[Blog] 8 safety recommendations for working from home "WFH"

The coronavirus pandemic has forced most employees to remain at home in most parts of the world and pushed into a novel territory "work from home" (WFH).

This certainly allures the intruders to explore the possibilities to gain access to sensitive data which could be crucial to your organization and cybercrimes will increase at this time.

Here are some tips to shun cyber attacks,

1. Educate employees with basic security knowledge. Say, how to beware of phishing emails, avoid using public Wi-Fi networks or open networks, reset default passwords, ensure the home network is sufficiently secured and verify the security of the devices that they use to get work done. Ensure that employees know what to do if their device is lost or stolen.

2. Protect devices with antivirus software. That means virus checkers, firewalls, device encryption should all be enabled.

3. Deploy mobile device management (MDM) to set up devices with a standard configuration, and also to remotely lock devices, erase data or retrieve a backup.

4. Provide your employees with VPN access. One way to secure data between an organization and remote-based employees is to deploy a VPN as it provides an additional layer of security.

5. Increase user accounts security. Enable two-factor authentication.

6. Ensure all software is updated. Enable auto-update on all your devices.

7. It is important to mark the boundaries between work life and personal life while WFH, the same is true of devices. Encourage your employees to separate devices for work and personal. Develop the habit of locking the devices while stepping away even for a minute.

8. Avoid the use of USB sticks. USB devices can contain lots of sensitive data, but are also easily lost and can be an easy way for malware to find their way onto devices.

On a different note,

This is a big adjustment for many like me.

When working from home, ensure you choose a comfortable working area that provides you a healthy posture, minimal distraction from others, and where your presence has the least impact on others. Take breaks at regular intervals to stretch your legs, and give your eyes a rest.

Stay safe, everyone! Cheers..!
