Monitoring of WINS and DNS
I was wonding if it is possible to monitor the status of WINS and DNS? Can you request the resolution of a host name against a specific WINS or DNS server and see if the resolution occurs - if not, an alarm is produced. Is it also possible to send an email to an autoresponder to see if a response comes back in a certain time? We have a BlackBerry server and want to monitor it as well to see response time, availablility etc. - is there a way to do this on an application level from a user perspective
How to link a clear trap to down trap?
How can we link related events (snmp traps) together? For example, I would like to group all traps related to a given interface/object and assign status to different traps, based on the OIDs and values. The web/GUI appears only providing limited options for a host. I have no way to tie them down to the power supply, individual interfaces... PS: all my traps are enterprise from a switch vendor that is not well known. Thanks, Min

Is Unsolicited Traps treated as unknown event?
Hi, How is Unsolicited Traps treated? Obviously they are belong to unknow events, some are important/critical and others are informational/noise. My question is how they are handled and stored. I need a way to handled them same as alarms. I also found out there is a need to raise an alarm based on the number of a given trap received in a defined period. e.g trap type foo/sec > n ---> alarm. OpManagerDB movement to another machine ...
Hi there, i want to move my configured OpManager Installation to another machine. I installed OpManager to the new machine , then moved the dircetory OpManagerDB with its content to the new machine. The startup picture of OpManager 5.5 stays on the screen, in the bottom line is written "configuration completed......" but now it hangs. Ist it possible to move my customized environment to another machine ? If yes, what has t o be done ? What have i forgotten ?

Custom Monitor: Monitor Mail Queue
OpManager v5.5 (5510) I have a script that generates the number of email messages in the queue. I set it up in my snmp.conf file and it works just fine when I use other products and snmpwalk to the OID I specified. However, OpManager appears to be appending a ".0" to the OID I enter into the Custom Monitors, which makes it invalid and thus OpManager thinks it's failing. Any thoughts on how to address this "bug" (I call it a bug because it's adding something that shouldn't be there)? Also, it returns

Hi, I've got some business views linked together with shortcuts. Some of these shortcuts are showing up as red despite everything in the targetted business view being green. What criteria are used for showing a shortcut as green or red? Are shortcuts themselves taken into account, or is it just devices? many thanks, alec

Archiving Events
Hello, So far I am pretty impressed with this OpManager 5.5. I was wondering if there was a way to archive all of the events from numerous servers and monitor them from the application? Our security logs get pretty big due to the auditing of logon and logoffs. I want to be able to clear them out when they get to a certain size but want to make sure there are backups. Thanks. Mike

Netscreen SNMP Request time out
Hi, I'm trying to get a respond from a Netscreen 25 firewall using the Java MIB client, but it always responds with request not found. Below are the details OID: .1.3.6.1.4.1.3224.3.2.1.25 -> (ICMP Large) I've set the Netscreen device to listen on the default port (161), SNMP v1 and all the correct IP and ports. I can get traps from the device listening on port 162 in OpManager, but only polling the device is a problem. any solutions or way to troubleshoot?? Thanks.

The custom Monitor did not respond to the test request

add option to device info
is it possible to add custom actions to the device info area. I would like to add (SNMP)interface status. I think it would be a good troubleshooting tool. there is not a way that i know to very easily ping a downed interface through the UI. Please advise. Thank you
web interface timeout
i have the web interface set to refresh every minute. I do not want interface to time out. If i leave for any period of time it tells me session timed out due to security reasons. I would like to turn this off. How do i accomplish this. Thank you for your help

ping imeout
Hi I want the ping timeout to devices to be greater than the current (its currently about 1000ms) as some devices are on small 128k pipes that sometimes get to 1500ms RTD, which triggers a false "down" alert. I can find a place to change snmp timeouts but not icmp... can this be achieved? Thanks Francisco
Interface speed - forced limit
We have a 34 Mbps internet feed which is connected to a 100 Mbps interface on the firewall. OpManager is reporting on the bandwidth usage based on a 100Mbps link, is there anyway I can configure OpManager to think the link speed (interface) is 34 Mbps?

