Issue with Desktop Central build 90023 showing patches needed but the patches are already applied.
I have one computer on my network that all of a sudden showed that it needed 18 patches, even though the patches were already applied on that computer. I have waited several weeks hoping that another patch application might reset the computer but so far it still shows all those patches are needed. I have tried rescanning the computer and then reapply the patches and it always comes back that they are already applied but the computer does not come off the list for needed patches, it still shows
Decline IE 11 in Patch Management...
All, I see many patches to Internet Explorer 11 that can be declined, but I don't see the Internet Explorer 11 installation update to be declined. Anyone know which specific KB installs IE11 so the I can decline it, but still include all updates of previous versions of IE up to 11? Thanks in advance for your help...
Dynamic Custom group under All Systems View
In Patch Management and All Systems view, the filter does not show Dynamic Custom Groups. It does show static groups. I am looking to see what patches are missing only in my dynamic group of servers.
Two new false positive detections in Patch Mgmt
Desktop Central 9 (build 90032) Just updated vulnerability DB overnight, and now our 148 Win 7 x64 workstations with MS Office 2010 (most x86 but some x64) are showing two false positive patch detections: 15272 MS14-017 Security Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2863919) 32-Bit April 8, 2014 15274 MS14-017 Security Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2863919) 64-Bit April 8, 2014 I've downloaded the patches through Desktop Central and attempted to install them to one of our workstations, but
Shockwave update 12.1.2.152 fails
Hi all Did anyone manage to install the latest Shockwave patch? I have tested this on several PCs but I am getting a "fatal error" on all of them. The Windows event log revealed the following: Product: Adobe Shockwave Player 12.1 -- Error 1316.A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:Program FilesDesktopCentral_Agentpatches300885-sw_lic_full_installer.msi Thanks Stefan
No Targets Available
I just setup my Desktop Central and have it working fine. I'm in the process of using the patch manager and for some reason on 1 Windows 7 machine, when I deploy patches, I get a "No targets available" message on the config screen. Anyone have any ideas? Same setup as all my other machines and same make/model laptop as several others that are working fine.

OfficeUpdateError: No product installed for contained patch.
Hi, I have a few computers where I get this error, when trying to patch. OfficeUpdateError: No product installed for contained patch. Which is weird error, as if this is the case, then why does the scan see the patch as missing if there is no product for it.
Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1
Hi Support, We have Visual Studio 2010 installed and I am trying to find out which computers need the Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1 and SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 3 installed, but when I scan the computers DC does not inform me that the computer needs this service pack installed or any mention of it. When I check "Vulnerability Summary, Applications" I can see that Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Professional Gold is installed. I thought that DC scanned for missing service packs for
Patch folder
What will happen if I delete the entire contents of the \webapps\DesktopCentral\store folder? This folder currently contains all the downloaded patches and installs. It looks as if many of the patches are no longer required - BUT if I delete ALL the files will DesktopCentral re-populate the ones I still need? Or do I need to ONLY delete the ones that are no longer required? (This will take much more time as I would have to run a report of the outstanding patches.) Many thanks, Tony
DC wrongly "thinks" new Adobe Reader 11.0.07 update has already been deployed !?!
I could not believe it: I did not found the new Adobe Reader update 11.0.07 under "Missing patches" Then I found the Adobe Reader update 11.0.07 in the view "Applicable patches" where I see that more than 100 computers should already have this new patch (column 'Installed Systems'). But, that is completely impossible. We don't use the "Automate Patch Deployment" feature. And I did not deployed this new patch yet. DC even says that my computer already has the new Adobe reader patch - but I can easily
Patch Management - Duplicate OU names and defining a target
Hello, I am trying to define our "Laptops" OU as a target but it's not working. We have a few Child OU's with the same name but under different Parent OU's. When selecting the OU, it only shows the OU Name and not the Distinguished Name. Do I need unique OU Names for the "Define a Target" to work.
Severity Ratings
Hi All, I'm new to Desktop Central (DC) so apologies if this turns out to be an error on my part. It seems the severity rating for Microsoft security updates classified by DC as unrated will at times differ from Microsoft's severity rating. As an example: "Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB2931356)". This shows as unrated in DC but when reading the corresponding security bulletin (MS14-026), this is stated
The Specified Serrvice Does Not Exist
Is anyone else getting this message on some clients when installing patches? "The specified service does not exist as an installed service" I tried re installing the agent to no avail.

