Cause:
OpUtils can not retrieve the MAC - IP information from the scanned network.
Resolution:
Scenario 1: Router/L3 devices not added to OpUtils.
Description:
MAC-IP data from the router's ARP table entries is important to display the associated IP for a MAC.
Adding routers will help auto-discover MAC and IP addresses from the router's ARP table. Layer 3 switches, gateways, firewalls and printers can be added as routers also. The more devices added as routers, the better the MAC/IP resolution will be.
The router added to OpUtils must be in the same network as the switch. If no router in the switch's network is added, OpUtils can not retrieve the MAC-IP data from the ARP entries.
Resolution:
Add the appropriate routers to OpUtils
Go to Settings > OpUtils, and select Routers.
Click on Add Device.
In the dialogue box that opens, specify the router details such as the SNMP settings and CLI settings.
Click on Add.
Scenario 2: ARP aging
Description:
If appropriate routers have been added, and yet OpUtils does not display the IP address of a MAC, check ARP aging.
With ARP aging, the required MAC-IP details may not be available in the ARP entries of the scanned routers. This makes OpUtils unable to retrieve the MAC-IP details.
Resolution:
Enable Ping Sweep while adding switches in Switch Port Mapper.
Under Switch Port Mapper, click on Add/Edit.
Select the Add Switch option.
In the dialogue box that opens, specify the switch details.
Ensure that the Do Ping Sweep Before Scanning the Switch check box is selected.
Once Ping sweep is enabled then add the possible subnets to refresh the ARP Aging
Click on Add Switch/Save.
