SOM - Install Agent through AD
I would like to know if I can deploy my agents through AD, but at a later time categorize the systems in remote offices where applicable? I prefer this method for deploying the agent. seandonnelly

Report Flexibility
The reporting feature is decent, but we require more flexibility in choosing the types of fields and ranges to generate reports relevant to our needs. For starters, it would be helpful to be able to select service tags and serial numbers as a field for the reports. I want to know which laptops are nearing the end of its lifetime based on processor speed, RAM size and HDD capacity. Currently, it would require hopping and switching between different reports. Custom Group for Patches
Since computers can be divided in to risk categories such as Highly Vulnerable computers, how can I export those computers to a custom group or list so that the downloaded patches can apply only to this group?
Unable to connect to domain
I just installed Desktop Central using the installation section in the User's Guide. I installed it on a Windows 2003 Server with the latest updates and joined to our AD domain. When I log into the web console, it see's our domain under Scope of Managment, Add computers. It does not list a domain controller though. I clicked on Edit for the domain listing and typed in the required information. The window hangs their saying Updating. I have left it for 5 minutes with no change and finally clicked
Alternate Port
After installing the latest hotfix the "Web Console" icon that is in the system tray where Desktop Central Server is installed cannot connect to the server. During initial installation I had specified a different port for Desktop Central to use as we already had another application on that server that used the default 8020. So I set Desktop Central to use 8030. Well after the update it looks like it reset that service back to the default 8020. I can still get to it by opening up a browser and pointing
Desktop Central and Active Directory
I am in the evaluation process for Desktop Central 6.0. I like what I have seen so far, but I am still doing research and have yet to install it. I am curious about the interaction between Desktop Central and Active Directory. I see that it queries AD for user, group and computer information to populate its own database, does it actually write anything to AD? On PDF report missing month in date format
On report in Desktop Central complete date format is visible (month,date,year,clock), but in PDF report month is missing. In Desktop Central month is in cyrillic format. Performace Issue
Hi, While taking the control of user's System the machine gets stuck(Hang) and it takes long time to refresh the page While searching System's the option got automatically disappear and system hangs and come back to previous page. I am evaluating desktop central. I am wanting the software installation part. I am curious how the software installation works. I have a WAN which is not the fastest thing in the world. Does Desktop central us BITS or some other trickle download. I dont want to bog down my WAN.
Remote Control Quick Launch
Is there any way to establish a "Remote Control" sessions without that "Quick Launch" bar popping up? I do not see any options to disable it, just to disable prompting the user for authorization. Thanks for any info.

I am trying to set the email setting for the help desk section in admin. it doesnt seem to like my settings. I find this very strange since I am using the exact same settings for alerts and these are delivered without issue. Is this fucntionality 100% or is there a fix in a future release? Thanks
Inventory Scanning RPC Unavail.
Hey Guys, One other issue.. I can deploy the agent and establish a connection with Remote Control just fine (to all systems), unfortunately on quite a few of my systems however when I kick off an Inventory Scan I get the "RPC Server is unavailable" message. I've tried the GPO trick, I've ensured File & Printer sharing is enabled, I've opened up port 8020 on the firewall, and I even disabled our firewall (windows) and A/V (McAfee), does anyone have some pointers or tricks to determine why this isn't

Prohibited Software
I am in the testing phase of using Desktop Central and I have a question in regards to 'Prohibited Software'. Does this simply report on software installed that you mark as prohibited or does it actually stop the software from running? I put a test app into that category and on my test box running the software it loads without issue? Thoughts or comments are appreciated!

Configuration of Software / Patch Repositories
Is it possible to configure multiple Software / Patch repositories using Desktop Central or it is set to update from a single server to multiple clients which has downloaded the updates / software? User Logged History report
We are using the trial version of desktop central. We are looking at a product which will give us reports on our users and domains. The report we are particular interested in is the user logon history report. I have done a sync with our domain, which is completed. I have enabled user logon requests and set the maintain days user logon to 2 days. When I do a user logon history report I get no information. Other reports like user or computers reports like active accounts and inactive accounts work
multiple issues
Hello I'm running the beta wan DC6 and I'm running into many issues. 1. Not all computers will upload their reports the to server. i have check all firewalls and made sure all the proper services are on. Both at Vista machines. 2. I have a few computers with SP3 installed but the vul reports them as not being installed. this might be more a of a feature request but is there a way to find out the status of the antivirus installed ie. updated, scans done ect. also would there be a way to push or force

Desktop Central - Unable to connect to domain
I have recently installed Desktop Central and wanted to test the managent of desktops. When I tried to connect to the domain using domain administrative credentials the popup states that Validation failed. I am certain that my credentials are correct and I have attempted this using FQDN as well as NetBIOS names. Is there any thing else I should be doing so I may evaluate this software? Keyth James

Contiune to have issues with Configurations
Trying to push out a registry change using user configuration. for targets: When I choose or manually type in a username, the configuration executes. When I choose OU and select the OUs I want applied too, nothing happens. I had the manually populate the target field with 192 user accounts...what fun. Also, now that my configuration is running, when I look at the status page, the 192 users list isn't wrapped. I have to grab the lower slider bar and move right to left and back a bunch of times just
unable to disable USB drive
I use desktop central default configuration template to disable the access to usb drive. After i successfully apply this configuration to my network PC, it was able to block all the usb thumb drive. But after rebooting the client PC, they still can access their usb thumb drive. May i know what's wrong with it? So far I test with 5 client PC and all of them are giving the same result. It only work for the first time and the setting seems like lose its functionality once the client pc been reboot.

I'm evaluating DC right now, my network consists mainly of Windows XP 64 bit workstations. I'm wondering if DC supports 64bit, as I'm running into some issues and wondering if they might be related to this. ie, patch manager sees the machines as having Windows Server 2003Professional Edition SP2, rather than XP Pro x64 SP2. Setting up MSI or EXE with Switches
I want to use switches on my MSI and EXE files. In the line, Arguments to MSI: "/quite" - without quote or In the line EXE/Command Line : "/Sa" - without quote My errors are: Invalid command line argument The handle is invalid What am I missing here? I am trying to use Desktop Central 6 for deploying Office 2007. Via a command line I can install office with the MSP. \\server\setup\Microsoft\Office2007\setup.exe /adminfile \\server\setup\Microsoft\Office2007\Office2007.ProPlus.MSP /config \\server\setup\Microsoft\Office2007\ProPlus.WW\config.xml I see that Desktop Central handles MST files but no mention regarding MSP. How can I deploy office 2007 using DC, referencing the MSP file like I have in the script above? glenn

Hello, Sorry I put this in the wrong system before. I am trying to access desktops/laptops OUTSIDE our network. That are not internal to us. I downloaded the agent from the website and installed it on a laptop at home to try to test this feature.