Cisco temperature bug?
Hi, Graphing of Cisco temperatures doesn't seem to work properly. The OIDs that OpManager uses for inlet/outlet temp are the same ones that I've been using with MRTG, so I know they're good and I know the router supports them. However, my graphs in OpManager just show "na"; there's no data. The only difference I can see between the graphs that work and those that don't is that the ones that work are SNMP "gets", and the ones that don't (temperature) are SNMP "get-nexts". Don't know if that makes

Hello, I would like to know how to configure a Trap processor for the following trap I am receiving. I created a trap processor with this OID but it didn't work. Please let me know how to configure this BGP trap, in order to receive the different BGP status from the routers. - No Trap Parser defined for received trap: Enterprise: .1.3.6.1.2.1.15 Generic Type: 6 Specific Type: 2 Variable Bindings: .1.3.6.1.2.1.15.3.1. Installation Question
When you install OpManager, do you need a web server? or will it work on just a regular desktop? I wasn't sure and I didn't want to install it to the wrong place. Thanks
Add Interface to Windows Server
Is there a way to add an network interface, to a Windows server, that is not automatically discovered in OpManager? I tried using the AddInterface.bat file, but the interface doesn't show on the server snapshot page under Interfaces. The output from the batch files says the interface was added, but it looks like it is placing the information in router tables.
Cisco As5300
Dear Support, I added my cisco AS5300 device to the OpManager and it does not show me any interfaces and also it sends me a wrong alert. I am currently monitoring 2 cisco devices (Cisco 7206 and Cisco AS5300) I have setup a notification profile and associated to my cisco 7206 only. The problem is when the interface goes down on AS5300 device, the OpManager sends a notification that is associated with cisco 7206. What is the problem?
Using Opmanager with Proliant Dl Servers
Hi guys we are currently running Dl380 and Dl360 servers All of these servers are running Suse linux Enterprise server 9, each running with the proliant support packs 7.30 or 7.20 We are also evaluating Opmanager 5.5. how ever the problem is that the stats we are gathering from these servers for the cpu and memory usage are incorrect for the resource monitors. We are aware of the vender specific monitors for the proliant servers but this is not what we want Does anyone or has anyone successfully
Linux Installation
I'm installing OpManager on Fedora Core 3 for the first time and after extraction of files, I don't see the StartOpManagerServer.sh file, that is suppose to be in the home, which I'm assuming is the root of the file: Here's my path: /opt/AventNet/ME/OpManager The only .sh file that I see in the root folder is setEnv.sh. Assistance would be appreciated. Thanks
How alarm escalation works with trap?
I got a trap that had severity "critical" and not cleared within the defined period in a related alarm escalation. However, no action (predefined email) were taken. Is this a bug? Thanks, Min

How to monitor remote client network?
We are a small based IT service provider and would like to know how to monitor our client network from our office. All clients have ADSL connections with ISP's and we are able to discover the client (cisco) routers routers within the ISP's IP range. Eg ISP range is 203.23.213.0 (we can discover any router here) and client router ip is 203.23.213.45 (discovered). What do we have to access our client's networks and monitor the devices? Thanks

How I can monitor traffic on Cisco 1600 using OpManager? It means I want separately monitor all otbounds traffic and all inbounds never mind in packets or bits. Now I have some monitors working Interface Input Bits - Ethernet0 Interface Output Bits - Ethernet0 CPU utilization Medium Buffer Hits They works well. But I need total traffic control I've tried Interface Tx Traffic under Traffic Monotors section but it doesn't work

I need to be able to generate a report that tells me what nodes are getting what monitors. for example node= server123 logical drive monitor threshold less then 5 percent free space cpu monitor threshold greater then 90 percent available memory threshold greater then 85 percent event id 6555 i need to be able to do this for all devices. I also need to be able to do groups of devices not just one at a time. also I would like to do this by infrastructure view and business view. this is very important