Patch Configurations
I hope someone can help me out. I am a little confused on patch configurations. When I manually deploy patches a configuration is always created. What can I do with these configurations? For example can a patch configuration be reused? Can it be scheduled? Or am I looking at patch configurations the wrong way. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank You
IE Patch Release Inetcpl.cpl error
Good Morning, We released through Desktop Central the IE patch from blletin MS14-021 last night and about 5-10 machines so far this morning can't use IE. They are all getting the attached error regarding inetcpl.cpl and we are having to roll them back. Again, only 5-10 but more might pop up. Any ideas?? This was definitely the patch that caused this.
Update for RemoteApp and Desktop Connection for Windows
Please make the following patches available as regular updates for Desktop Central. KB2830477 KB2857650
Install MS Office 2013 Service Pack 1
Hi, We have about 10 desktops with MS Office 2013. These desktops are not directly connected to the Internet hence they rely on desktop central to push through the patches. I have not come across MS Office 2013 Service Pack 1 patch, Which once approved will be automatically pushed through the desktops. Kind Regards Utkarsh Doshi
MS14-021 - Internet Explorer Security Update
Now that Microsoft has released a patch for the Internet Explorer vulnerability in Security Bulletin MS14-021, when can we expect to see it as part of our vulnerability database within Desktop Central's Patch Management?
Desktop Central Custom Group / Dynamic By IP range
Good Afternoon, I was wondering if it has been considered the creation of Custom Groups based on IP range. For example I very often setup a functino of groups as a /24. Or we assign resources doing function X to 4 diffrent Class 24s. I would think from a custom layout you would want to to have the option of 1.) CIDR 2.) Range 3.) List Most likely with a later or considered report function around the same catagory. Thanks!
Patch already installed -- but Desktop Central try to install
Hello, don´t know, if there is a way to suppress such warnings or better question, if there are patches already installed, why try the Desktop Central to install such Patches? If you can see at the atteched picture, there are some Patches, for which the Desktop Central Software themselve say, these Patches are already installed, but at the same time, they say, these Patches are missing. We try to rescan several times, reboot the affected PC and rescan again....still the same...on one site it say
How to deploy updates for Java Development Kit (JDK)?
JDK does not appear in the All Patches view like JRE. How do others deploy JDK patches?
Zero Day Adobe Flash Player Fix?
Curious to know when the today released zero day Adobe Flash Player Fix will be made available via Desktop Central.
Invalid checksums when downloading JRE 7 update 55 patches
I tried downloading the new JRE 7 Update 55 (x86 and x64) updates this morning. They downloaded fine, but I got an error about invalid checksums, and they are still listed as "Not Downloaded". I've seen this in the past with a faulty Vulnerability DB update. Can anyone confirm this, or is there some action I need to take? Thanks.
Best practice for overnight patching using WoL
Hi, I've always previously relied on emailing batches of users asking them to leave their PC's on one night for a preset configuration to fire off and patch up their PC's. I'm sure you can imagine the percentage of people that actually remember! Anyway, what I've done instead is go round to each PC and enable Wake on LAN so I can wake them up in the evenings and fire off a patch configuration, now, what I would like to do is set all this up to be done automatically so I've divided the company up
MS Office 2013 Service Pack 1
Hi Support, I was wondering when the MS Office 2013 Service Pack 1 is going to made available in Desktop Central for rolling out. Thanks, Billy.

Spelling Mistake
Hi, There seems to be a spelling mistake in the patch management section for a machine that has yet to be scanned. I'm presuming that instead of "identying", it should read "identifying". This is our version number. Kind regards. Martin
Patch Management Exceptions
Programming for patch deployment doesn't seem intuitive. I'm doing Patch Mgmt -> All Systems I want to do Remote Office = Distribution Server AND Custom Group != Exceptions My intent is to get all the computers on that server then exclude the small group of exceptions. I suspect when adding the Custom Group != the programming is first verifying that there is a custom group present then excluding those in MO_Exceptions. This isn't intuitive. Not all of my computers are in are in a custom group nor
Disable Patch non-microsoft ?
Desktop Central have a non-microsoft patch like java or flash player. My answer is whether it is possible to disable one or several softwares because we have several problems with our software if it upgrade.
Customize patch deployment/approval
Currently patches can be approved or rejected, but this applies to all machines in a domain. It would be useful to be able to deploy specific patches to specific machines or groups as well as exclude specific machines from specific patches. Right now, I have two machines that can't get a specific patch, so I have to exclude them from all automated patch management and patch them manually. Customization would also be useful so patches could be deployed to test machines or groups before they are deployed
Installing Windows Service Packs
Is it me or do I just not see the install service pack option that you show in a link from our admin console. this is your link to the image http://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/images/windows-service-pack-deployment.jpg we are on build 80354 I go to that same page and I do not see install service pack
Windows Updates & Patch Management compatibility
Dear all, I would like to know what is the best practice for windows updates when patch management is managed through Desktop Central. Should I disable (for instance with a group policy) Windows Updates on computers side and let Desktop Central manage the deployment of those updates. Or Should I let them both enabled (Windows Updates & Patch management in DesktopCentral) ? are they compatible together or if I enabled patch management in DesktopCentral it will affect Windows Updates? Thanks
More false positives on Win 7 + SP1 (x64)
This morning I found three more false positive detections in Desktop Central 8 (80354) on all 142 of our Win 7 + SP1 (x64) Enterprise workstations: Patch ID Bulletin ID Patch Description 500029 SP-013 MS Office 2003 Web Components SP 1 98951 MSWU-631 Security Update for Win 7 x64 (KB2861855) 11958 MS12-036 Security Update for Win 7 x64 (KB2685939) They hadn't been showing as missing yesterday; updated the vulnerability DB overnight. I downloaded the three patches
WSUS reporting different status than Desktop Central
Hi, I have been testing Desktop Central as a replacement for WSUS. I notice that on one of our servers, DC reports no missing security updates. WSUS however, reports that KB2807986 (MS13-027) is still required for installation. The patch is definately approved in DC, and I have run the scan successfully a few times just in case. Is there something wrong with this Microsoft update? Or is the problem with WSUS.
Turn off Deployment Polices
Okay, so we have just updated our Desktop Central to the latest build (80340) and everything is working fine, but we're not too keen on the new Deployment Policies when trying to push out updates. We were wondering if there was a way to disable that feature and push updates the way we did with your previous builds?
Update Vulnerability DB fails
I had to fall back to a backup of our Desktop Central server, version 80001 (July 2012). I applied successive service packs and releases to bring it back up to version 80262, and I reapplied the new license file so that it's registered through July 2014. Things are almost back to normal, but when I try to manually "Update Vulnerability DB" the process runs, getting to the point of downloading patch SQLs (successfully) and then syncing security updates (fails after a couple of minutes). I tried
