How to reinstall or update the ADSelfService Plus Windows login agent via the admin console
Objective
This article explains how to reinstall or update the ADSelfService Plus Windows login agent on a managed Windows device directly from the admin console. The login agent enables end users to securely reset passwords and unlock accounts from the Windows login screen.
Reinstallation may be required after configuration changes in the admin portal. Updates are typically necessary when deploying a newer version of ADSelfService Plus or resolving deployment failures or agent-related issues.
Prerequisites
Machine privileges: You need administrative privileges on the target machines.
ADSelfService Plus privileges: You need administrator privileges in ADSelfService Plus.
Network reachability: The target machines must be reachable over the network by the ADSelfService Plus server via its hostname or IP address.
DNS resolution: The target machines must be able to resolve the ADSelfService Plus server's hostname via DNS to ensure successful communication.
Firewall and antivirus configuration:
Windows Firewall on the target machines should allow File and Printer Sharing and Remote Service Management (RPC).
Ensure that no antivirus software or other security tools are blocking WMI or remote deployment protocols.
Steps to reinstall or update the Windows login agent
Log in to ADSelfService Plus as an administrator.
Navigate to Configuration > Administrative Tools > GINA/Mac/Linux (Ctrl+Alt+Del) > GINA/Mac/Linux Installation.
From the Select Domain drop-down, select the domain where the target machines are located.
Navigate to the Installed Machines tab.
Select the check boxes for the computers where you want to reinstall or update the Windows login agent.
Click Reinstall.
The agent will be reinstalled on the selected machines without interrupting the end users' current sessions or requiring their input.
Validation and confirmation
After reinstallation:
On the target machines, verify that the Reset Password / Unlock Account link is visible on the Windows login screen.
Return to the Installed Machines tab in the GINA/Mac/Linux Installation section in the admin console.
Ensure the Status for the target machines is Successfully Reinstalled.
