Error: Access denied for the provided shared path

Error: Access denied for the provided shared path

Issue description

Users may encounter the following error when executing schedule reports:
Access denied for the provided shared path.
This typically occurs due to insufficient permissions, incorrect path configurations, or network issues.

Possible causes

  1. Insufficient permissions: The service account lacks the Read permissions for the shared path.

  2. Invalid shared path: The specified path is incorrect or no longer accessible.

  3. Network issues: Connectivity problems prevent access to the shared path.

Prerequisites

  • Ensure ADManager Plus is installed and configured properly.

  • Verify that the service account is correctly set up in services.msc.

  • Confirm that the service account has the Read and Write permissions for the shared path.

  • Ensure the network connection to the shared path is stable.

  • Validate that the shared path is correct and accessible.

Resolution

Step 1: Update the service account credentials

  1. Open the Run dialog by using Windows + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter to launch the services console.

  2. Locate ManageEngine ADManager Plus in the list of services.

  3. Right-click the service and choose Properties.

  4. Go to the Log On tab.

  5. Select This account, then enter the Username and Password of the desired service account.

  6. Click OK to save your changes and close the window.

Step 2: Verify the shared path

  1. Identify the UNC path (e.g., \\ServerName\ShareName) configured in the scheduled report of ADManager Plus.

  1. Log in to the ADManager Plus server and ensure that the account used is the same as the one configured under the Log On tab for the ManageEngine ADManager Plus service in services.msc.

  1. Open File Explorer and enter the UNC path in the address bar, then click Enter.

  2. Ensure the folder is accessible and its contents are visible.

  3. If the folder cannot be accessed, check for typos in the path and verify network connectivity.

Step 3: Check and set permissions on the shared folder

  1. On the server hosting the shared folder, right-click the folder and select Properties.

  2. Go to the Security tab and click Edit.

  3. Click Add, enter the service account’s username, and click OK.

  4. Select the service account and ensure both Read and Write permissions are checked.

  5. Click Apply and OK to save the changes.

  6. Optionally, in the Sharing tab, go to Advanced Sharing > Permissions and confirm the service account has appropriate access at the share level.

Step 4: Restart the ADManager Plus Service

  1. Return to the services console.

  2. Right-click ManageEngine ADManager Plus and select .Restart

  3. Wait for the service to restart.

  4. Confirm that the service is running under the correct service account.

Tips

  • Regularly review the shared path permissions to prevent access issues.

  • Monitor network stability to avoid connectivity-related errors.
