Issue Description

ADAudit Plus displays the error The system cannot find the path specified when attempting to collect audit data from an EMC server. This prevents successful event log collection and can impact reporting.

Possible causes

  • The EMC server is unreachable from the ADAudit Plus server due to network issues.

  • The configured audit file path in ADAudit Plus is incorrect or the files have been moved.

  • Audit policies are not configured properly on the EMC server.

  • File-level or share-level permissions prevent access to the audit location.

Prerequisites

Before proceeding with the resolution steps, ensure:

  • ADAudit Plus has the correct audit location path configured for the EMC server.

  • You have administrative access to both ADAudit Plus and the EMC server.

  • You can access the EMC share from the ADAudit Plus server via File Explorer or the UNC(Universal Naming Conversion) path.

Resolution

Step 1: Configure audit policies on the EMC server

To ensure that audit events are generated and available for collection, follow these steps to enable object access auditing on your EMC storage:

  1. Install the VNX CIFS Management MMC Snap-in on the ADAudit Plus server or any other domain-joined server.

  2. Open the snap-in, right-click Data Mover Management, and select the appropriate Data Mover.

  3. Navigate to Data Mover Management > Data Mover Security Settings > Audit Policy.

  4. Enable Audit Object Access for both Success and Failure events.

  5. Click OK to save the changes.

Step 2: Confirm the Presence of Audit Files

On the ADAudit Plus server:

  • Open File Explorer and go to the Network section.

  • Locate and double-click the target EMC server.

  • Navigate to the audit location configured in ADAudit Plus.

  • Check whether the EVT files exist in the specified folder.
You can also use the UNC path (e.g., \\EMCServer\AuditPath) to access the location directly.

Step 3: Update the audit path (if necessary)

If the files are not found in the configured path:

  • Manually identify the correct audit folder on the EMC server.

  • Update the audit path under the EMC configuration in ADAudit Plus to reflect the correct directory.

Step 4: Test network and share access

  • Ensure that network connectivity to the EMC server is stable by pinging it from the ADAudit Plus server.

  • Verify that there are no DNS issues, firewall blocks, or permission restrictions preventing access to the EMC share.
