How to set computer password for a computer account created under a Child OU.


Creating computer account in Active Directory is one of the requirements of configuring Pass-through Authentication. As this computer account will be used for validating credentials with NetLogon services in DC. However, few customer environments do not maintain computer account in the default Computers container in Active Directory Users and Computers. Therefore, this article will help us understand how to create a computer a computer under a custom OU and set password for the same. 


Computer accounts can be created manually however, there's no option to set password for the computer account that will be used for this process.
Hence running the script to set password is required.






In this example, The computer account "SSO" is manually created under the child OU=Laptop of child OU=PC of Parent OU=WORKGROUP. 







The attached setComputerPass.vbs script is modified to take multiple child OU with Parent to Child OU order. 

If the OU name will contain space in it, then provide OU name within "", for ex, if the OU name is Desktop Computers, 

C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop>SetComputerPass.vbs SSO /p Najew20!$ /d sdptestlab.com /ou WORKGROUP /ou PC /ou "Desktop Computers"
