Technical Support

I am trying to execute an action trough ssh on a remote linux machine for example to start the sendmail
what should I write in the Directory to execute Program box ?
I tried several things like:
/etc/init.d/sendmail start
or putting the above command in a file
and write /tmp/sendmailscritpt.sh

nothing seems to work

Please advise
