Issue description

In ADAudit Plus, you may encounter errors such as "Share not found", "Error in getting shares", or "Access is denied" when trying to fetch audit data from a Synology NAS device. This usually indicates a connectivity issue or insufficient permissions for the configured service account.

Prerequisites

  • The Synology NAS should be configured under File Audit > Configured Servers.

  • The user account configured in Domain Settings should have appropriate permissions to access the share.

  • DNS resolution must work between the ADAudit Plus server and the Synology NAS.

Possible causes

  • The Synology NAS server is unreachable from the ADAudit Plus server.

  • The domain user account used in ADAudit Plus lacks sufficient privileges to access shared folders.

  • DNS resolution for the Synology server name fails.

Resolution

  1. Verify connectivity to the Synology server

    • Log in to the ADAudit Plus web console.

    • Navigate to File Audit > Configured Servers > Synology NAS and select your domain.

    • Note the name of the Synology server showing the error.

    • On the ADAudit Plus server, open Command Prompt and run:

    • ping <Synology_server_name>

    • If the ping fails, either append the DNS suffix in the server’s TCP/IP advanced settings or add a host record in your DNS server mapping the Synology server name to its IP address.

  1. Verify permissions of the configured user account

    • Ensure the domain user account configured in ADAudit Plus has read access to the audit file shares (EVT/EVTX directories) on the Synology NAS.

    • Log in to the Synology DSM interface and review shared folder permissions for the domain user. Grant access if needed.
