data archiving

data archiving

Archiving old requests is often overlooked despite its importance in maintaining optimal application performance. Storing years of requests in your ServiceDesk Plus database can gradually impact performance, causing searches, reports, backups and upgrades to take longer to complete.

Regularly archiving older work order records helps you:

  1. Reduce the size of your production database.
  2. Improve overall system performance by searching only active data.
  3. Accelerate searches and report generation.
  4. Manage database growth more effectively.
  5. Reduce backup and maintenance overhead.
  6. Keep active data focused on ongoing support operations.
  7. Support and enforce organizational data retention policies.

Administrators can customize the archival frequency to suit their requirements or disable the process if needed. Once the archival process is enabled and a schedule runs every 24 hours to archive requests based on the configuration.

A well-planned archiving strategy helps keep your ServiceDesk Plus environment responsive and efficient while preserving historical records for future reference.

Archived requests are moved to a table named arc_workorder. That said, it is a best practice to ensure archive data can be located when required. Archived requests can be accessed from the application UI.

You can also generate custom reports for archived requests. For more detailed information, please refer to the following documentation.
