Writing Binary Registry Values
Hi, Is there a trick to writing REG_BINARY values using Desktop Central? When these values get exported in a registry file they export in the format "SomeRegValue"=hex:12,ef,c0,.....etc I have tried taking the data that comes after =hex: and putting this as my Value Data / Expression but it doesn't work. It looks like Desktop Central is rewriting the values so when they are written to the registry, the HEX values no longer look like they do when they get imported from a .reg file. Is there anyway

How Do I create A Scheduled Report For MDM?
I want to run a scheduled report for "devices with/without a specifc app," but I only see that option for manual reports. When I try to schedule a report, that option isn't there. I tried making it a custom report, but that only gives me options for desktops and NOT MDM. Please help.
Desktop Central - Inventory Page - "Summary generation in progress ..." is stuck until I restart the DC Service.
When I click on "Generate Summary", it gets stuck at "Summary generation in progress" until I restart the DC Service. This can happen for days until I manually restart the service.
Desktop Central agent updating ServiceDesk Plus
I am running both Desktop Central and Servicedesk Plus and would like some clarification regarding the agents for both system. I have integrated the two system. 1. Do the assets require both system agents to be installed or does Desktop Central take priority? 2. File Folder Operation cannot be saved
Dear all, I added a File Folder Operation to copy a configuration file to client computers. I can save this operation, with luck, just one time. After changing something and aditional saving, I recieve an error to add the target folder. But the target folder already exist and it's an folder on the computer. When sending an announcement, it never displays on the selected users.. if you go back into the announcement and show execution status, it shows as announcement expired even though it is within the start time and end time of the announcement..

German umlauts are not correctly displayed in the Desktop agent
Hi Team, not sure if this the right sub forum but i´m brave and just write it down. If i install the Desktop Central Agent on workstations with german operating system, the umlauts are not displaying correctly. In this example (attechment "zoho") "unzul'\u00e4'ssige" instead of "unzulässige". The other thing, we do not have configure prohibited software, but the Agent at the workstation shows this picture (attechment "zoho1"). This means, all users think they have prohibited software installed. And
Chat window disappears in Windows 8
Chat window seems to work fine in Windows 7, but not in Windows 8. It pops up, but then disappears. Is this a known issue that is being addressed? I am on the latest DC-MSP build.

hi we like to monitor some of our user activity 1) when they logon and also when they unlock from a locked screen and when screens are locked 2) to create a historical report so we can see who was logged in during a particular period of time (couple of weeks) 3) being able to do this from desktop central currently the AD login report is very basic and only seems to show current logged in users but there is no way (as far as i can see) to track when a user logged in to a computer and when they either

I am trying to find a way to run a command on a remote thin client (to disable the write filter so I can install other software). is there a way to run a script, bat or cmd file only - without it included as a pre/post script to a package install? Adding User to User Administration
Hi @ll, I just finished the testing time and decide for the free version. Now I just have only my AD-useraccount left in the user-administration. I want to add the domain administrator also as admin for desktopcentral. That's impossible, because after clicking "add user" an error appear: "Licensed user limit reached. Patch Management Exceptions
Programming for patch deployment doesn't seem intuitive. I'm doing Patch Mgmt -> All Systems I want to do Remote Office = Distribution Server AND Custom Group != Exceptions My intent is to get all the computers on that server then exclude the small group of exceptions. I suspect when adding the Custom Group != the programming is first verifying that there is a custom group present then excluding those in MO_Exceptions. This isn't intuitive. Where is scheduled shutdown started from?
Hi, We will have planned power outages in several different buildings this weekend. Some of the computers need to be available untill the last moment, so I want to schedule them to be shutdown. So far no problem, however the outage in the building the Desktop Central server is running in is before the others and we don't have our new UPS yet. Therefore my question: When I schedule a shutdown, where is the schedule saved? Is the command sent to the client right away and then executed from there
Setting proxy server based on IP address
How can I set the proxy server settings based on ip address? I have several users who moved frequently between Remote Offices. Because the Internet Explorer configuration is a User Config, I can't set it based on IP address like I can the Firewall Config. Any ideas?
An unusual problem

Renaming local admin account?
Hello, I have an interesting issue. I have installed DesktopCentral 8 using the free license of 25 computers. However, I didn't realize there was a one admin limit. The interesting part is that the built in admin account stayed put when I added my own account via the AD integration. I deleted the built in admin account and now, cannot add another account besides the AD admin account. What I would like to do is, remove the AD account and revert back to the built in admin account if possible. Any

Can someone please explain how the "Inventory" tab in Desktop Central relates to the "Assets" tab in ServiceDesk Plus" ? Both are installed on the same the server (Windows 2008 R2). It appears that the DesktopCentral Agent take president over the SDP agent.. Can you confirm that? Should both agents be installed on the workstation? Rename Folders
Hi, I recently had a situation where I needed to rename a folder on a bunch of computers. I had 2 folders that I was working with: Folder and FolderNew The rename was supposed to work like this: Folder --> FolderOld FolderNew --> Folder I used the Configuration for File Folder Operation. I entered in my renames as they appear above. I then saved my configuration. When I went back in and checked, Desktop Central had reversed the order of the folder rename so it looked like this. FolderNew --> Folder
Should be simple...how to I push a file to the desktop for a group of users?
I have a shortcut I want to deploy to a group of people who all use the same software. I would like to place the file right on their desktop. That's all that has to happen. The program doesn't change at all, it's just the shortcut that needs to be deployed. I tried "shortcut" under configurations, but that wants me to select a program for it to create a shortcut for. PLEASE HELP!
Skype and Java Updating best practices
We have been using DC for a few months now and I am constantly running into issues with Skype and Java always been in use, therefore, the update can never apply. I'm assuming this is because Java and Skype open on boot by default, which causes them to always be running. Has anyone else dealt with this before? Should we tell our computers not to allow these programs to start on boot? Would this solve the issue?
Creating custom groups from inventory reports
Hi I would like to request a more advanced Custom Group feature, it would be nice if I could generate a report, for example a software report for all computers that have a Adobe Reader 9 installed, And then just mark all computers and create a group. Atm I have to export all computers to a csv file, then import in excel, then edit the document so it only contains computernames, add a coma to each and then copy it back into DC to make the group. Or am I missing something? Maybe there is an easier

Steps to Migrate anyway from SMS & WSUS to Desktop Central 8

Logs folder on Agent
More of a general question. On the agent installed on workstations, how often is the logs folder cleared out? Looking at the one on my system and it contains over 331MB worth of log files.. Is there a routine or a configuration to run to clear this folder or does the server take care of this when it wants to :) Gil
Disable Patch non-microsoft ?
Desktop Central have a non-microsoft patch like java or flash player. My answer is whether it is possible to disable one or several softwares because we have several problems with our software if it upgrade.
