How to automatically backup the ADSelfService Plus database

Objective     

The ADSelfService Plus database contains critical data necessary for the application's functionality. To safeguard against potential data loss, the application provides an automatic database backup feature. This feature allows administrators to schedule regular backups, ensuring data is preserved and recoverable in the event of a failure or unexpected issue.

Prerequisite     

  • Administrative access to the ADSelfService Plus portal.

Steps to follow     

To configure automatic database backups:
  1. Log in to the ADSelfService Plus admin portal.
  2. Navigate to Admin > Product Settings > Backup Settings.
  3. Choose the desired Backup Frequency:
    • Daily
    • Weekly
    • Monthly
  4. Specify the storage path where the backup files should be saved.
    • You can select a local path on the ADSelfService Plus server or a network shared path (e.g., \\YourServer\ShareName\ADSSPBackup).
    • If no custom path is provided, backups will be stored by default in are stored in: C:\Program Files\ManageEngine\ADSelfService Plus\Backup.
  1. Configure retention settings to limit storage usage.
  • To retain a specific number of backup files, select Last N Files and enter the desired number.
  • To retain backups based on file age, select Last N Days and specify the number of days to retain files.
  • Alternatively, choose All Files to retain all backup files without deletion.
Notes
 Note: Older files exceeding the configured limit will be deleted automatically to conserve disk space. 
  1. Click Save Settings.
Once configured, the database will be backed up automatically at the set frequency. Each backup is stored as a .zip file.

Validation and confirmation     

To verify that the automatic backup is functioning correctly, navigate to the configured storage path and confirm the presence of recent backup .zip files with timestamps matching the scheduled intervals.
