windows Installer 4.5 first. I thought I would simply deploy Win Installer 4.5 to all clients but it doesn't seem to work. Has anyone ran into this problem?
New to Desktop Central Questions
Just wondering if someone can assist - prior to evaluating this piece of software I have a couple of quick questions re: what it can/can't do 1. The software can audit pc systems but can it audit IE history 2. Can the system remotely manage PC's that sit outside of the domain environment 3. Hi ,I am an desktopcentral 6 user.Downloaded ,installed and configured the same for trial purpose .Deployed and tried to execute winrar.exe for the trial on one of the workstation on the same domain .Created the configuration and deployed it succesfully When It executed, it failed with error " Access is denied" Can you please help me out. Can't trust Patch Scan - What's up?
Hi guys. I just installed this thing for the first time today and started playing with it. I added a workstation, and then ran a patch scan on it. The results are a bit confusing. When I take the system directly to MS Updates, it shows only two updates which are not installed (I don't want them), but in the DC interface, it lists 34 missing patches for Windows. I'd really like to start using this to manage patches on my workstations, but if it's this far off on even knowing what's on them, how can

Hi. I even checked the appropriate check box (or unchecked it or whatever) to NOT have the icon show up, but it's still there on the workstation. Is there no way to make it go away, other than removing the shortcut from the Startup folder on that system? Thanks. steven

Screen "blinks" after first scan and patch install
Hi I have a problem that started happening after I did a remote agent install /scan and then pushed down a few MS patches. All these users are experiencing screens that are blinking (jumping). Are there any known issues or is it one of the Microsoft patches that are causing the problem? Thanks

Hi, how is it possible to manually edit hw inventory ? For example DC shows me: - Monitor Type : Default monitor - Hard Disk : it's completely blank ! I would like to change it to Acer xxx or add names and capacity of HDDs I really like DesktopCentral, but I need all possible names of devices. Thank you

The ability to choose a whole subnet versus choosing just ip addresses. if my remote location has 150 pc's, then I would like to just put in the network range instead. Chris Tornato
Helpdesk Request Subject List
I am using the Helpdesk request feature allowing our users to right click on the DC agent and create a helpdesk request. I noticed that the Subject setting under Admin/Help Desk Settings shows [MEDC] which uses an array of pre-populated variables allowing the end-user to select from a list when creating the helpdesk request. Is it possible to modify this list and populate with custom subjects and a custom body?
Remote Control time out issue
I have followed all the instructions to enable ActiveX per AdventNet. I also tried Java. Firewall is configured to allow port 8443. I am running the latest build. Client is Windows Vista Ultimate with SP1. Domain Users has local administrative rights. I get the dialog on the client to allow remote control, but it times out. I even tried increasing the time out 60, 90, 120 sec. Still does not work. Please advise, Niles
Delay Agent Service
Is there anyway to delay the startup of the dc agent on my client machines? In some cases it has caused severe delays in the user even being able to log onto the domain, in some cases 15 minutes or more. I tested and removed the agent and rebooted and startup was fine, re-deployed the agent and then rebooted and startup was painfully slow.
USB restrict by the user
Is there a way to allow the use of USB mass storage for certain users on a computer? Using security groups, we want to allow certain users R/W ability, others read only and the rest no access to USB mass storage. How can we accomplish this with Desktop Central? macintel

Hi, We started patch management using Desktop Central.We deploying patches across branches over the wan. I would like to know is it possible instead of every branch client comes for update from server, it should pick up from local pc.This local pc only will talk with server and download update.If any uncommon patch required then we will push from server. Re-download Office 2003 Service Pack 3
(I updated to DC 60308) I am trying to deploy Office 2003 Service Pack 3 through the install patch option to 23 machines. When it first downloaded the service pack before it started to deploy it gave me a connection error. So I tried again to depoly office sp3, it says its downloaded but it never runs, after 90 mins, a restart, or gpupdate, I let it run all night. So I downloaded office 2003 sp3 from microsoft and deployed it under software deployment with the option: Office2003SP3-KB923618-FullFile-ENU.exe
