Getting Started

Q: What is Applications Manager AppLogs?

A: Applications Manager AppLogs is a log management solution that automatically discovers and uploads your server and application logs to Applications Manager for centralized monitoring and analysis.

Q: Do I need to install AppLogs separately if I already have the FSO agent?

A: No. AppLogs comes bundled with the Applications Manager FSO agent as a sub-agent. You just need to enable and configure it.


Installation & Agent Management

Q: How do I manually install or reinstall the AppLogs agent?

A: You can manually install or reinstall the AppLogs agent by following the platform-specific steps. View installation guide

Q: How do I disable the AppLogs agent?

A: Navigate to AppLogs tab → Deploy Agent → SubAgents and click Disable for the required server. You can also disable multiple servers at once using the Chosen Agents dropdown in the Sub Agent Management window.

Q: What happens to my log data when I disable the AppLogs agent?

A: Existing log data is retained and not removed. Only new log collection stops until the agent is re-enabled.


Log Collection

Q: How frequently does the AppLogs agent upload logs?

A: The AppLogs agent uploads logs every 30 seconds or as soon as 40 MB of logs are collected, whichever comes first. This applies individually per log type.

Q: Can I configure the log upload interval?

A: No. The 30-second interval and 40 MB threshold are fixed and cannot be configured.

Q: How do I filter out unwanted logs before uploading?

A: Navigate to AppLogs tab → AppLogs Configuration → Log Types, hover over the field name EventID, and click the filter icon. Under Filter Log Lines at Source, select Doesn't Match and enter the event IDs you want to exclude. Learn more


Data Retention

Q: How long does Applications Manager retain my logs?

A: You can choose from predefined retention options: 7, 15, 30, 60, or 90 days. Once the retention period expires, logs are automatically deleted.

Q: Can I set different retention periods for different log types?

A: Yes. Navigate to AppLogs tab → AppLogs Configuration → Log Types, select the log type, and set the desired Search Retention (days) value.


Licensing

Q: How does AppLogs licensing work?

A: The AppLogs license is based on the volume of log data (GB) uploaded during a monthly billing cycle. It resets automatically at the start of each billing cycle.

Q: Does the retention period affect my license consumption?

A: No. License consumption is based solely on the volume of data uploaded, not on how long you retain it.

Q: What happens if I exhaust my monthly log limit?

A: New logs will not be uploaded until the next billing cycle. You can also purchase additional add-ons to extend your limit. Contact appmanager-support@manageengine.com for assistance.
