How to create a default configuration to apply to all current and future desktops?
I created a configuration to set the default browser homepage and deployed it to all current users, but I would like it to automatically apply to new users (and new desktops when the DC agent gets installed).
Force server to specific IP
Hello guys, I have couple IPs hanging on my box. But I would like to force the DC server to specific address. https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/desktop-central-server-ip-binding.html The above article doesn't help. After those changes, the service is trying to start (the tray icon status), but it looks like the ports change to 10 from 8020 both After couple of minutes the service stops and nothing happens. Should I be able to apply a Configuration to a Custom Group
I'm new to the product so maybe I'm misunderstanding how to go about something and hope someone can help me out. I have a site with 10 machines in it and I'd like to deploy software and configurations to just one of those machines. From the Admin tab I created a Custom Group and populated it with the one machine I want to target. On the Configurations page I selected a Configuration that runs a script from the script repository and then tried to target just the machine I want to work with by choosing
use current logged on credentials
Hello, It would be great if desktop central and any other products applicable would have an option to use the current logged on credentials of the user, or have an option where it only asked you for credentials one time and saved them as opposed to forcing a user to put in the same credentials every time for every operation. thank you -sean
How can I remove junk Metro apps?
When I manually build a machine I run a script while logged on as the local administrator that removes many of the extra Windows metro crap. I would like to accomplish the same thing using DC-MSP but have not yet figured out how to make it work. I'm open to solutions that don't include my script but work with DC-MSP and wondering how others accomplish the same thing. Here's what I normally run... Custom Script says it executed, but doesn't actually
I'm sending the following command through a Custom Script to one machine powershell -noprofile Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned -Force This command works fine when I run it manually from a command prompt running under the System account on the server. However, when I push it through the Custom Script option in Desktop Central, it reports that it executed successfully, but the ExcecutionPolicy is not actually changed on the server. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
Launch a .cmd batch file as a network admin per computer
I need to run a .cmd file as a network admin user on each computer. The .cmd file checks the version of certain files, copies down new files from a network share if needed and then initiates a silent software install from a network share. I need to do this per computer not per user. I have tried several methods, Launch application, launch application as a cmd.exe, add to software packages as cmd.exe with all the command lines. I cannot get it to be launched or if it is it does not run correctly.

Best Practices
Hello, We want all of our servers to look at Desktop Central for Windows Updates and not download them automatically from Microsoft. What is the best practice for that? Are there recommended settings for Group Policy. For example, Do we set the domain group policy to disable automatic updates or disable the Windows update service?
Software Whitelist
Is there a configuration where user is unable to run application (EXE or MSI) that is not listed in inventory (which I refer as whitelist)? Our whitelist is way smaller than our blacklist. Trying to go through our black list currently on inventory would take up more time than just adding a whitelist of software approved that people can have going forward and if its not on that list than they can not install it. Adding Multiple Domain in seperate Forests
Hi, I have a question that i have asked to the Desktop Central live chat but till now i got no reply. Is it possible to add multiple domains that are in separate forests. These forests are in separate physical location and i would like to manage the domain from the desktop central. I manage to communicate to the domain controller by installing the agent via direct communication. But i would like to install the domain controller as a distribution server for the other agents within the LAN. Glenn

I'm going crazy! What is the idea with the way the agent is deployed? Why can't I just download it, install and configure witch management server it is supposed to report to from the client? I have computers that are never on local network, always on WAN, not in a domain... How do I deploy to those?

When you modify existing deployment and you want to add new computer to list. Then you deploy this again it will start the deployment again for every computer. Is there a possibility to retain existing deployment status for existing computers?

User Software Configuration - Same User on Multiple Devices
Hi Everyone I have 200 workstations. All are on a workgroup and use local user accounts. All user accounts have the same name. How can I deploy a User Software Configuration to a user called 'Standard User' - but on all 200 machines? I have found that the configuration will only deploy to the 1st machine that the agent reports that user logged onto.

Update to 92099 Desktop Central fails and backs out.
Hi There, I have been trying to update from 92077 to 92082 and then 92099. Each time the update manager ran it would warn about making sure the Virus scan was excluding the directory. No anti virus was installed on the server. Install would run and then at last minute it would back changes out. I found an error in the log file about no db .old file found. I have run the update over 5 times with no success, turning off services etc to try and isolate the problem. Now the server will not start, and
Cannot delete old software packages
Error message is: Package cannot be deleted. It is used in the following configuration : "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX" Problem is that we cannot find this "XXXXXXXXXXXX" configuration anywhere anymore and it's still preventing us from deleting some old software packages: User who originally created this configuration is already deleted from Desktop Central. Does anyone know how I can manually trigger a Desktop Central Asset Inventory from a system without using Desktop Central Asset Scan? Functionality of Custom Group
Hi there I got some need where I could use Custom Group, but.. Can't understand functionality of Custom Group. For example - Create Group with machines where Skype 6.x Installed (Software Name = "Skype 6") but I can't see this group when try to create deployment Our build 92082, previously we used Custom group to export lists and copy/paste them to targets but now it's impossible to paste many machines. Handing of Missed Deployment while using APD
recently we started testing Desktop Central to replace our patch deployment solution (WSUS junk) and after setting up 2 groups (Monday and Friday) for nightly updates I've seen that 2 people whose PC's were out of the building (laptops) both have missed deployment schedule. Currently we are testing with Monday 00-06am and Friday 00-06am deployment policy. We have daily scan/download policy to make sure all patches are available and deployed. What is the recommended handling or configuring deployment

Configuration Status Updates Not working - Build 92095
I'm having an issue with configuration status updates not changing. Everything seems to be working with the exception of the config update status. All clients show the same behavior. Select deploy all missing patches (scheduled or immediate) Client receives the task, install the patches, reboots if specified Configuration always shows ready to apply Software deployment configuration status updates correctly. I need to install and enable the SNMP service on my desktops (for Opmanager to see them). Is there a way to install Windows components using DE? Configuration check
If I create a configuration for all users to place an entry in the registry and that entry is deleted by the user. Folder Size Custom Script
I am about to do upgrades and need to know how to check specific folder sizes. The custom script to check folder size suggests using <Documents>, <Music>, etc as a script argument. Currently MS transfer the management from GPO to MDM, it would be great to support GPO Settings through the configurations and add the ability to manage the devices through MDM! Currently we must manually add the registry keys to the clients via the configurations, this is not the best solution.
Collection Wizard
Is there rational for why we cant install software and then take other following steps in the collection wizard. Example being I need to push software but then push a configuration file and restart the service after installation In today's world i need to install the application then follow up with a collection that updates the file and restarts the service.
