Copy Files over Internet

We are deploying Desktop Central to manage computers over the public internet as well as our internal network, but I'm running into an issue. Does anyone know how or can suggest a secure, good way to copy files from the server to the workstations? The configuration works perfectly within our internal network using a UNC share, but that's not an option over the public internet.
