Issue description
The file server cannot be added in ADAudit Plus, preventing monitoring and auditing of file activities. This issue can result from missing prerequisites, misconfigurations, or lack of necessary permissions.
Prerequisites
Ensure the following prerequisites are met:
Establish connectivity between ADAudit Plus and the file servers.
Necessary permissions are provided to the configured service account.
Possible causes
No file servers available to add: ADAudit Plus has not discovered the computer object from Active Directory.
Access denied while discovering the shares: The configured account does not have the required permissions.
The network path was not found: Shares in the file servers are not discoverable due to connectivity issues or missing permissions.
Long alphanumeric error while trying to add: The file server was added, removed, and then reattempted to be added again, causing database conflicts.
Resolution
Step 1 No file servers available to add
Log in to the ADAudit Plus web console.
Navigate to the Domain Settings page.
Click the domain drop-down and select Update domain objects.
Select Computers and click Save.
Retry adding the file server and verify if it appears.
Step 2 Access denied while discovering the shares
Confirm that the configured account in ADAudit Plus has the necessary read permissions for file shares.
Refer to the required privileges for file auditing in ADAudit Plus
Privileges required for file auditing
Step 3 The network path was not found
Verify share accessibility using the MMC console
Log in to the ADAudit Plus server with the configured service account.
Press Ctrl + R to open the Run command window.
Type mmc and hit Enter.
In the MMC console, click File > Add/Remove Snap-in (or press Ctrl + M).
Select Shared Folders and click Add >.
Enter the name of the file server and click Finish.
Check if the shared folders are listed and accessible.
Test file share accessibility
Open File Explorer on the ADAudit Plus server.
Navigate to Network and locate the target computer.
Attempt to open the shared folder.
Alternatively, use the UNC path and check access.
Ping the file server using its hostname
Open an elevated command prompt on the ADAudit Plus server.
Ping the file server using only its hostname.
If unable to ping using the hostname, add the DNS suffix.
Step 4 Handling long alphanumeric errors
Example error
[AUDComputerEventRead] Batch entry 0 UPDATE AUDComputerEventRead SET SCHEDULE_ID=0, TIME_PERIOD-30, INSTANCE_ID=0, MACHINE_TYPE_LONG-20 WHERE ( (AUDComputerEventRead.COMPUTER_ID=7)) was aborted ERROR insert or update on table "audcomputereventread" violates foreign key constraint "audcomputereventread_fk1" Detail Key (schedule_id)-(0) is not present in table "schedule".
Cause: This error occurs when a file server is deleted and re-added.
