Is Remcom.exe Safe?

Remcom.exe is an open-source, lightweight (10KB UPX-packed) remote shell or Telnet replacement tool. It allows admins to execute processes on remote Windows systems, copy files, process their output, and stream it back. This tool enables the execution of remote shell commands with full interactive console access, eliminating the need to install any special software for installation purposes. It can also be used as a silent replacement for the Run As command on local machines.

In ADSelfService Plus, we use Remcom.exe to establish a connection with client computers, and install the Windows login agent when attempting to push the software from within the ADSelfService Plus admin portal. This utility is included with the installation of ADSelfService Plus. The Remcom.exe file may sometimes be flagged by antivirus software as malware. The reported malware detection is a false positive and can be safely disregarded.
