Issue description

While configuring or collecting logs from Hitachi NAS devices, ADAudit Plus may show the error:
The system cannot find the path specified or The system cannot find the file specified.
This indicates that ADAudit Plus is unable to locate or access the audit log files due to incorrect path configurations or missing permissions.

Prerequisites

  • You must have access to the ADAudit Plus server and its web console.

  • Administrator privileges are required to access and configure the Hitachi NAS web console.

  • Ensure the service account used by ADAudit Plus has the required permissions.

  • The logging directory (audit file path) must be properly configured in both ADAudit Plus and the Hitachi NAS device.

Possible causes

  • The path configured in ADAudit Plus does not match the actual audit log path on the Hitachi NAS.

  • The service account used by ADAudit Plus lacks access to the logging directory.

  • Audit files (EVT files) are missing from the specified path.

Resolution

Step 1: Verify service account access to audit files

  1. Open File Explorer on the ADAudit Plus server.

  2. In the left pane, click Network.

  3. Double-click the target Hitachi NAS server that contains the shared folder.

  4. Navigate to the audit logging directory as configured in ADAudit Plus:

    • Go to File Audit > Configured Servers > Hitachi NAS, and identify the path.

  1. Confirm that the service account running ADAudit Plus can access this share.

  2. Alternatively, run the UNC path directly in File Explorer to check access:

  • \\<Hitachi_Server_Name>\<Logging_Directory>

If access is denied, ensure the service account has the required read permissions on the logging share.

Step 2: Verify audit path configuration

  1. Log in to the Hitachi web console.

  2. Navigate to: Home > File Services > File System Audit Policies > File System Audit Policy Details.

  3. Note the value of the Logging Directory field.

  4. Cross-verify this path with what is configured in the ADAudit Plus console under File Audit > Configured Servers > Hitachi NAS.

  5. Ensure both paths match exactly.

Step 3: Check for file existence

  1. On the ADAudit Plus server, navigate to the configured audit file directory using File Explorer.

  2. Verify that the EVT log files exist in the directory.

  3. If no files are present, ADAudit Plus will be unable to process logs, leading to the error.
