Log Search Rentention
Log search retention refers to the number of days your collected log data will be stored and available for searching in Applications Manager.
Customizing your log retention period
Global retention:
The number of days log data will be stored and available for searching across all log types before being automatically deleted
Navigate to Settings -> Applog Configuration -> Settings to configure the Global retention period. You can choose from the predefined Retention (days) options: 7, 15, 30, 60, or 90 days to retain your logs. Once the selected retention period expires, the logs will be automatically deleted.
Log Type Retention
The number of days log data for a specific log type will be stored and available for searching before being automatically deleted, configured individually for each log type.
Existing log types: you can change the search retention period by navigating to Settings -> Applog Configuration → Log Types and editing the log type. Click your desired log type, select the number of days from the Search Retention (days) field, and click Save.
New log types: you can select the
Search Retention (days) when creating the
new log type.
Note: Once the selected retention period expires, the logs will not be available for searching and they will be automatically deleted.AppLogs license
The AppLogs license determines the maximum amount of log data that can be uploaded to Applications Manager during a monthly billing cycle. This is calculated according to your License and is valid through the monthly billing cycle, after which it gets reset automatically.
Note: The AppLogs license is based solely on the volume of log data (GB) processed. The retention period you configure does not affect your license consumption—whether you retain logs for 7 days or 90 days, you are license consumption is only for the amount of data processed for the current billing cycle.
Key points:
If you exhaust your monthly log storage limit, you can either purchase additional add-ons or wait until the next month for the AppLogs limit to reset. If you need further assistance, feel free to reach out to

Choosing the right retention period
When selecting a retention period, consider the following:
Compliance and audit requirements: Regulatory requirements may dictate minimum retention periods for specific log types.
Troubleshooting needs: Longer retention periods allow you to investigate issues that may have occurred further in the past.
Storage capacity: Longer retention periods require more disk space on your Applications Manager server.
FAQ:
1. Does the retention period affect my AppLogs license consumption?
No. The AppLogs license is based solely on the volume of log data (GB) uploaded during the billing cycle. Whether you retain logs for 7 days or 90 days, your license consumption remains the same.
2. How much log space should I purchase if I am uploading 3GB per day?
To calculate the log space needed, use the formula below:
Formula: Logs used per day x Monthly billing period (the total number of days logs are collected) = Required log space
Example: For 3GB per day over 30 days, 3GB/day x 30 days = 90GB required per billing cycle.
3. What happens to logs after the retention period expires?
Logs older than the configured retention period are automatically removed from Applications Manager and will no longer be available for search or analysis. However, this does not free up your license quota for the current billing cycle.
4. Can I configure different retention periods for different log types?
Yes, Applications Manager allows you to set individual retention periods for each log type based on your specific requirements. -
