How to exclude specific characters from CAPTCHA on the login screen

Objective

A CAPTCHA enhances security by preventing bot-related attacks. However, certain characters may be misidentified by users due to their similarity. To address this, ADSelfService Plus allows you to modify the CAPTCHA to exclude specific characters. This article outlines the steps to configure this setting.

Prerequisites

  • Administrative access to the ADSelfService Plus server.

  • A text editor to modify configuration files.

  • A complete backup of the original configuration files before making any changes.

Steps to follow

  1. Navigate to the language property file you wish to edit, located in C: > Program Files > ManageEngine > ADSelfService Plus > resources > adssp. For example, the language property file for US English is labeled as ApplicationResources_en_US.properties.
  2. Open the language property file using a text editor.
  3. Locate the key adssp.captcha.text_captcha_text.
  4. Remove the characters you wish to exclude from the CAPTCHA from the key value.
  5. Click the Save icon.
  6. Restart the ADSelfService Plus application for the changes to take effect.

Validation and confirmation

  • Open ADSelfService Plus. The CAPTCHA displayed on the login page should no longer include the characters you removed from the key value.
